  1. I'm using a Garmin Oregon with a low-profile Ram handlebar mount http://www.ram-mount.com/mount/garmin_oregon_mount.htm
  2. Am I wrong in that the site has been updated but you still can't popup cache details on a tablet??? I've tried 3 different browsers on an iPad and it STILL doesn't work!!!
  3. Geocaches can be deleted from the GPS by connecting to a computer and deleting the .gpx files containing the caches. Search here for delete geocaches for more info, as the question about how to delete them is asked several times a week. I believe the limit for the etrex 20 is 2000, but someone who owns knows for sure should confirm this. The GPS will warn you when you've reached the cache limit.
  4. There has been a fundamental change in how caches are loaded to a GPS. In new units like the 62, caches are loaded via .gpx files, which contain 1 - many caches. Caches are deleted by deleting the .gpx files which contain them. The WHY you can't delete them on the GPS is because the GPS does not have the capability to let the user browse its file system on the device itself. Why Garmin hasn't implemented this I can't answer. Maybe there is something posted on a GARMIN forum. I have an Oregon, which has a touch screen. To see a distant map, I do what you did above, but instead of hitting "GO", I just touch the map and can then just explore that area. Can you just move the cursor off "Go" and then hit enter? That should be pretty close to what I do by touching the map. You sort of answered your own question but didn't realize it. I think that cache limits are limited by memory. When you said memory, you were referring to the amount of storage space on the card. Memory is the temporary working space on the GPS (think RAM on a computer). The GPS has to load all those stored caches into it's memory, which is limited. So it's the GPS' memory (and to an extent its operating system) that is likely dictating the limits, not the amount of storage space internally or on the card.
  5. Well, you didn't say HOW you are trying to load them. Since you are a Premium Member, are you generating PQs and copying them to the \GPX folder on the GPS? I'm guessing not from what you posted. Looks like you're on a Mac using Firefox. Since I load caches via PQs, I'm not sure why you're getting the error, or even if the Mac/Firefox combination is supported. It looks like the browser plug-in is causing the issue, though. My suggestion would be to generate PQs and copy them over. You'll eventually run into trouble even if you do get the one-at-a-time-through-the-browser thing going.
  6. I can't even displayna page with Safari on an iPad and IOS 5. The page begins to render then turns white, with the exception ofnthe small map. The url redirects to http://www.geocaching.com/my/default.aspx.
  7. Yes. The trick is to use the map within the app. You can zoom and pan it easily. When you see a cache you want further details about, just touch the icon and you'll get a popup with additional information, and buttons to get even more detail. You won't have the issues you experienced trying to view gc.com through the phone's browser, because the app was designed to work in this environment.
  8. I'd move them . . somewhere. If something goes wrong, you can always put them back!
  9. The problem is that the method behind the map bubbles isn't totally compatible with the mobile phone's web browser. I have similar problems using my iPad with the website. Don't shy away from a smartphone because of this, though. The key is to use an app, not the web browser. The app will overcome any of the shortcomings in the browser itself, and be much more functional! Like ChefRd2000, I use c:geo open source. It works incredibly well. I wouldn't use an Android phone for geocaching without it! With this or other apps, you likely won't have any need to use the web browser alone for the gc.com site.
  10. GCzII is no longer in development, apparently. It hasn't been updated since mid-last year. While it may be useful in some ways, a lot of its functionality is no longer working.
  11. I have a Grand Cherokee, which uses a Garmin GPS. It works fine for navigation, but it honestly can't hold a candle to an Oregon or other handheld unit. There are times, both when I am and am not navigating, that I like to zoom out and pick my own route. Despite the much larger screen size than a handheld, zooming out quickly causes the map to loose street detail, and there is no "zoom level" tweaking that can be done. Additionally, screen redraws when zooming are painfully slow. Also, panning requires generation of a new "page". Both the page generation and the panning are also much slower than would be on a handheld. I find that when I need to do the pans or zooms I described above, I most often get out my Droid 3 and use Google maps!
  12. I don't have a KMZ to look at, but do you have the original .gpx from the track? If you do, you can open it in notepad and delete the unwanted entries. If you stare at it for a couple minutes, the structure of the file will become obvious.
  13. I use a generic camera case I picked up at Best Buy. For the bike, you can't beat the Ram Mount!
  14. This is the sort of opinion I want. Don't need touchscreen but must have paperless. Thanks will check. If posting a quick log in the GPS is going to be part of your paperless efforts, I'd try writing a log or two with both a 62 and an Oregon before you decide you don't need a touchscreen. You might decide that entering a log without a touchscreen isn't for you. FWIW, I use an Oregon, love the touchscreen, but write the logs on my cell phone. Before I could use the phone to write logs, I did use the Oregon and wouldn't have wanted to enter them without a touchscreen. It's all personal preference, though.
  15. A number years ago, Verizon locked the GPS on some Windows Mobile phones, so what you heard was technically accurate a LONG time ago. You won't have those issues today with Verizon's Androids or iPhone. The GPSs work just fine with 3rd party apps.
  16. If you are "within a few feet" of the cache, it's time to put the phone away and start looking. GPS's are not so accurate that they'll put you exactly on the cache. What you are seeing is a result of slight variations in where the GPS thinks you are, so if you are right "on top of" the cache, it will look to the GPS to be at spots all around you, causing the spinning. If the directional arrow spinning bothers you, try using the map view and looking at your breadcrumb trail if your app supports it. Just pay attention to where you are/have been in relation to where the cache is.
  17. It's there. I just searched the Market and found it. If you're searching on your phone, you may need to click on "xxx Results" to show all of the search results. I searched for "Geocaching", but the official app was not one of the two shown. Show all results and you'll find it not too far down.
  18. I do what Tim suggests. When you do this, make sure you change the name of the PQ (at the top of the PQ generator page) from "New Query". Your PQ download will then be named whatever you enter here.
  19. Not sure that I understand, but here is the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/170681173719?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  20. @Lodge Pole Under $100 is a bit light for a used Oregon 400T, as they sell for $200+. You might want to research the eTrex series, which is a bit more affordable.
  21. Thanks for the interest! I have posted the item on eBay and will keep it there. I don't want to remove it as it doesn't seem to be to be the fair way to do things. I've posted the link here, though, in case you're interested. Thanks! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170681173719&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  22. I had to re-post this one. Here is the proper URL: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170681173719
  23. I've got a 400T in excellent condition for sale on Ebay. Screen protector installed when new. Free shipping! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170678999699&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT US sales only. Thanks!
