  1. Ticks make me want to only find guardrail and lamp post micros! Ahhhhhh!! (okay..not really, but I really really hate ticks!!)
  2. I've never seen the statue, or even heard of this case before today, but I will post the picture and link on a few PA message boards that I hang out at. Maybe...just maybe someone will have some input!
  3. We just passed on a cache in NC last week that had logs from two differant cachers stating that there were black widow spiders right literally at the cache. THEY STILL GOT THE FIND!! YUCK! ***shudder** I was bitten by a spider, twice, about two years ago (not caching though) and my husband got into chiggers about a week later. (cachig that time) My daughter has had two tics imbedded in her..so far she has been lucky and no "bullseye" (I knew right away looking at that first pic what it was going to end up being!) Poison ivy we have dealt with on a reg. basis..luckily we are learning to look better for it, and shower in COLD water if we get into it by accident. (hot water will open your pours and allow the oil in) I read logs now, and watch for warnings of things like that...I love to cache, but don't want to put my kids in harms way. Now if it was just me...ya never know what I would do!
  4. I had a TB once that had someone that would make a donation to their local shelter for every picture that was posted of that bug at ANY shelter.
  5. I've done many in the various gamelands in the state, but there is none hidden in the tract near our house. I was wondering if I have to get permission from DCNR to hide one there.
  6. We will only have 2 days, and not all of that for caching..so what do you sugget? I saw there is one at a horse ring..my daughter will like that, and we have tentative plans to go to the zoo in Ashboro, and there are a few real close there. I think we will at one point go to the Pinhurst County Club/Resort...are there any on there or close? Thanks for any help and tips!
  7. Those keychains are made by "PA - Drifter" They are his sig item. He is a steel worker and hand makes them himself. They are awesome. He places one at each cache he visits, and his cache count is the number you found. His first 100 just said Pennsylvania Geocacher on rectangle piece of stainless, but his new style for 101+ says the same thing, but is shaped like the State. Here is his profile that also has pics of his keychains. http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=67...fa-34de52992e98 HEY! I have one of those too..found in a cache. I keep my soccer shed keys on it!
  8. Parking cords or a parking "hint" is a good idea. We did a few this weekend on private property..a few right in people's yards, and we always wondered if we were in the right driveway. I liked the one that said something like "only park in the driveway with a mailbox number of 567" (or whateve the number was) One we did we were actually in the wrong driveway, hence in someone else's yard...w/o permission.
  9. What should I do when I go to a cache that is rated a 1, or says right in the description that it is wheelchair accessable, and really isn't? I have done a few that are like the above poster say..over the curb...way down low under a pair of steps (where I, not in a wheelchair, had to get down on my belly to get) etc? should I e-mail the reviewer..leave a note on the page (sooner or later they are bumped down) e-mail the owner? I always hated to seem like a trouble maker, so I have just let it go.
  10. I've had three in the last week or so that I didn't come up with...sometimes I log as a DNF, others I post a note..depends on what was going on. Example..one I got to or close to GZ>.could not find the cache...that one I took as a DNF...even though it WAS a busy cache..and now no one has logged for almost 3 weeks. I e-mailed the owner telling where I went for GZ, so they knew if I was in the right area...if it needs checked..or if i was waay off and to wait and see if someone else pulls it up. No answer from that one. Another we went to in flip flops..cat. 3 terrain...our bad...looked quick and decided to come back later in shoes. Didn't log anything there, didn't want to make people think it was harder then it is...or make the cache owner think there was a problem. Actually went back a week later..but ended up not getting there until after dark...that didn't work for us with no min. flashlights..so again..I didn't log anything...plan to go back..figure the problem is a glitch and not drastic. (thugh I don't remember..I might have posted a funny story of how I hear this cache laughing at us everytime we drive by it now...lol..but then again...I might have posted that on another forum talking about that same cache) Third one was a multi/puzzle that we couldn't do..only because we were supposed to get a word off a memorial...I couldn't find the memorial..so I didn't take a DNF..but instead, left a note that I thought the memorial was missing, and e-mailed the owner how-where etc we looked for the memorial. He e-mailed me back telling me where it was...we went again..and it was REALLY gone. When I got back home to e-mail him again (we were gone for a few days w/o computor) I saw that while we were gone he went and checked it..and then disabled the cache. Another one, we couldn't find..eventhough the hint told us EXACTLY where it was...we found what was for sure the "hollow stump" but it was empty...high muggle area..so we assumed it was gone. I don't count that as a dnf if it is really not there in the first place...so again...I posted a note telling the owner that I found the spot and it is gone...also e-mailed them where I looked...BUT never herad back form that one....others have logged dnf's for it..but it hasn't been checked or a note made of any work by the owner. So sometimes, for us, a note works better then a dnf.
  11. another wife chiming in here. I started us geocaching..bought the gps...plot out all the cache-runs, map out the course, stock the swag box, planned, did up and hid all our hides, and even hosted an event. when HE doesn't have to work, I will let him drive us to the days or weeks caches...and if he is really really good, I will let him borrow my gps when he goes hunting..BUT only if I am not planning on using it! lol (and since I don't work..I do let him pay for the swag too..lucky guy that he is!!)
