  1. I am planning a 450 mile bicycle tour event cache The tentative start date will be May 20 2005

The Tour will follow the Natchez Trace Parkway from end to end (Natchez Ms to Nashville Tn).

The total length is approximately 450 miles.

It will take about 8-9 days to complete.

To get credit for the event you can ride all or any portion of the tour or just meet me along the way.

We will be camping for most of the tour.

We will ride on average 60 miles per day with 15 min breaks about once an hour.

You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from the start/end points.

Day 1 May 20 Friday night meet at Natchez State Park.

Day 2 May 21 Ride from Natchez terminus to Rocky Springs Campground 59 miles

Day 3 May 22 Ride from Rocky Springs to Ratliff Ferry 74.4 miles

Day 4 May 23 Ratliff Ferry to Jeff Busby 70.5 miles

Day 5 May 24 Jeff Busby to Tupelo Visitor Center 74.2 miles

Day 6 May 25 Tupelo Visitor Center to Colbert Ferry 62 miles

Day 7 May 26 Colbert Ferry to Meriwether Lewis 59.3 miles

Day 8 May 27 Meriwether Lewis to Nashville terminus 57.1 miles

I'm not sure yet if we will use a sag wagon to carry most of the gear or if we'll carry it on bike.

  4. recently a representative came to our Hiking club meeting to discuse WMAs and Nonconsumptive use. the Department of Wildife and Fisheries is starting to recognise that not everbody uses WMA for Hunting and Fishing.

but If you go caching in a Wildlife Managment Area WMA you might want to keep these rules

    in mind.

the Wild Life Magament areas are inteded for hunting and fishing but the do allow for Nononsuptive Use. NCU

If you enter a WMA you must check in and out. even if you not hunting or fishing.

failure to do so could result in fines as high as $400 depending on the Parish.

to Use a Wildlife Mangament Area You must Have a hunting or fishing licence.

you can get a special pass to use it without hunting or fishing for $5 or you can get a cane pole licence for $2. this will alow to to use all 50+ WMAs in La.

  5. In about a week I plan on Cycling the LongLeaf Trace from end to end.

I will start at Prentis and ride all the way to Hatisberg and Back.

I would like to know some good caches along the way.

  6. The Alababa Rambler has voluntered to drive along the way. Carry extra gear food, etc. He can also shuttle people ridding part of the trace back to there cars.

I know not everybody is intrested in ridding all 450 miles but if your intrested in ridding just few miles that will be ok and you'll have a ride back to your car.

if anyone lives near the other stops listed above or other campground along the Trace you can post them here

And distance along the highway. If you know of other campground along the route we can camp

Elsewhere. Most of the campgrounds in S&T are RV parks.

I'm not sure yet if we will use a sage wagon to carry most of the gear or if we'll carry it on bike.

If you are interested in participating or have suggestions post a reply to this thread. When more of the details are ironed out

I will post an event on the cache page.

  10. I have just add map links to Geodiningand there is a GPX file available for download. it should be compatable with Watcher, GPX Spinner, EasyGps and GPS Bable.

It is not compatable with GSAK

When using the file keep in mind that difficulty refers to Price Range

terrain refers to service level. the cache type is listed as Unknown.
