  1. Go to this cache page and read cacherunners entry for July 6, 2002 MacKenzie Lake by sandpiper seven She had an interesting day.... We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  2. I go with a group of cachers on occasion and when one of the group finds the cache we all sign the log book and each log the cache as a find, We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  3. I voted for Temporarily suspend new locationless caches. Having said that, I have to admit that I've done 5 to date, even the dreaded 'yellow Jeep' but I posted 2 pics. one of a new jeep and the other of a old CJ5 in 2 different places and it took my 5 days to find an older one. I went this route to a) make the locationless a little more interesting to do and b)there were few pictures of older Jeeps so it also made the find slightly different. I find the locationless to be a bit of an enigma, sometimes they can be 'lame' but others can let you see places or things in the world that you may never get to. But it comes down to how much work one is willing to put into 'finding' the cache. I also think that can be said for all types of caches and the cachers who hide and find them. The other point is that in some places cachers may be limited in the amount of caches near their home and locationless caches still allow them to participate until the cache count climbs within their 100 mile circle. I understand it is a burden on the people who approve the caches and I also understand the loathing that some cachers hold for these type but there still are people who like them and I hope that they won't be canceled permently. Boy this fence is hard on the butt.... We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  4. After a quick search I found this http://pw1.netcom.com/~rickn/gps/GPSindex.htm It appears that the unit will do UTM, you might want to try and change the settings to read position in UTM. We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  5. Well I have done the very thing you've asked. On one ocasion, it was to pick up a signature item of a local area cacher and the other was to pick up a TB. In both cases I added other items to my cache and of course I did this by leaving a 'NOTE' on the cache page to let others know that that item has been removed, I don't have a problem with it but I am interested in the general comments from other cachers. We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  6. Hey Coast3, you need to use that O2 mask a little more often when your up flyin' those aeroplanes.. He wasn't geocaching, he was letter boxing We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  7. We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  8. quote:OK. If you logged a DNF and then went back later and found it, would you delete your DNF log? I don't because it all makes up your geocaching history. I admit that I failed, can't change it, will fail again, didn't hurt the first time, probably won't hurt then either.. Also, some DNF's make just as interesting log entry as Finds do. This is a local cache that has a few DNF's included one from us, makes for a good read. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=27652 We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  9. I, like adrianjohn, post DNFs. I cannot for the life of me figure out when people make a post like this 'well second time here and we found it' They won't post a DNF but admit that it took two trys to get it. things that make you go HHMMMM. It also serves to keep the cache owner aware of the state of his/hers cache. bcrockcrawler We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  10. If you all get tired of being boarded by the crew, you can keel haul 'em all and ship 'em back up north of the 49th. We miss them up here. Hey Capt'n, my mirror broke on the Bronco, I need a new sticker. We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  11. Yep, pretty bad when you pass up a weekend of no kids to execise outside, with your clothes on and everything. But we can stop anytime. No really, I mean it... just watch me, Look I'm not joking.... dadgum, is that some tupperware over behind that rock???? OK I'll quit after THIS one.... STOP LAUGHING!!!! We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  12. Jomarac5 posted quote: You really don't get it do you? Unfortunately I do get it...... I bet there are a few people that have posted here that are feelin' pretty stoopid right about now, huh? Curious George posted quote: The last week has been tough on a lot of people - let's all try to put it behind us and move on. We are all friends playing the same game, it should stay that way! Easy for you to say now that you have your bike back. There were things said here, in private e-mails, and in person that stepped on a lot of toes and in one case, dang near crushed them. I believe some public apologies are in order, I don't expect them mind you, but they are in order. In my case, it will be some time before all the water is under the bridge on this. We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  13. Seems to me that Vancouver Island has now turned into one big school yard. The kid with the biggest and best ball has decided to go home with his ball and now the rest of the children are fighting. We are now seeing bullys and gangs forming wanting to beat up someone or something. As everybody says, it's just a game folks. I promise to drag out my inner child, kick it in the butt and play nice. Will anyone else make that promise? We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......

