  1. Thanks, very helpful. Found the Diabetic TB from my town that way already, cool. For the jeeps- by doing it that way for both the Green and the Red came up with 100 items- is that the search limit- if so, is the 100 random, or is there away around it? Or- if someone is more techo savvy- I am trying to see if there are any Jeeps (any color) for Salem, OR or nearby towns. Thanks.
  2. Would like to know if there is a data base of the Jeep's- so I can look up certain cities and see if there were any Jeeps released in their honor. Thanks.
  3. Similar question- what would be the cost to ship to Germany? Have a friend living there and will be visiting in the near future. Thanks.
  4. I use plastic grocery bags with handles and stuff them into film canisters. Labeled with our local caching insignia and the geocaching CITO logo. Anything bigger doesn't fit into the film canisters. Random related babble of the day- why the heck do people leave so much trash when they party? They lug the stuff into the woods, why can't they lug it out. I can't believe how much trash I saw on a recent caching adventure on logging roads- much of it cans.
  5. Morph idea is cute. If I can't find another of the same coin I'll do that. I've given up on getting the original coin back into play- guy lurks around on the site but isn't making self public anymore. Thus my original post of disabling his account. As he is no longer playing by the rules. But whatever. I'm ready to let it go. And the hitchiker coin that I tried to send out and was stolen. Now I do buy in doubles, actually in triples if I like the coin, one to send out, one for backup, and one to keep.
  6. Waah, waah, waah. OK- I'm done. Anyone have an extra Nero coin I can buy?
  7. Not my strongest virtue. Nor for the child it was on the way to. Oh well, lesson learned. Sent out 3 on gift missions. Only one is still in play. No more coin releases for me.
  8. Cacher with 5 logged finds took a coin of ours in Feb. of this year. No movement. No additional caching activity. No response to emails. Still logs onto the site though. Is there a way to ask geocaching.com to disable the account- as they do not respond to emails, have not logged a find in 6 months and are not respecting the guidelines of the community.
  9. I am desperately in need of new light weight hiking footwear as I am in the process of losing both my big toe nails from doing an elevation change summer hike in sneakers- I guess my feet swelled and caused too much pressure when going down hill. Yuck- it's been a mess. Willing to spend money. Want to make sure I get a good fit (also have some other foot issues so need good support). But where/how to get a good fitting? I know a great shoe store, but hiking is not really their area of expertise- they fit me for a great pair of walking shoes (Merrell's)- but don't have any selection of hiking shoes. Would really like an expert fitting- I spend a lot of time outdoors in constant movement. I'm in a smaller city- but Portland, OR is about an hour away and has pretty much any reputable chain. Thanks.
  10. Oregon cacher 2trax caches from a chair, he might be willing to share tips with you.
  11. Have a PowerBook G4 and a Legend CX- GPS is compatible with USB port- no additional cables or software needed. The mapping program is the problem- need to load that up using a PC- but you only have to do that once. I use LoadMyTracks as I couldn't figure out Babel. Search the forums you'll see lots of tips on using a Mac.
  12. I have a PowerBook G4. Started with an etrex, but now have a Legend Cx (upgraded to take advantage of pocket queries and mapping program). Had to load my maps to my GPS via son's PC, but other than that Mac native. Cord that came with the GPS is all I need to download onto to Mac. Use: Pocket Queries for the data LoadMyTracks to get info onto my GPS (free simple program, could not figure out GPS Babel and could not find someone to help out a newbie- this program was up and running in seconds) Have an old Palm500 MacCMConvert to translate the data Use Cachemate to manipulate the data ($8 program and awesome, loads the logs, the hints, description etc, manipulatable data base that even a pretty point and shoot person like me can use functionally)
  13. Not stupid at all. All part of the learning curve. Enjoy. Thank you for the quick reply! OK, when I am going somewhere else, I will go see if he is still there and take him along. If not he has already moved! Guess the question sounded stupid but I just wanted to be helpful. Thanks again!
