  1. TresOkies you are my new best friend! I just got my GPS companion for my visor and will be anxiously waiting to see the new version. "No matter where you go, there you are." -- Buckaroo Banzai

  3. My vote is not listed as a option. I think there should be a base number of finds before you can start hiding caches yourself. But once you get that base number of finds you can hide as many as you want. I think some people enjoy the planning and preperation of hiding a cache more than actually hunting for one. I know many will disagree with me but, I don't think there are too many 'junk' caches. The joy for me is in getting outside and spending time with my family. I don't care too much what is in the cache, we usually leave more than we take anyway. I have a 5 year old son, so an easy to find cache filled with happy meal toys makes him happy. We've taken him on a couple of what some people refer to as 'quality caches' and he usually gets bored before we find the treasure. We need these easy caches along with the more challanging ones to appeal to everyone. "No matter where you go, there you are." -- Buckaroo Banzai
  4. I think Jeremy posted something recently about new zip code data base. That could have something to do with the distances changing. Also something about new maps in the last couple of months. I'd guess that one or both of those upgrades is to blame. "No matter where you go, there you are." -- Buckaroo Banzai

  6. I also just got the GPS companion for my visor. It does take a while longer to find the birdies than my husbands stand alone GPS, but we were out in some trees last weekend and I was reading more birds than he was. In fact I'm sitting inside my office building right now and I'm reading 6 satelites. I just got mine on the 21st so I'm still getting used to it. One nice thing about using it with your visor is that if you don't like the Magellan software you can find other software out there for using a GPS with the palm OS. I'm testing one right now called PathAway So far I like it, but I just installed it last night. They give you a 15 day trial for free then you can pay for the full version. 8. Sorry we missed you! You hit our Big Tree cache about 30 minutes before we were there to do some maintenance. Glad you had fun this weekend. "No matter where you go, there you are." -- Buckaroo Banzai

  10. You can find Quilt hangers at a few local fabric stores. There is a bracket that is mounted to the wall and then a removable piece that holds the quilt that you attach to the wall bracket. Direct sunlight is a killer, not only will it fade the colors but over time it will actually make the fabric fall apart. **Side note** Taco del Mar is a classy dining establishment up here in the Northwest. 12. quote:Originally posted by gnbrotz: Has anyone tried the temp tattoo paper for inkjet printers? I'm assuming you'd print a mirror image and then the ink would be between your skin and the tattoo material. They probably wouldn't be as good as these professionally produced ones, but it still might be a neat idea. Greg N 39°54.705' W 77°33.137' We just picked up the paper, but haven't tried it yet. 13. We have a couple of cacher's out here that will put new coord's in their logs if the original coords were off. Since every one's GPS units have a different margin for error a second set can sometimes help the next person. The owner of the cache has the choice to stick with their original numbers or change them. We'll specifically look for one persons logs on a difficult cache. He will usually make a note of how accurate the cache placers coords were, and post his figures if they don't match. "No matter where you go, there you are." -- Buckaroo Banzai
  14. We had the same idea but just haven't done it yet. We'll be sending our SASE out right away. If we ever get ours done we'll send some your way in return. "No matter where you go, there you are." -- Buckaroo Banzai

  16. Little Lost One was 8 weeks when he went on his first cache hunt. We had him in his car carrier on the stroller. I don't recommend this. Much too hard pushing that stroller off road/trail. We did the stroller thing again the following weekend on another hunt, we took turns standing on the side of the trail on that hunt. It was a pretty busy hiking trail and we felt a bit awkward standing on the side of the trail while one of us was off in the brush looking for the cache. If you don't already have one get a Baby Bjorn. They are expensive but you pay for quality. They are very comfortable, will hold the baby facing either direction and you can get extra long straps so Dad can carry the baby too. I think they also have the highest weight rating, so you can use it until they are ready for a regular framed backpack carrier. I also like the fact that with him close to me like that I can make sure he stay's warm. (Keep's mom warm & toasty as well ) "No matter where you go, there you are." -- Buckaroo Banzai

  18. It's a little south of Seattle but Misguided One just placed an ammo can cache in Kent. That should be large enough for the ducky's. The end is just the beginning "No matter where you go, there you are." -- Buckaroo Banzai
  19. We didn't start until after Little Lost One was born. But we took him with us when he was just 8 weeks old. "No matter where you go, there you are." -- Buckaroo Banzai
  20. Is there a protocol for hosting an event cache? Misguided One and I are considering hosting one this summer. "No matter where you go, there you are." -- Buckaroo Banzai
  21. Seth! hosted a great murder mystery cache event. Here's the link http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=13399 We had a great time. The clue's to the murder led us to another cache near by. We also contributed to a new cache that was placed by Seth! after the event. "No matter where you go, there you are." -- Buckaroo Banzai
  22. First I want to say that I totally support what Jeremy has done with the charter memberships and the new options for cache placement. My husband already has his charter membership and I'll be getting one soon. That being said, I have to say I agree with this point. quote:Originally posted by Robereno: If I were new and was looking at the map and getting enthused about going for a search only to find after clicking on the icon that I have to pay money for the details, it would really turn me off. I'd be nice if there were a way to hide the MOC from the general viewing public so they wouldn't even see them listed. After they have visited the site a few times, gone on a couple of hunts and gotten hooked my guess is they will look into getting a Charter Membership. 'Nuff said.
  23. It did make it out west. Moun10bike brought it to the event cashe. What a cool idea!
