OO, do I feel like a newbie. Thanks BDT for the valuable information.
I suspected this marking was not cool to mark as "found", hence the post. Cool to know it's called a "chiseled cross". Yes, I'm learning there are all sorts of survey marks. So far I've come across the Reference disk, the chiseled cross and a half dozen City of Long Beach markers.
So, I know *not* to list it as a find. Would it be appropriate to log as a not found with the note about the chiseled cross and pictures? Or would that just be a waste?
As for the errored reporting of DY0385, not DY2421. I confess, I was a little confused by this one. I saw the picture from user Flipsican, and thought, "Oh, then this is what I found". So is it safe to say Flipsican suffers the same error as me? I need to get better at reading those long descriptions.
I'm thinking it might not be a bad idea to sketch out the descriptions to get a better fix on the location, rather than just eyeballing/stepping off the area. Seems logical, since these descriptions are for surveyors who do just that, no?
OK, so I logged a find on the wrong PID (since been corrected), and I was correct to NOT log the chiseled cross as a find. Did I at least do an ok job of documenting the recovery?
Thanks for your patience and helping to break me in. Not only am I learning interesting things about surveying, I've also learned several interesting facts about my adopted city!
