    How?

Sometimes it's by myself and others it's with the wife. Just don't tell my girlfriend
  2. There are some caches within a short walk of the Dinosaur. Jerry and the Abolitionists (GC420B) is one you might want to make sure you check out. Take some pics and the page notes w/you as you need to email the CO with answers to 3 questions. There are plenty of other history related ones in the area also. Hope this helped some. Dave
  3. 22% for first 100. Our first 2 finds are archived and the others are scattered out pretty evenly. Have not been caching quite 4 years yet but it's about 16%. A couple preloaded caches were archived before we got there and did not know it until after we had looked for them. Felt a lttle foolish but learned a pretty good lesson.
  4. On one of our first caching attempts a couple of years ago, I exchanged words with a individual a regarding trash clean up. The wife and I were just about to get in the truck at a town park when we saw 2 "young ladies" walking a dog who stopped to leave a "calling card." It's clearly posted all over the park about cleaning up these "messages", so when they kept walking I decided to say something. When they got about 20 feet away from the "card", I hollered after them that I appreciated the good job they did of cleaning up after the dog. The "young lady" who held the leash turned and screamed they were planning on picking it up on the way back and kept on walking away. I said they are full of "calling cards" to the wife and away we went. There were about 15 other people around so maybe peer pressure got to them later. So down the road we went to a fishing site with 2 or 3 caches in and around it. Guess who pulled in while we were out and about! They quickly got in the car and left with out saying a word. Like WVangler, I am involved with our local TU chapter and we have an Earthday cleanup event at a local stream. We contact some local high schools to get kids who need community service hours for their graduation. It's mandatory for 8 hours not punishment. After the morning cleanup, we do a little BBQ and sign off 4 hours for them. These kids rock!!! Hard working, polite, funny and smart also. It's usually a science class or outdoors club and a teacher or 2 and some adult chaperones. One year, one busdriver even came and helped out with everything. We have found tires, bicycle frames, a old(1950's) car, old stoves, clothes washer, plenty of bottles, cans and other similiar items. It amounts to about a ton or so of trash each year. The car and appliances were left alone since they are at the bottom of a big drop off and no heavy equipment was around to get it out.
  5. Your car gps is center mounted on the windshield, and the 60csx is mounted on the driverside near the door for quick exits. And you drive around the building twice (trying to avoid muggles) before giving up due to heavy traffic. GC12741 Do The Dunk and Dash 4 !!
  6. There has some problems for quite awhile with caches in your area. Mostly stolen and some vandalized but I had never heard of a mousetrap in one until now. Cachemaggots and what not are an unfortunate occurence. Several CO's by you got fed up and setup premium members only caches. I thought this dirtbag from there had pretty much moved on but who knows for sure. I have family out there and cache when possible so I try to keep up with things. I'd be interested in looking for this cache sometime, any chance you can post the info or email me. Hope it does not discourage your nephew. Lots of neat caches out there. Don't forget benchmarking too!
  7. My wifes stepfather got us both a nuvi 200 each. We had no idea that he was going to do that and we were totally blown away. Derf (Fred backwards) rocks! He's a good guy to us stepkids. He knows we cache and thought these might be able to help us out and be good for us on our other road trips as well. We are very happy with his choice.
  8. Up here in Syracuse, I have seen a couple of vehicles with different GC'ing stickers. True to form, I am always working and can't stop to chat with them.
  9. K is for Kansas (GCQ4W3) is a TB Hotel Eastbound between Rt 81 and 481 exits. Hop to It (GCG87P) is also Eastbound between exits 42 and 43. Safe Journey!
  10. Thanks for move and editing! I do appreciate it.
  11. I am not sure if this belongs here or another section. Please feel free to move accordingly. Last Sept. I retrieved a Canadian geocoin from a cache. I waited until the people who dropped it off to log it as so before I logged as retrieved. It took them about a month to do so. In the course of life and all its insanity, I lost the coin somewhere in my residence. I admit I was a schmuck and did not reply to an email from coin owners but I did want to wait until I found the coin since I knew it was somewhere in my home. To keep it short....I finally found the coin and was able to get it to a TB Hotel today. My apologies to AJR77 regarding Canadian geocoin. It is back on the road and hopefully retrieved to go North soon. It is in K is Kansas (GCQ4W3) on the NY Thruway Eastbound Dewitt service area. Again, I apologize for my screw up with this situation. Dave
  12. What a . I would seriously consider avoiding this guys caches from now on. Sounds like he has control issues.
  13. You might want to remind your brother there are several caches over in the Stony Pond area where people like to go have parties on occasion. Nice place to visit especially now that fall is close at hand. There are even campsites but I am not sure of the resevation policy for them.
  14. So far I have only met a snake once. It was down by a lake and I saw it in plenty of time. I usually see them more when I go out fishing. Pretty sure it's a watersnake. It was kind enough to pose for this before leaving.
  15. I have not heard anything from them either. Nice people!
  16. Do you still have Mapsource Topo CD still handy? If so how much? Message sent. Dave