  12. Ahhh...you know me/us already....lol I had my daughter's friend with us today..and they have cached a few times..I think they had 6 to date..by the time I sent her home, she had 12 more...though we only got 3 new ones.
  13. I just picked up an unactivated coin today too. BUT if there is no note on it..how can we know to trade even for it?? I feel bad, I traded up for the kids stuff they took..actually dropped money into the cache..BUT thought this was a TB..so I didn't trade for it. Oh well..what can ya do??
  14. I'm trying to up-grade my membership atm... It expired in May, and I knew we wouldn't be doing much caching so I waited until now to do it..BUT now when I try to up-grade it is making it retro-active from when it expired, and instead of giving me a year from today..it is making it expire in may instead! Help! I can't even find a phone number to call and try to do this over the phone.
  15. I had a themed cache..."Smashed Penny For Your thoughts" and I requested trade items to be those pennies that you smash in the machines at theme parks and tourists spots. We had a few neat trades, and then a muggle took it and started their own collection!! I'm going to re-start it in another place, and make the FTF prize one of the collecotrs books for storing the pennies.
  16. follow the above link and it is easy. We just changed our name, and they rolled everything over into our new name for us. First do a search for the new name you want, to make sure no one has it yet. I was told you cannot move your account to a new name that starts with a literal number or symbol because of a glitch in the system. ( So we had to use the word Four instead of the actual number 4) Other then that,it was simple, as long as your currant e-mail is the one you signed up at this sight wiht, because your request has to come from that e-mail. (if you changed your e-mail recently, just update your account) You put in the request, and they do all the work for you!
  17. I guess I am spoiled by my small town in PA. They mayor not only gave me permission to place caches, but also gave me ideas of places I hadn't thought of. On top of that, he is a part owner of a camp w/property in another area, and in getting permission from theother owners, and has asked us to put a cache on their private property!!
  18. Parker Dam State Park and Black Moshannon/S.B. Elliot State Park both have caches hidden by ( I think), park rangers.
  19. I think I have you all beat on this one.. while changing our cache container to an ammo can, some people were coming up the trail...they seemed like cachers to us..though when they saw us they veered off another direction. We hollered to them and had a conversation from a ways away..here they were going to place on in this spot, and we beat them by a week or so. We traded geocaching names and went on our way. Well, I figured I had herd wrong, because the one cacher used my maiden name or something like it as his handle...Its not a common name, so I figured I had heard wrong. I waited until he logged, and looked him up through his profile etc, and figured out that he was a son of one of my cousins, though we had never met because of bad blood between his mother and father. it was kind of funny...the things you find at caches!! lol
  20. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How do I get my TB back in action? Our "forever Steeler Fans" TB was picked up on 4-18-07 (!!!!!) and hasn't been dropped off since..I have e-mailed the holder/taker and I get no reply. This cacher has done a total of 5 caches...picked my TB up on I think his third. Joined geocaching.com on the same date, and hasn't been back to the sight since 4-27-07. This person is listed as a student at TAHS..i am assuming from his cache logs and areas it is a HS in the State College, PA, area. To me it sounds like someone that got excited to do this and then lost interest and is still holding my bug. I even offered to have him mail it back to me if he doesn't want to find a cache..but still no answer. He cached with a friend who was also new...same stats and dates...and he (she?) seems to have lost interest too. Do I just write it off as a lost bug? or do I hunt him down and break his knee caps?? can I list his user name here to see if anyone knows him and can break his knee caps for me?? or maybe just get him to drop it somwhere??
  21. though it is too late for he orig. poster as his trip is done, bor future use or anyone else, I've done a few differant things for out of state trips that seem to help. Once you find one cache in the zip code area, click into the profiles of some of the finders..if they happen to be locals, alot of times you can just see what ones they have done in the same area. also check on the right hand side of the cache page and see if anyone has used this cache in a list of any sort...sometimes cachers make a list of the caches in a certain area....this was a big help when we went to the OBX...there were lists of ones out on the banks that sorted them out from the mainland ones for us.
  22. I just had someone last week e-mail me about a hide not published yet...not just telling me the cords...but telling me EXACTLY where it was place. I still haven't gone to get it..the fun isn't in that one. sooner or later I'll get it on my way by, but I'll let my kids find it for us.
  23. I/we are going to be inPhillipsburg this weekend for a few hours, and would like to hop over the county line to Centre county to log a find there since we don't have any for that county yet....but it would have to be an easy cache and dash as we will be on the move. I can't seem to pull anything up..can anyon point me in the right direction with the name or a link to a cache? also anything easy in Phillipsburg to grab on the run? It's in clearfiled county and we already have many there..but will take one or two easy ones if we can get them quick. Thanks also..does anyone know where the kids soccer fields are in Philipsburg? Not the school league, but the regular recreational league? Hopefully we get directions from the coach tonight (I hoped to get them earlier to plot and plan our trip..lol)
  24. Thanks a bunch! I book-marked it and will dig through my caches and start a plan. Too funny though, i was reading the rules..got to number five ...thought..???... went to number 6, then back and re-read 5...then read 7 then back to 5 again...thinking "what in the world?? a HAMSTER??" Oh man...got me on that one! I read number 5 a bunch of times trying to figure out what in the world I had to do with the hamster...lol
  25. can someone post me a link to it..I can't seem to find it or the details, but have heard/seen it discussed..thanks
