  1. You might try this one, a place called GPSgeek. They have a toll free number that you can call, maybe they take mail in money orders. $12.95 for the cable is a good deal. Here is a link to the page for the cable: LINK Good luck. hiker
  2. turmoil n 1: a disorderly outburst or tumult; "they were amazed by the furious disturbance they had caused" [syn: disturbance, disruption, commotion, stir, flutter, hurly burly, to-do] 2: violent agitation [syn: tumult] 3: disturbance usually in protest [syn: agitation, excitement, upheaval, hullabaloo] Congrats to both teams. Anyone want to start a pool on a date that they reach 20,000?
  3. Umm, I think I saw a thread that proved it's not about the numbers. I'll see if I can find it.
  4. Yep. My front porch is under my avtar. Nice sig line, BTW.
  5. Based on my caching experiences you should be more concerned about the depletion of Gladware and McToys.
  6. I bought one on eBay, cost me $12 delivered to my door in less than 4 days. Try looking there if you don't get a good offer here.
  7. Well, I just read the trespass statute for the zillionth time just to be sure, but since you asked, I figured I'd read it again so my data was correct. Under Florida law, there is no exemption for geocaching in the trespass laws, and any lawyer who passed the bar exam would most likely be aware of that fact. Ergo, that particular statement would probably not come up in court. If that statement did happen to come up in court, I'm sure the Judge would educate the lawyer. Does that answer your question? What? Wadda ya mean it was rhetorical? Clan, I must have read your post wrong. I'm not as forum savvy as most so I'll just have to say that your original post I was commenting on was post #5 of this thread. After reading a couple of more times I see what you are getting at. Somehow I was reading your response as a "jump the fence" response, and my post was a little smart arse. I'm pretty sure we're on the same page. Mr and Mrs Wisearese, I would have contacted the cache owner first. A lesson learned through personal experience.
  8. My opinion on sbell's theory is the same. If a cacher likes to find easier caches, that it what the cacher will place, and the same for cachers who enjoy harder to find caches. To add to that, because they are easier to find, one can assume that they are easier to hide. It is more likely that a cacher will be able to hide more easy caches in a day than a cacher hiding caches at the end of a long hike, drive, swim, whatever. From the opinions expressed in the forums in general, most (not all) easy caches and disappointing caches (2 different things so don't flame me on that, not saying all easy caches are dissappointing) are placed for the sake of the numbers. It would make sense then that those striving for numbers, and not location, are the ones hiding the dissappointing caches and feeling good about it because they are helping those that need the numbers. My $0.02. edit to add: I like caching. Somedays I want a challenge. Some days I want a drive up. Somedays I don't feel like doing anything but sitting on my butt. I can choose what I want to find and do on any given day. I like KBI's remarks (didn't see them before I posted) about being a participant, not a customer.
  9. I wonder how that would stand up in court.... Ok, how would this stand up in court? "Your honor, it is impossible that my client is guilty of criminal trespass. Yes, my client did willfully climb over a fence to access the property, but they were geocaching so it was not a crime."
  10. A good place to look around is the "GPS Units and Software" forum. I'm sure a moderator will move this thread there shortly.
  11. Not sure about the markings. I do know that if the lid is hinged on side of the can, it is old and if the can is hinged on the end it is newer. The only pic I could find is pretty big. Here ya go on the older can:
  12. Props to PNWadmin and Team Misguided for the review work they do in my area. Thanks!
  13. When I was a kid we lived in Walla Walla, Washington not Voila Voila, Washington.
  14. I saw that the other day. I can't remember who but if I did I would PM and tell him that it's like trying to read a book backwards.
  15. Neat idea, but personally I would like to trust my survival on a little more than a tin full of cheap trinkets.
  16. I agree! (sorry, I couldn't resist) I second that motion I 3rd that motion Really though I think it comes from people not knowing how to use the forum properly. Yeah, that drives me nuts too. I think people should stop doing that. Seriously, this question has crossed my mind more than once. If I am responding only to the person above me, I usually don't use quotes. It doesn't make sense to me to do so.
  17. I always have The "Climber" with me and I usually have one of these in the car: or a generic Wal-Mart AA eating single bulb LED light.
  18. Palm IIIxe w/dock- $30 on eBay. Cachemate- $8. GSAK- $20. Paperless bliss- Priceless.
  19. For fun: Volunterr FF in my sprawling metropolis of 2100. Busier than it sounds, we turn the wheel 3-6 times a week. I-90 and US 395 intersect and run down the middle of our district. Also the main E/W Burlington Northern-Santa Fe RR line and a Union Pacific RR line run through us as well. We were out 9 hours on a wind-whipped grass fire yesterday started by a RR maintence crew in one of the rougher, basalt rock strewn range land areas of our county. For money (and more fun): Jail Commander/Dispatch Center Supervisor for the county.
  20. You go have fun. Find your happy place whilst you are out.
  21. How will the new policy effect the reviewal/approval process of caching? Will the cache hider now have to provide a copy of the permit, or make some mention of it in their cache submission page? Just a curious question.
