  1. It isn't that you don't like beer... you just haven't found a beer that you like yet Maybe Beerman-qc could provide you with some samples -Mike (a fellow homebrewer) Not So Lost Puppies
  2. http://www.jpscorner.com/ is one source for coin holders that I've seen mentioned before (and who I used recently)
  3. Thanks for the offer for flips Team LightningBugs What do you think about this? http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=272050 it is in a coin slab from (see display items) http://www.jpscorner.com/ unfortunately they are a little thin for the WI coin, I haven't asked if they offer one for thicker coins like they do the air-tites. and they are abit costly, but if it helps the coins travel further maybe worth it? I like that there is a space to put tags on both sides of it.
  4. I also have a couple coins that I will be releasing this weekend. Have one already activated and packaged up for travel http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=272050
  5. How is one to suppose to know what is considered an equitable trade for a nonactivated or untrackable coin sitting in a cache? What about those cachers who don't visit these forums to even know that an indydiver coin is a rare find? How is such an item in a cache any different from someones wooden nickel sig item? or elgecko's token/coin sig item. Is a coin from a batch of 5000 worth less in cache trade than one from a batch of 200? Aren't they both coins? Aren't they roughly the same value if I tried to sell them on the street to a non-cacher? If I drop in a Moun10bike coin can I then take everything else that is in the cache? I traded up. I think coins, unless labelled as travellers or FTF prizes, should be considered regular, but slightly more valuable around $5, trade items.
  6. As I am going to be releasing some coins, I would also like to know how they were 'packaged' for travel. I have seen some that were just in a baggie with a slip of paper, I can imagine that it wouldn't take long for the bag to break, then maybe a newer cacher wouldn't know it is a traveller?
  7. I would love to have one of these, and also be a willing placer of some into caches in Wisconsin. Where we now have plenty of snow for Santa's sleigh
  8. I found this for circle cutting: http://www.stuff4scrapbooking.com/circle-s...o2ek-p-979.html I'm sure it is available at other places as well.
  9. Wisconsin 2005 - 1450 minted (afew bad ones in that count)
  10. please add me to the waitlist for one tornado to go with my others. Thank you
  11. Did I miss the thread where it said how many were minted?
  12. another thought on this.... I know ebay allows the cancelling of auctions in certain circumstances. they seem to negate the 'first sale' doctrine of copyright in many cases, so maybe that is an option here as well?? The creator of the coin is still the holder of the copyright and possibly could stop a sale?? Maybe all coins need a small license agreement etched on them that the creator holds all sale rights?
  13. Very well put Lemon Fresh Dog, trackable geocoins generate alot of revenue that really doesn't have any costs associated with it. yes databases cost money, but it doesn't not cost anywhere near as much as the $1.50 per coin for the processing and storage of the transaction. I think your 90% is a much closer number. I'm sure they can run a report that would show how many of their tracking numbers have not been activated. How many of you collectors out there activate your primary collection coins? I can see where many would buy 3 of them... one to keep unactivated, one to activate for the icon or for grabs at events or travel logs, and the 3rd unactivated for trade. If you trade for a coin and therefore only have one of them, do you activate it? -Mike Not So Lost Puppies
  14. what it is with all the coins getting stolen anyway? Are the ones being taken well marked as a travelling coin? Maybe it is a regional thing, I have helped several coins move and never once thought of keeping it. My cache souvenir "box" is a folder of photos on my computer, I take a picture of the TBs and Coins that I pick up and move as a way to "keep" the item. So far, every TB and Coin that I've help move has been picked up and logged by another cacher, a couple even completed their goals. I will also be sending out some of the coins I've purchased on missions, and placing some unactivated as FTF prizes. -Mike Not So Lost Puppies
  15. You can still get EU coins: http://www.usageocoins.com/index.htm click on one of the new store links. but UK is all sold out, but I will also have extra available for trade when they ship.
  16. Is this going on the honor system? will you check logs to see if someone picks up the coin, or reports there isn't one there? I know some people are so fanatical about getting new coins that they may fake the release just to get an entry to win yours. Also, must it be a purchased type coin? or do coin type sig items count, such as ones we have just created using the shrinkydink type plastic sheets, they aren't much different from the wooden nickels.
  17. Is this limited to one entry per person, or are multiple coin drops counted up to be multiple entries? If I place 5 coins into caches, is that 5 entries?
