  1. Try adding in <img src="http://snoogans.com/image.gif alt="Snoogans">. Alternate text helps when someone can't view images, and they make your HTML standards-compliant.

Oh, and the reason it wasn't working originally, when it worked perfectly in the forums? The forums don't use HTML, the standard used by webpages.

EDIT: Now I'm pushing it, but why not make the images transparent for 100 extra points?

  2. Actually, the answer was, "Here's this new function in Pocket Queries that will include the archived caches that you've found".

That's not exactly a NO!

That's only for one special Pocket Query, and doesn't help me identifying old ones from my offline database. Right now I have to go through any caches that are likely archived and manually go to the webpage and check, then download the individual .GPX. Apparently that's the price the servers have to pay since I'm too stupid to know what "archived" means and would go run out looking for archived caches on private property. :anibad:
  3. I never put the pen in the baggie. Solves the problem right away.

I do too, and I really don't understand how someone can be stupid enough to put it in the plastic log bag. On one of my caches, I wrote a note around the pencil saying "DO NOT LEAVE IN LOG BAG." Guess where it was on my next maintenence trip?

OK, let's assume you can't read the note. You also don't notice that the pencil is white with black letters on it instead of wood. We can also assume you don't realize that the pencil doesn't feel like a normal pencil at all, being covered in paper. Furthermore, you didn't notice the fact the the log bag already had some punctures in it. After all that, how can you not realize that a pencil is SHARP and POINTY? Duh!

I'm trying this method on my newest cache. If I find it in the bag again, my perception of geocacher's IQ's will be in the single digits.

  4. They are showing the Google Map feature is in BETA..... which usually means.... do not distrub
Google Maps should have nothing to do with cookies, which handle the login information. I have also seen this problem recently on every cache page I've gotten to by following a link from the forums. Starting to get annoying.
  5. Please remind me what the benefits of this change are so I can at least be happy about it.....?

Three small textareas were combined into one and the number of characters allowed is now more than the total of the three.

Sorry dude. I understood that about as much as I can understand Charlie Brown's teacher when she speaks.

Another thread stated that the maximum allowed content was expanded for profile pages.... Is that true? If that's part of the problem, then I CAN be happy about having to do that work all over again.

Yes, it's true - that's what he just said.

Before the change, there were three fields. I'm not sure what exactly they were since my profile is empty, but probably Latest News, Hobbies, Biography. There was a seperate limit on the number of characters (letters or html codes) for each field. Now there is only only field (Profile?), that has a character limit too, but it is higher than the limits of the three old fields combined.

  6. Seems to me they should all be together on the site that can best support the activity. Ultimately, which site will be better positioned to handle what is needed for benchmarking?
Right now, the geocaching.com site is better set up for the limited benchmarks in its database. Numerous additions would have to be made to the benchmark category at Waymarking.com before the gc.com benchmarks could move there. For example, more logs than just "Visited" and "Note."
  7. Too much trouble for the suggested purpose. Although it would be cool to be able to vote on photos, it would be for other purposes than the main page.

For the main page photos, how about a permanent forum thread where members can suggest photos instead of creating a new topic or email each time?

  8. I think I've suggested this before, but I'd also like to see "smarter" input boxes for fields such as coordinates.

Right now there are two different methods with two separate problems

(PQ's) a pull-down menu for each different coordinate format (that has to reload the page)

(Seek) two separate entry fields for DD MM.MMM and DD.DDDDD (doesn't support DD MM SS

Programs such as USAPhotoMaps have a simple solution. They have a field each for Degrees, Minutes, and Seconds and can support all three formats. If using decimal degrees, you just enter the decimal degrees into the degree box and leave the others blank. If using DMS, you use all of the boxes.

I'm not sure which format your server uses, but my guess would be decimal degrees. It's easy to use these boxes to convert to decimal degrees.

    Degrees + (Minutes/60) + (Seconds/6000)

The coolest-looking solution would be to have one input box and parse any combination ala Google Earth, but this way is simple and effective.

  9. Ideally, there should be one text box that's smart enough for users to enter in either GCXXXX, XXXX, XXXXX or even GCGCXXXX. It can't be that difficult, except for a handful of codes like GCGC.

(Now I'm pushing it, but it could even be able to distinguish TB and JP and go to the resulting page)

  10. It also drains batteries faster when trying to lock on.

If I'm in an open area where it can pick up the special satellite or am placing a cache and need the most accurate coordinates, I turn it on. If not, I keep it off.

  11. It's hardly ruined: it just means that people have to click on one extra link. You have more freedom on an external page too.

I'm sorry alexrudd, I don't understand. How can I still track the people who hit my profile page without my javascript running?

If there's a way, I would love to do it! I just don't know enough about programming to make it happen... If it can be done, please help!

The simple way is just have a link in your GC.com profile page to your own page. Then you can put it whatever you want, and your stats will be more accurate too: only people that actively wish to see your profile will click the link.
  12. The risk of someone finding my caches and calling them bombs is zero. I paint them for the camouflage, not because some idiot is going to get freaked out by military markings. I like it when cachers do the same, but I have no problem with unpainted ammo boxes.

Find me one ammo box, Lock'n Lock, or Tupperware bomb. Just one.
