We teach GPS with the GPS 60 unit in the midwest. It has the Quad helix antenna in it which works great under trees etc. Batteries do last long, we average about 24 hours with them. Like the screen size and display. We have used them with students for about 2 years and never had one of our 55 units go bad. If you want more, then the next step is the GPS Map 60 but I would suggest the topo software which gives pretty good detail. Now if you like the 60 style, and want the SirF chip go for the GPS 60 Cx - it works inside my house. Color is neat as well. Ed

National Geographic has software that runs on PC and Macs. It is called GPS USA, runs about 20-25 dollars. You can download the data into an txt file, and either with a simple program like Notepad (I know Mac has a similar program) label the columns and then add it as an event theme into a GIS application. We teach bringing it into excel, label the columns, say it as a txt file and then bring it into ArcV programs. Ed
