  1. Thanks for the link, I'm looking at it now. (It did come up on my search- but I got scared off by the Magellan references- but is also applicable to Garmin units yes?) Question #1- (unlike most Mac users I do try to read the directions, then just jump in and attempt intuitive if all else fails-) "For various reasons I prefer to geocache using the Point of Interest file system found on the eXplorist rather than the Geocaching file system. The method outlined here follows suit."- can I use the querys I am used to by doing this? I know, my questions are very basic, I really am in over my head here, but I just know there has to be a way for this to work in the way I envision.
  2. I fall into that category of the inexperienced and fearful of the command line- heck I can't even find the command line. Any chance someone could work me through to at least that point, then I would be happy to follow that tutorial.
  3. Struggling to learn how to interface my PowerBook G4 and my new Legend CX for my weekly pocket query information-it looks like Gpsbabel should do the trick. Anyone out there willing to give me some beginning tips. And yes, I explored the babel site, have already tried to run it- babel seems to recognize my computer and gps- even thinks it sent my query to the gps- but either it didn't, or I don't know how to complete the last step to input. Many thanks- steer me in another direction if this is the wrong forum.
  4. Another highly allergic person praising Tecnu. I carry Technu Extreme with my in my caching bag, always wash my exposed areas when I get to the car, and then take a shower in the soap when I return. Haven't had a major outbreak since I started doing this, and after years of annual multi outbreaks it is such a relief!

    Map Issue

Nope. Family handle- kids names are Sam and Daniel and we live in Oregon.
  6. Whatever. Language evolves. If you care about your affect on others, you would too. Leaving this discussion now.

    Map Issue

Same issue here. Guess I won't take it personally.
  8. Orientals??? Dating yourself fella, term is no longer in use, and considered offensive to many- people you are probably referring to are recent Asian immigrants who know that bamboo grows like a weed and can find use and or money for the stuff.
  9. Hmm- today is the day after the event and it is still listed, not sure how to remove?
  10. Do the items remove themselves after the date passes, or is there something I am supposed to do? Attended an event today, and it still shows as will attend, even after I have posted my attended note in the logs.
  11. Just got to give props where props are due. Trying to mess with a Garmin unit that is new to me. Having trouble with one of the features- became an annoyance, but could not figure out how to change- played around with it through several caching outings, asked others who had a similiar machine, looked through the manual several times- and then one quick FREE phone call (without asking me about ownership, warrenties, anything)- and I was given a simple settings change that solved the problem. Less than one minute on hold. Awesome!
  12. TECNU- wash those nasty oils off your body quick.
  13. See that Road Trip just hit the road. Congratulations- see there is hope. Bet Frigid Freddy will resurface as well! Now if only my missing coins prove to be as fortunate....
  14. Just one of my pet peeves in life- hate going to look for a bug/coin only to find it has been missing for quite awhile. Try at times to email the cache owners and/or TB owners, limited success.... is there another method (if the missing status is clearly marked in the logs over time?).
  15. I look like the person who picked up your bug has stopped caching. They found a few caches for a month or two, and then stopped caching (or at least they stopped using that caching name). They haven't logged in since September. They may not be getting your emails. I've got a few that I am pining over too- and have sent out several emails with no response. Is there no notification if the mail is going into a dead letter file (ie bouncing on a closed account)?
  16. Might want to try calling Garmin, they have an excellent customer services reputation. Thanks for the comment. I tried switching to North Up. The map no longer spins but my icon still does, continuously when I'm not moving. If I am tracking a waypoint, the compass pointer spins too. None of my other GPSrs do this, and I always keep them on "Track Up" I'm really concerned that I may have a defective GPSr but I don't know anyone with a Venture Cx who can advise if this behavior is typical.
  17. Did you get enough testers? Now entering a realm where you and I could be helpful to each other- I'm getting a new GPS and my primary computer is a PowerBookG4.
  18. Note the time. I am looking for a rescue. Traveling and was loaned a 60CS to mess with. (Also have my etrex, so worse come to worse could use that). Have a Mac (pure/not the new hybrid kind). Downloaded a query of the local caches that I would like to get on this unit. Have only the cable it came with. And access to the internet. Is there a way for my computer to *talk* to this GPS? Really would like to do some caching tomorrow without loading one by one. Going to pour a glass a wine and hope that someone else is up who will talk me through this. Thanks!
  19. Got a good deal on the unit, maps and auto kit- so sealed the deal. Will Oregon and Washington fit on existing memory (and how do you find that out), or do I need to upgrade the memory right away? If I need to upgrade memory- can someone steer me in the right direction? Thanks.
  20. Re: Map source city- How do I find out what cities are covered? I live in a smaller city (Salem, OR)- would really like detailed maps of Oregon and Southern Washington to leave on the GPS, and just load other cities when I travel one by one.
