  1. Still hating vista here. I installed Palm Desktop 4.14e and it worked OK for a day or two. It hotsynced, but not all my existing applications. Quickinstall will not work by double clicking a .pdb file, nor can I drag and drop. But using File>Add files works. Now, today; I try to Hotsync and it starts and as soon as it identifies user it terminates. No joy here. Right now Magellan and Palm are in a support worst of race, Magellan still has a big lead, but Palm is trying. Again, all of this is a Handspring Visor Deluxe and Windows Vista.
  2. We talked about this one earlier this year: HR2846 Yes, it's in Yosemite. No, I'm not going to try to recover it. Patty I've got 50 feet of rope, I'm double covered. Let's go, who's got the helo?
  3. OK, as I thought; the markings have directional meaning. Thanks for the info all. Now, looking at this marker; what would you call it? Would you use the measurements? or LO/MP? or are those reference points as well? ie If you made this a waymark, what would YOU call it?
  4. Here's a marker I recently found and posted as a waymark. (The link may not work until the WM is approved) Waymark CA Div Highway Can someone decipher the markings. LO 162+19.06 RP 45.00 LT Is LO a refernece point and 162+19.06 an angle or distance or both? RP maybe the surveyor and 45.00 LT the height of light? Any insight appreciated.
  5. I've got a bunch of finds that are really just different agency disks; though there are some that are interesting. Las Vegas Blvd ROW I've found about a dozen that I created as waymarks.
  6. Got my autogrphed book, thanks mucho! Too bad the oldfarts haven't even seen it. I wouldn't have minded at all if you'd pawed thru it, QC inspection; you know? I'd trust you guys to run the contest and be in it, too. I'll see if I can do better at completing the next contest, whenever/whatever it is.
  7. Geekboy, Thanks, that worked just fine for the original maps route. Didn't try changing it. I just wish Google would put both features on maps and earth.
  8. I was trying to make a google earth kml for a trip this weekend. The route went a longer, slower route. Oddly, google maps goes the correct way. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to get a driections kml out of google maps - can it be done? Or, how can I change a route created in earth? I don't want to have to freehand a couple hundred mile drive. If I can't get it to work, I might have to combinje two kml's, how is that done? I made two, forcing earth to go to an intermediate spot the correct way. It's all really frustrating, I can change directions on maps, but no kml. I can't change directions in earth, but I can make kml's.
  9. Where was the geocacher/BMer showing up with his GPS and recording his log?
  10. So far for me, a Visor Deluxe and Windows Vista are a no go. I've tried palm desktop 4.? and the 6.2? beta for vista. The beta for vista installs, but hangs on hotsync. Looks like I've got to upgrade to a Z22. Bummer, too; my old Visor broke and I got one in new condition shipped off of Ebay for $10.01 Then I got a new computer and vista was the only thing available in the big box stores. Oh, BTW, I hate vista.
  11. Well, after all my concerns and edits; it was accepted as above. http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/ds_pid.prl/1 Kinda cool seeing my info go into a national database. 34 years after the last submission when monumented. Kinda like the feeling I've gotten when I've been published, but I'd wager even less people will see this.
  12. Sorry 'bout that double tap above. Here are my results from my trip to Vegas. I found 19 established Waymarks, 3 virtual Geocaches. I did not find any BM's on the GC database or NGS Clark County download. (so no new poker hands ) As far as these special LV Markers, I found 16 of them, 1 set of RM's, 2 NV DOT markers, 1 Clark County Marker, and 1 Clark County rivet/square that I can't quite figure out yet. I've submitted all but the last to Waymarking, excepting the last. The highest # I found was 058, so I've got at least 42 more to find as another excuse to return to Lost Wages. I did find the #021 previously waymarked, but did not find #054 and #055 like 2oldfarts (the rockhounders) did. I didn't have those coordinates with me and didn't stumble across them. That's how I found all but #021, looking down while walking and not up like a tourist. All of these were found in about a mile and a half stretch of Las Vegas Blvd. So, here we go, in numerical order. (All waymarked by me unless noted) These took all night to post and not all are approved yet, might have to wait until a reviewer wakes up. Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #001 Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #012 Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #013 Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #014 Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #018 Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #21 Posted by Vegas Gamblers Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #022 Only about 8-12 feet from #021 Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #023 Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #024 Only about 12 feet from #023 Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #025 Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #031 Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #032 Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #046 Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #047 Reference Markers I found a couple of RM's for #047; but not #047 itself - I think; see the next one. Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #0?? I couldn't number this one, because someone built a wall on top of it! Odds put it probably having a number in the 40's. Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #056 Las Vegas Blvd Right of Way Las Vegas Strip Benchmark #058 That's it for the specials, here's the others NV Dept. of Trans. Control Monument #413221H posted by TexasGreg. His coordinates seem to be WAY off, and his location slightly off. NV DOT Control Monument 413220H 1998 Monumented by NV DOT Las Vegas Blvd CP NO 108 Monumented by Clark County. Well, that's it for one night of posting.
