  1. never mind, figured it out, for some reason it was duplicating GPX files on the SD card and in the internal memory, and only reading the older file.
  2. This particular GPS was just factory reset, I got it for my kids to use, but honestly regret it, it's much harder to use than my 65s. I deleted all the filters, not that I could actually see how to enable/disable the filters.
  3. also even if i download the individual GPX file for that cache it doesn't show up on the garmin... Very confused, I've never had this issue in 20 years of GPS use.
  4. this cache, https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC9VZA2_im-in-a-tree-hihihi and a couple of other new local caches are not showing in my pocket query when i add the GPX file to my Garmin Etrex touch 25. They show on the pocket query preview map, but not on my GPS. is there something stopping new caches showing on pocket queries? Thank you
  5. If I buy a $30 gift card to be emailed to me, can I print that gift card off and give it to someone to use to sign up for a premium membership? I can see there is a way to gift a premium membership direct to someone's account, but I don't know their email or if they have an account. It's for my kid's kindergarten teacher So I'd just like to give them the code to use themselves. I don't want to wait for the physical membership gift card, nor pay for the $14 for shipping to Canada for it. If I get the e gift card that should work right? Thank you
  6. the smartphone connection is actually what puts me off the 66sr. I don't use a smartphone. so that's just a feature I wouldn't use. The 65 is almost $300 less than the 66sr here in Canada.
  7. ah yes, I just discovered the 65 is technically newer than the 66. Maybe I need one and keep the etrex for the kids.
  8. ah, yes the current activity wasn't on the list. It's strange it gives you the option to end the activity from the swipe up menu, but it just doesn't work. Why put it there??? I'll try classic mode too, I guess that will be more like my old GPSMAP 60c that I used for years. I'm still not convinced I like the etrex over the 6X series, I might look at a 64 or 66 instead. But the size is nice for my 4 year old to use. She had great fun finding her first caches this morning and gives a purpose to our daily walks. Thanks for the help!
  9. activity mode, with the separate profiles for hike, bike, geocache etc.
  10. Thank you, you're right, it was my lack of knowledge, not the device. But which is the current activity page? yes I was using the little pop up from the bottom, but every page I find it gives me the option to clear data but doesn't actually work. Thank you!
  11. I just got a new etrex touch 25 today to start geocaching again after years away. My kids are excited to start! I updated the firmware, and it's acting very strange. It constantly forgets the units settings, I change it to KM/H and it randomly goes back to MPH, I turn off the beeps, the beeps come back on. Also, when it auto starts an activity, such as hike, if i hit stop and then hit delete the data, nothing happens, and I cannot stop the activity. It just keeps the timer running. Have I got a bad unit, or is this common for these? Thank you
  12. i have a palm zire 31 which i use for paperless caching along with a Garmin gpsmap 60c. now i cannot connect these two units, eg to send waypoints form the palm to the GPS. i used to be able to do this with my old palm m500 using the serial connection. but the m500 died and was too slow anyway. is there any newer Palms that are able to be connected to a Garmin GPS, so i can send waypoints form cachemate to the GPS and send the location from the gps to cachemate etc? thanks
  13. why not just get a good map case and fold the map to the area you are walking. if you have a bit of thought how you fold it its very rare you will walk far enough to need to unfold it more, especially if you use a two sided map case.. then use the gps as a lazy mans navigation tool in co operation with the maps. i personally dont think you can beat os 1:25k maps, and its the thing i will miss most when i leave the uk to live in canada in the next few weeks. Because, quite simply, I like the technology. I recently did this cache up one of the highest peaks in its area without a proper map – I gave my paper map away to some people who were so lost it was unbelievable – and I managed great. I reasoned that I had two electronic map resources and plenty of batteries. Using a map is good fun but using a little map with a screen showing you in seconds exactly where you are at any given moment is brill: I like cooking properly but sometimes a microwave oven is a must! sorry, i didnt mean to quote you, i meant to quote the OP from the post above yours. yes electronic maps are nice, but for what the OP was saying i cant see any reason not to jsut use paper ones.

  15. as another copper, allbeit one who has just left the UK police and i am moving to the canadian police, ill add my 2p worth. if someone hands in any sort of drugs they just found in the street or whatever, they are not tested. they are just destroyed. why waste money testing them if we dont know who's they are. to be honest if i found some drugs, if it was that serious i wouldnt even touch it, id phone the police and let them collect it in situ, lets face it, if you got stopped on the way to handing it in to the station who will believe you "i'm handing it in, honest officer" oh if i had a pound everytime i heard that. twice in one week from one local druggy!! if its not that serious, just flush it away. i know thats not to the letter of the law, but lets be real.
  16. I had the exact same problem. Nobody could help me here so I entered my "Home" coordinates again after converting them to a different fomat. I'm not at my Mac right now (I'm at work) so I can't tell you which format I used. Hopefully I will be able to post when I get home to let you know. if you use the bottom one in the converter, 51.38717 format its more acurate than the standard geocaching format.
  17. There's the tiniest bit of vibration, but nothing at all like the Garmin. I was surprised at how big/substantial the RAM mount is when it came (compared to the Garmin), but it doesn't seem too big now that I've had it awhile. Anything too much smaller would cause the 60CSx's antenna to interfere with the windshield. The suction cup works great - in fact I used it to pull out a door-ding somebody left me a parking lot the other day -RenHoek Thank you very much kind sir. That's exactly the info I was looking for. ive got the ram mount too. cant fault it. you could use it to climb glass buildings its that strong!
  18. already have, but thought id try here to as people may have travelled and would know our os maps.
  19. Is this of any use? http://maps.nrcan.gc.ca/distribution_e.php yeh looks to have some good info, not quite up to OS standards but look ok, thanks for that. any others available? funny that one of the few things i will miss about the UK is the good OS Maps.
  20. is there an equivilant map for canada to the UK ordnance survey maps? like these http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk a 1:25,000 scale is what i use here, but as im moving to canada next month to near calgary and plan on hiking in the mountains nearby, id like some paper maps. is there such a thing in canada? where do i find them? thanks.

  22. i used to be able to connect my garmin gpsmap 60c to my palm M500 using a data cable so i could send waypoints form the palm to the GPSr and send location data from the GPS to the palm for cachemate etc. it was similar to this. is there a way to connect the gps to the newer palms such as a E2 or zire 31? also my friend says he saw a bluetooth dongle that plugs in the back of the garmin to enable connection. im not sure this exists but he is sure it does, has anyone seen one? thanks
  23. on my old palm i had a converter that converted lat lon to OS grid figures and vice versa. im sure it was part of the Calc menu for cachemate. what is this called and where can i get it for my new palm? thanks Scott
  24. Not all apps work like this. Its up to the devolper. I have some that remain open and some that close... hmm, never knew that, every one on my mac stays open but hidden. you live and learn. Maccaching and google earth act this way. You probably just never noticed... no i just dont have either of them installed.