  14. Received ours today. Really like the nickel, both the front and simple back.
  15. Awesome. Thanks for the quick response. OK- so now I see that in fact I already have 500 waypoints listed- as I cache in 3 distinct areas. Is there away to use the card to store more waypoints when I travel to yet another area- or do I have to manually remove a bunch to make room for the new area? (I know I can always download them back, so that's not a biggie, its just manually removing that could be a pain.
  16. Recently upgraded from our trusty yellow etrex, manually inserting all caches, to the Legend Cx. and additional mapping program. Also have a Palm 500 and cachemate that we are learning. Would like to learn how to use our Legend to its fullest. Unfortunately none of the users in our local group have this unit (most prefer the 60 model) and when I visited our local sporting goods intro lesson they said my questions were advanced and I would have to seek help elsewhere. So I guess I am not a beginner, but certainly not advanced.... OK- so here goes- all tips would be appreciated, but speak slowly- I am a trial and error learner.... (Oh, and to complicate matters, I prefer to use our Mac- PowerBook G4- Mac native only, but do have access to PC's) How many geocaches/waypoints can this unit hold? How do I see a list of all that I have downloaded, not just the nearest 30 or so? I have a number of query configurations I download regularly- our local area is cache rich so I use a 250 range on that, and then there are 2 different directions I routinely travel that I also do with 100 caches listed. My palm can hold all that- but my GPS is saying full- I thought it held 500- so I want to see just how many I do have downloaded already. How do I switch from viewing my Geocaches from nearest to a list- right now the default is nearest, which is fine, but sometimes I want to look for a particular one and map to it- I get to that feature by hit or miss, can someone give me step by step directions to get to that option so I can switch regularly? At one point I manually placed some caches in using the Waypoint/mark feature (before I figured out how to download)- if I remove them am I also removing from the geocache list? (ie is the unit *smart* enough not to have duplicated them?) I would like to buy more memory for this unit- what type of chip am I looking for and where is a good source for that- what is the likely pricerange for 2GB? Mac question: I use Load My Tracks to get the info translated as I can not figure out how to use Babel- but it seems like this program is pretty basic- is there someone who can tutor me in the Babel program? I tried the mailing list- but the questions are so advanced it is way over my head- people who exchange info there are talking about how to tweak the programming, I don't even know how to run the program. Thanks in advance for any help- I'm pleased with my purchase, love the small profile of this unit, just wish I knew how to use it more efficiently.
  17. Just checking- trip is next month....
  18. Today is June 3rd. I posted on May 10th that I was planning on attending an event scheduled for May 26th. I attended the event- it has now been archived. It is still on my list. On May 15th I posted that I was planning on attending an event scheduled for May 19th. That too I attended and is archived. It remains on my list as well.....
  19. It's staying too long. Three or four days should be enough, even a week. I attended an event on the 15th of May and now it's the first of June and it's still in the list. Cached Will they drop off on their own, or is there something we are to do to remove them?
  20. Load my tracks does what you want free at http://www.cluetrust.com/ I'm messing around with the same issue- and just downloaded Load my Tracks (haven't had luck with Babel yet) and I must say it is simple and intuitive. Only issue on first glance is that the caches are listed by GC file numbers, not names- but perhaps as I only just tried it, maybe that is a setting feature I can change?
  21. Glenn Widing looks like an easier beginning. Like the other posters said, try for caches with a 1/1 rating to start, that have been recently found. Bigger the better. And welcome.
  22. We just planted one in a similar location, did bring some pruners and clear the area as best I could, and plan on doing what I can to keep it at bay when I visit.
  23. Download the GUI version, and skip the command line. That is what I did. That's what I tried first. And it looked so hopeful. But after the operation completed, I didn't see anything on my GPS- that's why I was asking, is there one more step I am supposed to do, or did the download not take place?