  13. I'd prefer to have a standalone BM statbar. Then, put all three statbar's in a row on my webpage, GC,BM, WM
  14. I agree that WM is hard to navigate, I'm just starting to get it a little bit. I went looking for #21; found it and found #22 about 8 feet away. (I found a lot as pairs like that) In a couple of days,I should have all I found (~15-20) posted and will let you all know.

  16. I just found about 20 of these on a Vegas visit, as well as some NV DOT ones. I plan to put them all on Waymarking soon as only 1 is now. Will keep you posted.
  17. Mind if I ask HOW you got on San Clemente Island? As far as I know, it's a Navy Reservation and no access? Or am I misinformed. PS Good shots BTW.
  18. Bringing an old thread back to life. There's a customizable GC statbar, Waymarking has a non-customizable statbar How about either one for Benchmarking?
  19. At least it's still there. In the area I live, I think they've just graded them under and/or destroyed them. Even along the railroad tracks when they added tracks - they all seem to be gone.
  20. My Magellan Platinum (greyscale) sits in my truck in a holder next to my A Pillar. I use it with Direct Route all the time and it works great for me. I can't afford multiple units and I use this unit in multiple vehicles, a bike and on the trail. It's a good compromise. With the small screen and the clunky address entry, it's best to enter destination while stopped; but after that it all works great.
  21. This one makes you realize how stupid some of our power and budget hungry beurocrats are. It happened in New Haven, CT. The city is also stating that they will try to recover $50,000 allegedly spent from the charged suspects. The "authorities" greatly overreacted in this instance. They were approached by the suspects who explained what it was and yet the "response" continued. You can see I'm a bit torqued by this. I belong to a chapter of the same worldwide running group. (If you want to know more about this group, PM me and I can fill you in) These types of "HazMat Scares" have happened literally dozens of times. There are many that have been in the news, Omaha and KC I think for two. So much so, that the FBI is aware of it nationally and has it in their procedures. This was not followed in this case. All that was put on the ground was standard kitchen flour. It looks little different from the chalk put down for cross-country practices and races and 5K type runs; only it's safer. The Mayor of New Haven suggested that spray paint be used instead. Stupid suggestion, leaves a near permanent mess. Locally I've witnessed two similar overreactions. One, a private HazMat team (semiconductor plant) came out of their parking lot and started cordoning off our little trail. The person who put the trail there tried to reassure them of it's safety. At first, they wouldn't let him get near it; so he ran over, put a handful in his mouth and ate it right in front of them. Then they realized their mistake and his honesty. They just kept watching us after that. In another instance, the local PD saw one of our runners grab a plain paper bag containing flour she had hidden from under a bush. They thought it was cocaine. How ridicuolou! So they got her vitals, confiscated the flour and had it analyzed. Anaylytical results were "cooking flour with trace impurities". The big point is that the "authorities" are WAY overresponding. Anthrax is not white in color like flour. People do not run through IKEA parking lots unprotected dropping 25 lbs of anthrax. Runners do not stash 5 lb bags of cocaine in the bushes. There is another BM'er who posts occasionally here that belongs to our same group and he could tell you the same as well, but I won't rat him out just yet. While wise to be vigilant, one must be reasonable as well. Rant mode off and sorry to hijack this thread somewhat. To bring this back to BM'ing; any cop or other who thinks you've got illicit material or anthrax to spread around on markers is just a blooming idiot - especially after you tell him so. You can only be so paranoid.
  22. As far as the 1 year plus or older BM's - does one physically go back to them to put a note, or just put in a note and then use them in a hand? As far as hands and problems, I'm all for letting me know about mine - publically or otherwise. When you PM'd me, my counter said 0; I'll have to keep checking it.
  23. Okay, deal me in for a couple of hands Full House with bonus DB0595 EHL 7 DB0408 EHL 6 FU1420 E 824 also old 1947 for 5pts FU1281 G 67 and very old 1927 for 10 pts FU1414 G 963 X 8 pts for the hand and 10 pts for the bonus = 18 ( I can only claim 1 bonus right? otherwise +5) My next hand is two pair with a bonus FU1963 D 1016 FU1417 D 824 old 1947 for 5 pts FU1421 Z 66 very old for 10 pts FU1428 Z 558 2 pts for the hand and 10 pts for the bonus = 12 ( I can only claim 1 bonus right? otherwise +5) Total for my 2 hands is 30 pts ( I can only claim 1 bonus per hand right? otherwise +10 total) Go ahead and let me know if I've done anything wrong; and if any pictures aren't good enough I can try to edit them.
  24. Can you explain this one to me? 5pts) Flush = 5 of the same line #, no mixing benchmarks from more than 1 line even if it is the same line number Does that mean coincidentally the same line # that is actually from two different regions that got the same #?
  25. OK, I tried to post a hand, but I think I got it wrong. Came over here to look at the rules and now I know what a line is. Learn something new everyday. I'll be happy to get a hand or two together, but if I do; I'll be going "ALL IN!"
