  1. I've got an event planned for Easter weekend that should be a big hit. GC1KX9Y However I don't want to step on toes or make some mad by posting it on the Alabama/Georgia/Mississippi sites. I am hoping word of mouth and a new website (which is in the works) will get the ball rolling a bit. I've not had any negative reaction from anyone I have talked to about it. Only time will tell I suppose.... Its not stepping on toes to invite other groups to your group. Like others have posted, many people belong to more then one group. I'm sure there are members of the AGA living on the Gulf Coast who would love to join your group. Your more then welcome to post an invite at DixieCachers.com. We get invites to groups and events all the time.
  2. I am always worried about bees or wasps in fallen trees. You are so lucky you only got stung 3 times. I doubt I would have been brave enough to put the cache back. Once I started running I wouldn't have stopped until I was back in the car.
  3. Congratulations! 500 a year for someone who's spouse doesn't cache is pretty good. I'm averaging 250 myself.
  4. I thought the first log on this one was funny. It was found 5 days before it was published.A Tree in the Bay
  5. When I first started caching we went through batteries like crazy. Many times we'd go on spur of the moment cache runs. Once I did find batteries just as mine where getting low. Saved me from a trip to the store. Another time I bought batteries at a convieniece store on my way to an event. After I got there I went to put them in my camera and they looked like the ones in the picture. They didn't last any better in the store then they did in the cache. My kids also like to trade for batteries for their cd players. I like the suggestions of tapeing them together, placing in a baggie, and marking the date on them. Thats a good swag item to me.
  6. Yes I would feel guilty if someone died hunting one of my caches. And I would archive it. I would archive it not because I feel responsible but out of respect for the person who died. I would also feel guilty if they fell and broke their leg or hit their head and caused brain damage. I wouldn't archive the cache under that circumstance though. I would probably up the terrain rating and put warnings in bold letters in the cache page letting others know what happend so they can avoid the same mistake. I hide caches so others can have fun finding them. If people get serious injuries looking for it then obviously the fun just ended.
  7. I'm all for not discouraging the new cacher and I like how nice you were with your offer of help, but whether he moves the cache to another area in the park or not the current one still needs to be archived. I think giving him a week to archive it himself is just giving the area one more week of damage.
  8. I'm watching 2 upcoming events. The "Class Six" Cache GCMTZT because I grew up on that A.F.B. and hope to revisit it on my next trip to Cali. I'm also thinking about sending out a 2005 Alabama geocoin with the mission being to reach this cache before I get there. The Treasure (LimeKiln Ruins) GCX4Y7 Because it looks like its near my brothers house and its a place I've never noticed before. So its on my list of caches to get next time I visit. Big Fish GCXM3Q because it looks like its going to have some really entertaining logs. Did You Hear That? GCKWN8 because its a spooky nightime cemetary cache and I think a group of cachers are trying to get together to find it. I want to know when they're going so I can be there and scare the cr@p outta them. Duh Big Boy Travel Bug because it was the first TB I ever found. I can still see the look on my non caching co workers face when I came walking out of the woods carrying a bowling ball. Bobble Buc Travel Bug because I took him to an event and the person who got him hasn't logged him yet. I'm hopeing she'll remember soon.
  9. The thing with funny stories is that they're only funny to the people that were there.
  10. And they're ruining it for us purists.
  11. I post comments but I am not comfortable posting "noob" questions. To many times it seems "some" (not all) of the oldtimers criticizes the new people. I see replies like "Markwell" or "Thats already been covered." And those are the nice replies. I'm sure I would have recieved friendly info on the geocoin forum but I am more comfortable asking the people I know. I also prefer to not take the chance of being ridiculed. There are many friendly people here but there also a handful that make me uncomfortable and make me grimace when I see some of their "helpful" replies. It is good to see that others will call them on it but I prefer to not get slammed to start with. I did not want to get into this debate. I only posted that i was the one to make the comment that Rambler posted to keep any uglieness that would result from it here and not bring it to the Alacache website.
