  1. the map situation seems pathetic. I am contemplating buying a gps of my own, having been using a gps60 (non-mapping) loaned to me by work so far. I don't care about sat nav for my car, but I can see no point in lashing out for something like the gpsmap 60cs unless it can use topographical maps such as ordnance survey. The only suggestions so far are that I buy a palm pilot with gps - fine so long as I don't drop it or get it wet - or download some amateur software which will require me to edit the computer's registry. Why on earth can Garmin and ordnance survey not get their act together and produce a UK-usable portable gps device which is rugged and gives us the maps we hikers are used to? I can see no reason to fork out for anything more sophisticated than a Venture until this is done. David
  2. Sputnik, I think you may have found the answer. Watch this space...
  3. If the waypoints transfer normally, the process is not visible in easygps, so there's no difference when it doesn't work. Using GSAK (which I only downloaded after this problem arose) there is no error message either, and the graphics look convincing when I press "send". I do have the trips and waypoints disk, but my pc won't read it for some reason. Its absence has never been a problem before, but if there is a way of downloading its contents from Garmin I would like to know about it just in case...
  4. the cable was connected well enough to upgrade the firmware.... I thought it might have reached its capacity for waypoints, so deleted them all. No improvement. We're going to try downloading from another computer, see if that's the problem.
  5. My GPS60, which was working fine three days ago, has suddenly stopped accepting waypoint data. I've tried reinstalling the firmware, updating the USB driver and switching from easygps to GSAK, all to no avail. I notice that Garmin claim that the firmware update has cured a problem with intermittent USB transfer, but I still have it. Can anyone help? David
  6. Thanks. Does a UK topo exist for any other handheld GPS. such as the Magellan?
  7. I'm thinking of getting a gpsmap 60c, having been playing around with a gps60 for a couple of months loaned to me by work. The main reason for wanting a mapping gps is for hiking in places like the Lake District. It would be tremendously helpful to have a machine which could show me exactly which mountain I was on when the mist came down. However, I haven't tracked down a decent topographic map of UK terrain yet. City select seems to show every street, but no footpaths let alone contours. The OS 1:25000 maps seem to exist on cd-rom but for loading onto a pc, rather than a gps. Does anyone know of a good UK topo product that would meet my requirements? Thanks David
