Like yourself, we are very new to Geocaching as well. We initially used an iPhone to cache and it worked very well. Of course, it wasn't great under trees and did send us here, there and everywhere on a couple of occasions, but generally did the job very well. The best thing about it is definitely the fact that you can find and do a cache wherever you are without needing anything other piece of equipment. However, my partner got the Garmin eTrex H for Christmas and after having used it on about 8 or so caches over the past couple of days we absolutely love it! It's so much more robust, weather-proof and more accurate than the iPhone. We will definitely keep using the iPhone, but probably as more of a backup to the Garmin i.e. when we spontaneously want to find a cache or if we need to double check logs/descriptions/hints etc. Either way, both are great devices!

This topic has been very interesting. We use an iPhone as we don't yet have a GPS unit (we are in the process of getting one). The iPhone is so useful; it usually takes us straight-ish to the correct place and after a bit of scrabbling around we find the cache. The best bit is that we can log that we have found it straight away. Generally we will write a short log for our own benefit so we can save it and move on. After doing this for the day's finds we write longer logs and then post them. Occasionally I can see how just posting 'TFTC' is easier, but after reading the comment here, personally I will always do my best to post a little more than that. If it were my cache I would love people to put as much information down as possible.

Just treat it like any other swap item in the cache - If you want it then just "trade up or even" for it. MrsB Thanks Being newbies it's good to know the etiquette! So far we haven't put anything into the caches, but we haven't taken anything out either.

We're very new to this - when you find a signature item in a cache do you leave it in there or take it with you to keep? Just want to make sure we are doing this correctly!

Very new to Geocaching but have to say (after having only found 16 Caches so far) we love the Nanos! Found a great one at Barnstaple Train Station the other day which had us stumped for ages, not to mention the added irritation of muggles. Eventually found and we both thought it was a very sneaky hide. Loved it!
