  1. Hi Everyone, I just purchased the eXplorist GC for my wife for Christmas from REI. We had a great time finding our first caches on Christmas day, but just tried to power it up and it would display the hourglass for about 5 seconds, then the screen would go blank. I figured we just left the batteries on and replaced them. The next power up I had a white screen with a menu at the top with "Factory, RUN, Other, and Help" menu items. None of them seem selectable, and the unit won't power off. I called Magellan support and the are sending a unit, but I'm not impressed. So much for spending some vacation time searching out caches. I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences. I'm not convinced I've made a good buy, and wondering if I should just ditch this and spend my money on something else. It is a brick after 1 use (2 caches, which I didn't even get to upload). There are a series of other issues with the support I received from Magellan. 1. They wanted me to return the unit before they shipped a new one - hello, your product is a brick. 2. They wanted me to pay shipping to return the unit - again, your product issue, so why would I pay to return it? They did advance ship, but I had to secure with a credit card. That is annoying, but understandable as they could get ripped off. If I don't return the unit in 30 days I get charged - fair enough. The second issue they did ship an RMA label after I pointed out that it was their issue and not mine, but still. Seems like trying to nickel and dime the customer. As it stands, I'm probably going to download the iPhone version of Geocaching for $9.99. It is not the ideal situation for our geocaching.