  15. Well our names aren't that big of a stretch. *bcrockcrawler* rock crawling is a term used when four wheeling over very rocky terrain like the Rubicon and I've been wheeling for 25 years, bc comes from the province I live in. *xstitcher* for my wife who loves crafts *BMXer* for my son who started racing bmx bike in 2002 We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  16. During this slight pause in preparing for Christmas, we would like to wish all the geocachers in Canada a warm and very Merry Christmas. Although we have only been actively participating in this great pastime for 6 months, we have already met and become friends with some truly good people. We look forward to the New Year with anticipation of meeting more cachers, visiting places that we would have never gone if it were not for this game, and of course, finding more caches. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  17. In most cases, pepper spray will not affect a dog other then to make it sneeze or make it more upset. That's why the police have no qualms about using spray even with K9 units present. When a dog backs off from the spray it is usually because it is unfamilar with the stuff not because it is bothered by it. Having said that, I would still have it ready if the treking pole didn't stop the charge. We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  18. You know mariner, all things happen for a reason and after I saw the results your GPSr was giving us at Daggs cache a couple of weekends ago, it was fate that made it go missing. It sure wasn't working well out there. LOL I smell upgrade, not sure if that would help. But it makes the budget look justified. We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  19. quote:Originally posted by MarinerBC:When I found out, I think I said, "Oh golly gee, darn." Yah, I'm sitckin' to that. That's my story. Hhhmmmmmm....... don't tell me, Howie Meeker was there with a telestrator, EH? We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  20. I have read several posts here and have seen the comments posted on the cache pages by finders as well as the person or persons who have hidden these caches. I have also discussed this subject amongst friends who geocache. I do not think that any of the persons making comments here are whiners or whimpers. This is a public forum and as such, sometimes a debate may start on a particular subject. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and this is the place to express them. I, like marinerBC and others, have questions about these caches and the effect they have on geocaching and cachers in general. Expressing these opinions are not in anyway meant to insult the team placing them or the cachers finding them. So *beating* on anyone who may raise points that do not sit well with anyone involved is just a waste of cyberspace. Having said that, I do feel a rebuttal is in order. In my case, I feel these opinions are meant to make the parties involved think about the activity. In recent days it appears that this may be occurring and that a sense of *fair play* may be starting to take hold around some of these caches. Most of the comments that are used to justify these caches, such as quote:...they take me to places I wouldn't have gone to...and I have made new friends.... really applies to all caches. I am sure that anyone who has been involved in this game for any length of time has been taken to places they would have never gone to if it were not for a little tupperware container being placed there and you have probably met other cachers along the way. I've seen more places on this Island because of geocaching for the first time then I can count, and I have lived here for most of my life. I have also met several very nice people who geocache and some of them are pursuing these caches. quote:If you leave a trade item, make sure it is of equal or greater value than what you take. This is commonly called, trading down, and is a common courtesy. If you can't get a a buck more for your item at a garage sale, then it is junk so please don't leave it in a cache. This quote, seems to me to actually go against this type of cache because how can you make a trade with something of equal value when your getting $1000 cash. If you were really truthful, to a large extent it is about the money. For some people this is not a problem, for others,it makes them think about how they participate in the game. If I had the apparently deep pockets like the Team has, I might even be doing something similar. But in several ways though, geocaching can be quite competitive if you are so inclined, from trying to be a *first finder* to number of finds and so on. These caches have only made this more so. I and others are not saying that these caches shouldn't be allowed, we are just stating that from our observations the game has changed and some thought should be given to where this is going. It has nothing to do with *not liking or liking* them and telling us just choose to *Not Do Them* is like saying keep quiet, go away. Some of the really good things that these caches do bring to the game is that it has made players learn new techniques and terminology. I have even learned a few things. This is something that will benefit the game as a whole and it has made me think of including some different ways of getting to future caches that I am planning. And if the Team wants to get involved with our next Island Geo Event, I am sure that The Capt'n, Dagg and myself would welcome them. I wonder if they'll come incognito, by way of the Bucket cache. (Inside Nanaimo cache joke...) We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl...... [This message was edited by bcrockcrawler, xstitcher, & BMXer on November 23, 2002 at 11:00 PM.]
  21. There are a few cases in the States were they have something like this. The best one I know of is the 'I Hate I-5' series of caches that run from California to Washington. They all are near or at rest stops along the Highway. We could start a series like that with a common name and then a number for example. We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  22. I agree, a friend of mine who caches told me about the 'Find 10, Hide 1' rule of thumb and both his family and mine have taken that to heart. One thing to keep in mind though, is that you should find a few before you decide to hide some. I have found that in a few cases, the cachers that hide something after only one or two finds misses the mark without the experience of seeing how really good cachers find areas to hide caches in or develop really good multi caches. Another thing to consider too is that any caches you hide you must maintain. And with the weather we have up here, that will be a real job. You should also consider archiving caches to move them from an area so that the area can recover and so there is still a challenge to find it. I have been on a few caches where once you got close it was very obvious where it was. But getting back to the subject, yes more of us should be hiding caches. It is nice to see that here on Vancouver Island, that seems to be the case. We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  23. It's up on the list now, I saw it about 2 hours ago on the British Coulumbia listing page. We live on a rock, ergo we rockcrawl.......
  24. I called Rathtrevor at lunch, they have some small group sites available. min 5 groups of 4 people, (20) to max 7 groups of 4 or 10 groups of 4 (28 to 40)...just another option. There are other Provincial parks and even some private ones? I live on a rock, ergo I rockcrawl.......
  25. You can count on us........ I live on a rock, ergo I rockcrawl.......
