  1. Indianajanes took a few great photos of my TB in Singapore; it's mission was to visit shipping ports all over the world!
  2. My favourite 'hometown' caching location I think is the "100 Aker Wood" series of caches - it's a really nice pocket of bushland near Warrandyte in Melbourne Victoria Australia and you can wander through the bush, which is quite rugged, but you have nice trails to walk on (until you decide to follow your GPS!) and there are a heap of good quality caches in there! Heaven!
  3. I really enjoyed caching along The Strand in Townsville, Far North Queensland, Australia! Great weather, great caches, great scenery and plenty of places to stop for gelati, beer or a feed of prawns!
  4. I have on and am logging my car wherever I drive it to a cache; it's interesting to see how many kilometres she's done!
  5. I've recently started to log a small handful of GC/TBs at caches I go to; basically one for me, one for the geobeast and one for the geotransporter...I like seeing how many miles we each get up to. I also log a few TBs of other people that I'm carrying around, only into nice caches and I do this to get them a few more interesting miles, before I drop it off where i'm aiming for - some I'm carrying have specific goals which I can help with, but maybe not straight away, so they come on trips in the geo-bag until I can drop them off! As I read in someones log recently; "everyone plays the game their own way"
  6. When I turn up to a cache and see what I suspect are fellow geo-cachers, I generally bellow out a friendly "A HA! I know what YOU are doing!" Then enjoy the look of shifty guilt, hiding of GPS behind back and then sheepish smile! I've been busted like that myself by a mum and a bunch of kids and they all roared out "WE KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!" Ha ha!
  7. scream not coping without my smiley faces!
  8. This would be my first action too!
  9. My Avatar is a picture of our Geo-Beast! I'll probably change the picture one day when inspiration hits!
  10. I mostly love shifting on Trackable items and rarely take any swag, because majority of caches I've found have either junk in them, or stuff I just am not interested in. I have swapped for a few useful things however, such as a magnifying glass (need it these days to read the small numbers on geocoins! ). I carry a container filled with swag, which ranges from magnets, carabiners, stickers, decorative pins, beads, etc...no junk and no used rubbish.
  11. FREE things yes (merchandise, free beer no strings, etc) but the 2 for 1 deal and discounts is just solicitation IMHO. As soon as you require someone to buy something in order to get half price or whatever, then that is not appropriate for a cache.
  12. 21 just yesterday; I did a drive from Sydney to Canberra and back in the one day; cached all the way there and alllllll the way back! I found that I just couldn't stop; for the last 4 or so hours I was promising myself "just one more" well, the next cache was just so interesting that I just had to do ONE MORE....
  13. Great idea; I've noticed that the majority of caches I've visited have absolute garbage in them; not sure why people think it is ok to leave broken, stained and used old rubbish in a cache.
  14. ♠ hee hee I have visions of you sneaking up to a deer and bonking it on the head with your Garmin....
  15. I have just picked up a geopatch too: my plan is to attach it to my geo-caching backpack! I've seen other people with those patches on their hats, but I only randomly wear my hat, so that's not ideal for me. The geo-caching bag will go everywhere with me, including overseas and on interstate trips (I've just picked up one of those daypack camelbak bags, which is a useful size and I can hydrate on the more strenuous caching trips!)
  16. I became a Premium Member after a very short while in the geocaching game, as I wanted to see what extra that offered me, including the chance to nab Premium Caches, which the non Premium members can't see. I also joined to access the ability to use Pocket Queries, especially along routes, as I am very keen to do paperless caching and mobile phone reception is miserable Down Under. I also like to cache when travelling and this feature is gold! So for a very low $30 outlay (given the AUD is on parity with the USD, no big deal!) I reckon it's well worth it! I enjoy the little conveniences that the membership gives me and for such a low yearly outlay, I'm happy. I'm paying for a convenience to to enhance the ability to do paperless geocaching; I suppose I could toss it onto the Dishlickers or the One Armed Bandits, but instead I choose Premium Membership.... As for the whole argument about is it or is not a game As a newbie who is heading to the 250 find mark and with several (well maintained thankyou!) caches under my belt and a heap of trackables (love em!) I am learning that everyone plays the GAME differently and quite frankly I like it. I'm not one to be 'told what to do' so being able to enjoy playing this game how I like it and learning to relax and accept how others play the game makes this a fine pursuit! As they say about our country's flag: "If you don't love it; leave", so too can one say that about Geocaching!
