  1. 4 traditionalcaches and an earth cache, and a different Christmas http://tinyurl.com/ygaxtgk
  2. I was there at his first and his 1000th! Well done old chum Look out Southern West Yorkshire you next on his hit list!
  3. Be prepared for the long haul as Jamie demonstrated on this one
  4. Just wondering if I've got it right....... apparently not... oh there it is
  5. The caches put out by the 'sykesfamily' in Yorkshire tend to be as remote as they can make them. GCY9FD, GC10JCC are examples, no paths with in a mile or so, heather and bog all around. They maybe don't match the dramatic scenary of the Highlands and Islands but they are rarely visited places. I managed 3 and a DNF yesterday with 8 hours walking.
  6. I use the Geko 301 and my mate has the 60csx. The time the csx saves on settling on the co-ords is 10-30 mins in tricky rx conditions! So imho upgrading will speed you up a lot. But I have not upgraded my GPSr as I have MM on my PDA and a connecting lead so can transfer co-ords direct to the Geko, and I am a tight fisted Northerner....
  7. I am a Simply Paulite though it was sometime after. I first showed ‘Fat Bloke’ and ‘The Last Hussar’s’ the joy of finding a box (plastic) on a stag weekend in York. It was not too easy to convince them that we should not drink all day but have a break to hunt Tupperware! They accompanied me to a cache up by the Navesmire and stood a suitable ‘we’re not with him’ distance away as I rummaged under a bush (Elder) and retrieved the cache. (Plenty of room for innuendo with stag weekends and caching!) They have both taken the game up since with varying degrees of enthusiasm.
  8. Well done Ray !!! Why would anyone write 'my dog is NOT monorchid!' in a cache log?
  9. What I have done is to change the parameter to 'found/updated in the last 7 days' and then extended the date range. It has lots of possible flaws, but I have not had any PQ go over 500 in the last 3 (Quiet?) months but have attempted disabled caches and regard this as unfortunate rather than life threatening. I'm on 14 PQ's for the date range.
  10. I was looking to buy a replacement satnav, when I found totalpda doing a NAVMAN SPIN 100 (Blue Tooth GPSr and software on a SIM) for £25 delivered. As I have a PDA hooked up to my Garmin to follow MM around, I thought I might as well try it only £25 to lose, but it works a treat, well it does what it says it will anyway. Just thought I'd share someone might have a use for the blue tooth gps even if they dont want the navigation part.
  11. If you have lashed out on MM, Gsak, PDA and down loaded the all UK caches from the PQ's and got Lordelfs icons working it's a doddle, well when you can do arc and poly filters as well.... But if you haven't got that already then your not likely to have it by the weekend! One tip I used to use was to look who had been to caches in the area, and find the local or national big numbers cachers who have passed by. They are likely to have logged in order and you will get a ready made hit list from their profile
  12. I send to my GPS from the MM overlay on my PDA and fell foul of the 7 digit code on Saturday whilst doing and new series. %drop2 has cured the problem Thankyou
  13. I agree with sentiments expressed, that so long as you are not harming others, minor rule transgressions are nothing to get excited about, and are unlikely to be the first steps to lawlessness and anarchy, especially as they are there for all to see. But what about those who do not log DNF’s? Isn't this an attack on the very life blood of our pastime, the cache setters! It would be easy to construe this as refusal to acknowledge the effort and ingenuity of a cache setter that has defeated them (a popular motive in cache setting), or a disregard for the game and others cacher’s in general, if the cache is missing. A crime with victims is surely, unless of course you know different…
  14. Big Congrats to FAT BLOKE 300 Well done mate
  15. I attempted a few this summer. In Barca Gardens series is OK small city parks I found GCM6WO, GCM5Q6 and DNF'd GCQ64R a nice park at the back of the New Camp, and GCQ3GE. Failure factors were, poor GPS signal, caches placed in bushes (scared of biting things!), alone (rubish finder, but persistent..) and well armed police strolling about! Any would be an ok evening stroll. However, they look to have impressive puzzel caches but I did not have time to prepare so did the 'easy' ones. You will need to find a 'Catalan' language translater to research the cache write ups! The caches in the countryside are protected by very thorny scrub!
  16. How much did you pay and what kind of PDA do you use it in? About £65 (?) (not sure cos not at home, hence want all caches and no messing about!) My PDA is an ipaq hx2790
  17. You are right I want to down load everything as to be selective I would need to learn how to use GSAK properly!! I spent the money going paperless to avoid computers...I guess I will have to force myself to put the time into learning the technology, to have more/better caching in the future, thanks for the input
  18. Like you I read through the forum and wondered what to do. Eventually after reading a rant thread elsewhere, about memory man (?) on ebay I decided to by from a UK supplier. I got a Transcend CompactFlash 4GB 120x from orcalogic. It turned up and works so far. I'm using it to load MM files.
  19. When I export my cache overlay to my ipaq 2790 it work fine for a while and then complains about a file sharing violation on the overlay file. Stopping and restarting the program causes the message 'an attempt was made to access an unnamed file past its end' to come up. MM then works but the overlay does not display.......any ideas (the overlay is for all uk caches but thats because I get about a bit)
  20. I was going to post the same question. I have just had my first trip out with ipaq2790/MM/cachemate and it went ok. But this function would be nice..
  21. Mistaken at the Shrops 2006 event for Kiwi Gary!! (in the dark and from a distance!!) But no he is.. The Last Hussar's and he has just racked up 100 lucky finds Well done mate
  22. Thanks Jaz I spent the better part of yesterday afternoon 'trial and erroring' my way to a similar result. I should have known the answer be on that side of the moors somewhere!!