  18. A big THANK YOU to all those involved in creating and running this quest. We had a good time completing this quest. There are a whole lot of questers(?) waiting for an event, we jumped from 124 to get coin #88. Looks like it will be a big race to the finish when the events occur, I'm glad we took our close to 400mile (round trip) trip to Eau Claire WI to attend the event there on the 19th. That also got us our Cave, Micro, and Dog caches that day after the event. Looks like we were also part of getting another WI player into the game from that event. Go Yuppers!!! Special thanks to BNB, White Pine, and Zuma! for bringing us along to Jesus' Tomb (our cave cache entry) I would like to see a summary of states/countries/provinces/etc of the players. Both the winners as well as all those who didn't make it all the way in time. Looks like there should be at least 4 Wisconsin players getting coins. Mike Not So Lost Puppies
  19. Here in Wisconsin I have seen several coins in caches, and moved several of them. Granted they were USA geocoins in most cases, but one was a MI that is has been pulled back by its owner and carried by them now. I think it is a shame that the coin craze has gotten to the point were people will steal travelling coins to keep for themselves, but then I've read it also happens to regular TBs. I know that some of the ones I've come across do not have much information about them. I also don't understand why 'trackable at GC' makes a coin more valuable for trade or auction when it isn't going to be activated or put out in caches. Ok, so maybe it is $1.50 more valuable since thats what the tracking cost is. Anyone have any idea how many Non-Cachers are buying up the coins from e-bay? I have only been geocaching for about 6 months, and just started buying coins in the last month or so. my interest in coins are for ones that have relevance to us. Such as the Canine Cacher coins, and coins for states we have been cached in. I have ordered extras of the coins I buy so that I can trade for relevant ones that I may miss by not living on the forums here. I've also bought them from states I haven't been to yet for the similar reasons. I do have plans to send some out into the wild, I'm currently trying to figure out a nice travel case for them so that they wouldn't get as easily seperated from their goal sheet and then stolen. What about PC coins that you don't make a limited run on, and as part of the tags you list how someone can buy one? Just some thoughts... -Mike Not So Lost Puppies
  20. I agree with the too many coins just for coins sake (or someone trying to make some $ because of the craze) Personally I'm only interested in State coins for our visits there (getting some we haven't been to for use in trading for others we have been to and in anticpation of caching there) and then some others that have some relevance for us. The caninecachers coin for example. when it comes to other personal coins, I'm not really interested unless I've met the cacher. But that is just me, I'm here for the caching, not the coins. The coins are just some extra frills. There is one current exception the personal coins... I am participating in the coin quest because I think that is a innovative way to distribute the coins to cachers. -Mike Not So Lost Puppies
  21. I think that alot of people forget that not every cacher reads these threads every five minutes. There are many cachers that aren't that fixated on geocoins, but may have an interest in having their own organizations coin to send out into the world. I see nothing wrong with your plan as it is. Of course those looking to make some money selling them on e-bay wouldn't agree as this gives alot more people a chance to buy their own direct. It also may not be as good a trading coin because of that also. I'm glad you are giving such a long time for people to buy into the coin, maybe it will encourage others to do the same and not make them only for those that continually monitor this forum. If you miss a day here you often completely miss a chance at a coin these days.
  22. Another question: for the Dog cache, what qualifies as being owned/co-owned by a dog? if the cacher that placed it caches with their dog? if its has Dog items, does it need to list that in the description? What about ones inside dog parks? ie: off-leash exercise areas? thanks, Mike Not So Lost Puppies
  23. Just found this and registered for it, I know I'm already quite abit behind since others are just waiting their 24hrs for each one found. my question(s), for the move a TB: must the TB be picked up as part of this, or can it be one that was picked up before the 12th? must it be a TB that you haven't possesed before? must it be someone elses TB? Maybe that would be a good task for the next quest? release a TB or a trackable coin? Thanks for the Quest -Mike Not So Lost Puppies
  24. We vote for the 'off-leash dog park/exercise area' category also. We like to travel with our dog, as do many others we know, and it would nice to have a place to get a listing of them. It is often difficult to find them with online searches. It should be findable by several search terms, such as 'dog park' 'off leash' 'dog excercise' etc. since different regions know them by different terms. Will the search feature let us search on just Dog? the forum search does not allow 3 letter word searches. Mike, Candi and geo-pup Midnight
