  1. TPTB posted on a thread in the Geocaching Topics forum that they weren't being sent out until the end of this past week at the earliest. The earliest we should expect to see them is this coming week, depending on how long it takes to receive mail from Seattle where you live.

    Fyi:

Maybe note that discovered it can be used anytime that you are not moving a TB, not necessarily one seen at an event. For example, TBs found in regular caches that you can't help on its mission or don't take for whatever other reason. Great job, Eartha!
  3. And... you know it's there because you have actually physically checked its' presence in the cache or just because it has not been logged out? I haven't checked it. I am going to assume it's there, though. It's at the final stage of a multi that has been a difficult find.
  4. I placed one in a cache 2 miles from my house over a month ago and it hasn't been picked up yet.
  5. I almost always dip bugs that I have in my posession but am not dropping yet for whatever reason (caches too small, plan to put in a specific cache or move in a specific direction, etc.) I'm behind in posting pictures right now, but I try to take and post at least one picture of each bug regardless of whether it's suggested on the bug sheet. I have gotten several notes from happy owners thanking me for the efforts I've taken with their bug and that they've enjoyed seeing me move it around.
  6. LOL, the one that's giving me the most trouble says that that the actual coordinates are a green rectangle minus some number and a purple rectangle minus another number. Huh?
  7. It's City Select that will let you do autorouting. Don't bother with the Metroguide.
  8. Let's not forget that there is a contest. Most people probably don't participate, but it's a lot of fun for those of us who do.
  9. I do all the puzzle solving for our team and so far I haven't asked for any help even from the cache owners (therefore I have a lot still to do, some make my brain hurt really hard.) But when I go searching with my 8 and 10 year old with the updated coordinates, should they not log finds because they didn't contribute to the puzzle solving? Lazy kids, with their stupid 2nd and 4th grade educations!
  10. lol, I experienced the same surge in productivity!
  11. From the setup page, choose Units Setup. Make sure Position Format is ddd mm.mmm (degrees with decimal minutes) to match up with GE and geocaching.com. Currently you have it set to dd.ddd, which is decimal degrees. They're both the same number when one is converted. But I'm assuming no one wants to do that much math, so using the more common degrees with decimal minutes will suit your needs best. Edited to add, while you're still on the Units Setup page, make sure Map Datum is set to WGS 84. Good luck!
  12. Just a few minutes ago my hubby teasingly suggested that I must have a geocaching boyfriend because of the time I spend on the forums. I had to explain to him that I hadn't been on since yesterday afternoon and that they've been down all day today so I just had to catch up! He's been on a couple cache hunts (our running joke is how his 2 finds are both FTFs.) He'll go with us when the weather cools down. He enjoys it, but can't handle the heat or the bees this time of year. He's pretty understanding.
  13. Thanks Brian and Jeremy for the info -- it helps cut down on the jeep-angst!
  14. I'll get us started as the mail just arrived. NO JEEP today.
  15. We just gave our boys, 8 and 10, their own accounts and now we have the task ahead of us of getting them caught up on their logs for the last year, some on archived caches. I think most of the cache owners will recognize them by their usernames, but to avoid confusion I just posted to our local group a heads up message to be prepared for an onslaught of backlogs from them.
  16. We were on a hiatus from caching for several months while dealing with a family medical situation. When we started back up it seemed that a lot of uninspired caches had popped up and several have left me wondering what the point was. One cache we did recently had a name that ironically summed up that wonderment. It seemed a waste of a good wooded area that could have had a really cool hide in an area that needed it. Instead it was a pill bottle stuck in the first tree with the only challenge being getting through the thick neck high thorns surrounding it. Being polite, the gist of my log was along the lines of, "left the kids behind while I went through the thorns to get the cache, which was an easy find." That's honest, but not as completely honest. In general I feel it isn't my place to criticize, especially as we don't have any hides (but will soon!). Actually, now that I think about it, I'm going to edit my log for that cache. I did like the puzzle part, which was very easy, but enjoyable. I feel I should go back and accentuate the positive if you know what I mean.
  17. The cache was not an ammo can so I don't know what the January 12 find was talking about. What's worse, he encourages the previous finder, a newbie with only 2 finds under his belt at the time, to change their log to find on a cache he didn't own! [side note -- I can only imagine him coaching his dog to fetch the mysterious ammo can from the ice! Laughing so hard over that one!] The above log was edited and changed from a note to a find in April. So he did take the other cacher's advice although a few months later and long after it had been archived. Previously it read as follows: The owner acknowledged they didn't find it, but let the logs stand:
  18. I'm afraid to ask... how does one "sign the area" when they don't find the cache? If there's snow on the ground maybe....