  12. I bought Banana Boat Soothing Aloe After Sun Gel. Green goo is our name for it. It works great on everything. Burns and bug bites. It has also speeded the healing of the bug bites I have. I hate that for you. Last year while out looking for a cache I was in shorts in a briar patch. All of a sudden my left leg felt like it was on fire. I thought it was the briar scratches. I looked down and my whole leg was covered in ants. Not a good feeling at all. You have my sympathy and I hope you get some relief soon. If you need a home remedy because you can't get to the store try making a paste with baking soda.
  13. "I'm looking for a Big Bear coin. The only coins I have are a few of the AGA coins and a couple of Emerald Dragon coins. How do I know what's a fair trade? And any tips on how to find someone who has a Big Bear coin to trade? I don't really want to post on GC because they're not the friendliest bunch over there and I don't want to get laughed off the forums or run off with pitchforks. Are there any other sites that are for coin trading?" This is my original post that I posted yesterday on the temporary Alacache website last night. I will not defend my statement nor will I defend Rambler. I called him last night to tell him I was not comfortable with him quoteing me over here. He assured me that I would not be over run with hate email which was my only concern.
  14. These are great. I especially love the guy who thinks the cache is a bomb but he'll be safe from the explosion if he pokes it with a stick first. And his cousins response. Priceless.
  15. There have only been a couple of caches I've hunted that I thought were lame. They were hidden in prickly bushes. I don't understand why someone would think it's funny or entertaining for people to get scratched and pricked. The one and only cache that ticked me off I ended up calling off the hunt when both me and my 10yr old daughter were bleeding. I drove past the cache site just yesterday and not a soul around and thought for half a second about looking for it again. But decieded it was to lame.
  16. TheShadowlands.net has a regional section that you can find haunted places in your area.
  17. Yes. The event host went to the trouble of "hiding" caches for me to "find" and I "signed" the log book. Difinately I log it. Not only as a reminder of my memories but as a thank you to the host who went to the trouble of placing them, even temporarily. The only caches I've signed and logged that were just sitting on a table were the ones being presented to other cachers in honor of their 1000 find. I signed it and logged it as a tribute to them. Kind of like the cachers in TX trying to honor our soldiers in Iraq. I would never log a permanent cache that someone brought to me though. I also log pocket caches. My son has one and he loves when people ask if they can sign his cache at events. He also gets a big kick out of reading the online logs. Nobodys finds are hidden. If you question how great of a cacher someone is just check their finds. If you're not impressed afterwards try to pick up the pieces of your shattered life and move on. Yes. It is their record set their way. Anyone who wants to play their way and try to beat them can. But I think this is one record that will never be broke. Yes. If you want to set a record for most cache finds in 24 hours wearing pink flip flops and tied to three other people you should go for it. And if someone wants to beat your record they have to wear pink flip flops tied to three other people. But the only record I would ever take seriously is the Guiness WWs. I know they would set "rules" not "guidelines" that would be monitored. Other then that I just want to hear everyones experience and be impressed with how many finds they made.
  18. When I can tell its done on purpose, like your post, I ignore it. But the usual typos, spelling errors, and punctuation mistakes, bother me not at all.
  19. This is probably the most logical, level headed response I've seen so far. It sums up how I feel about the situation. I can't let one really stupid, bad desicion on Ramblers part undermine all the good he has done for the game. Especially since he's already taken responsibility, apologised and offered to make amends to the cache owners. It is also a shame that it undermines all the hard work Geopirate and co did. I'm really impressed by your finds. Especially since I cached with Ramber for 12 hours, found 30, and was half dead by the time we were done.
  20. I know nothing. It's killing me how much I need that website.
  21. Thanks for the update Pudman! Congratulations Rick and Wesley! That is awesome! WTG Twister!
  22. I totally agree. I know when it was down like this the last time someone started a temp forum. I bookmarked it but its not there anymore.
  23. Does anyone know the status? Is Jeff working on it? Does Jeff even know it's down? I'm starting to develop a tick right below my left eye. I need Alacache back! How are ya'll doin'?