  17. This one I released only today; it's an Aussie Thong keyring, with the TB tag (but a special edition Australian flag tag) attached. It is called Jenny's Aussie Thong Traveller.
  18. This is another TB which is part of a "race". I collected a handful of carved wooden Aussie Animals (carved out of River Red Gum)drilled a hole in them and attached a tag to them. This one is a Koala and the other animals in this collection are: Penguin, Echidna, Crocodile, Playtpus, Wombat and Kookaburra.
  19. This Travel Bug is one of my first, it is called the M.V. "Last Resort" TB, which is a Monkey's Fist decorative knot, tied by the Captain of the real M.V. "Last Resort" (who also happens to be my Father!) a large River Boat on the Murray River in Australia.
  20. oh! How easy was THAT?! I was about to screech for help on how to get it from the computer to my iPhone, when I read the simple instruction above and VOILA! There it is! I'm off to test it tomorrow!
  21. I often cache alone, most often cache with my Geo-Beast (who is a very protective Staffordshire Bull-Terrier crossed with an Australian Red Cattle Dog) and have no qualms about doing so. I am extremely comfortable in the wilderness and I know what my capabilities are to either defend myself or fix myself up if there is an accident! I have that line in the sand when it comes to taking a risk and won't step over that; the line in the sand is drawn by my skills, experience and confidence on the day. There is far greater danger from human factors in an urban setting than there is in the bush of course. If you are in true wilderness, carry the essentials for life, such as water, knowledge how to seek shelter, communications and something to fix up any injuries. I in fact love caching by myself, as I get to spend as much time as I like hunting around for a cache and I can find as many as I like, without anyone else whining!
  22. Tari the Geo-Beast comes along on most of my caching trips; it's extra walks for her and she enjoys helping to sniff out things!
  23. Ok, I use a smartphone to do my geocaching (usually that in one hand any my faithful old Garmin in the other!)and I log it all on my smartphone now, as that way I don't forget the salient points of each cache I have visited. I like to TFTC and TNLN (if that be the case, which it mostly is) of course, but I also like to say a few sentences about the location I have been drawn to...I like to write something that shows others what I thought was cool about the area (the exploration side is what I love...ok and the shiny trackables I might find too!) and also to tell the person who laid the cache that I thought it was a brilliant hide (some people are very ingenious with their camo!). My smartphone can tend to do some funny predictive text "fails" so when i get to a PC I then check my logs for the day and make corrections or additions. I do take the time to do this, however I can see that if I was on a geocaching "bender" and trying to get 10 bilion caches knocked over in half a day, I would probably abbreviate my logging significantly! There are people out there who I see love the Geocaching Benders and try and see how many they can knock over in a day and their logs are necessarily short...I have no problem with that, as that is how THEY play the game! Me, I like to do a handful on a day, spend the time checking out the area I have been drawn to (there are some awesome places I've been to and would not without geocaching!) and during that checking out I do like to log my find with some detail; for my own memory as much as for the people who set the cache and also the people who are about to find it too!
  24. ha ha love it! Am imagining all these geocaching mincing around with their knees tightly held together due to those bunched panties...
  25. Thanks everyone for the responses; I really appreciate it! Being only new (and addicted...) to the Geocaching game, I really want to maximise my caching whilst overseas! I'll look into the suggestions people have made and I'll have to learn a bit more about Pocket Queries by the sound of it!
