  1. Guess the system is just having teething problems and I should be more patient. After 4 more redirects, I got in and accessed the cache site.. TerryV6
  2. Now with the updates, I can no longer seek a cache. I get: "You've been redirected to this page because the site has noticed some unusual activity. You may start using the site after one minute has passed and you have shown that you are human." I am not using any automated software or at least haven't changed anything in the last 6 months. Everything worked fine before... TerryV6
  3. I probably saw you there but for me, everyone was a new face. It was interesting to put faces to the names... TerryV6
  4. 80 degrees.... that winter sounds brutal...
  5. I actually have an option on the gps to connect to the computer as: a gps, internal memory, or sd card.. Once I choose one of the last two options, it pops up as an external device on my computer.. Then I can copy the file.. TerryV6
  6. One thing I found out is that CR and Topo 9 don't play well together.... They also don't like it if you put the gpx files manually on the card.. Gsak does seem to have a learning curve. As a relative newcomer to the activity, I am looking for a quick plug and go.... TerryV6 ps. Actually, learning all of this stuff is sort of like learning to drive a car if you had no instructions.. Lets see.. I will put this knob here (in reverse)... and then find youself backing up into the house.
  7. So far, the easiest and most reliable way for me is the explorer method also. GC sends me the .gpx file, I mount my card as a device and copy the file over to the card. TerryV6
  8. Is it user friendly? We newbies want to know...
  9. I have tried Topo 9, CR2 and manually loading PQs to the sd card. They all work. I would like to know how you load your PQs to your gps and why... TerryV6
  10. Well today at least, it will not be spent geocaching.. I will be outside shortly to move the wonderful white stuff off the drive and sidewalks... TerryV6
  11. It means "available in winter." Thanks...
  12. I am just imagining a "tree cache" with the tree limbs laden with snow....
  13. Well, our first snowfall resulted in 3 inches. Tomorrow we are supposed to get 7 more. I don't suppose that is as much of a problem in Texas...
  14. "Not sure what you mean. There IS a winter attribute you can filter your PQ by." My mistake. I am new at PQs and this completely slipped by me. Thanks... TerryV6
  15. Another thing is the shortness of the days. It gets dark here by 4pm and since work doesn't allow us out until then, that limits us to weekends..
  16. Well, I looked outside and saw that we got our first blanket of snow. I just started caching in the fall. I am wondering how many people continue into the winter time. I don't see anything on the search page if you want to filter for "winter friendly" sites. Are we down and out until Spring.? TerryV6
  17. Maybe the confusion resulted because of where they had to go to register. I got a 30 day free membership cause I bought a Delorme pn60. I tried to register at the main site (without reading the gift card <G>) and it said nothing doing. Then on the bottom of the card I noticed that it said I was to register at geocaching.com/delorme. Then it was straight forward... TerryV6
  18. Thanks, that worked... I have been trying to figure that one out all afternoon...
  19. I am using Ver. 2.0..... Does anyone have the delete queries option.? Otherwise, I can take the card out of the gps, put it in a card reader and delete the gpx file and I would be good to go right? (and only that one file I hope...)
  20. I am currently using Cache Register. I watched a Cache Register Demonstration on Youtube. The demo had an option available in the program to be able to delete queries. Mine does not have that option. Maybe I have an older version perhaps? TerryV6
  21. I had a etrex h and now a pn60. I am a newbie as well and so far haven't gone deep offroad with either. I use mine strictly for geocaching too. I haven't really used the electronic compass on th '60. The directional arrow only points to the cache if you are moving though. That really isn't a problem and you get used to it. With my very limited experience, I haven't really used the electronic compass much. If its a matter of a few extra bucks though, you might add it as a feature. TerryV6
  22. What is the best way to delete queries from the sd card on a PN60? TerryV6
  23. Well today I upgraded to premium membership and headed over to the member area to check PQs. I put in some parameters.. local area code, caches not found, 5 mile radius, and difficulty/terrain. I submitted this and got a download notification. I have Topo 9 installed, stumbled around until I figured out how to transfer the query to the gps. That worked okay. Then I saw info on Cache register and tried that instead. That seemed a bit more intuitive and I transferred another query to pn60. I went to my gps, found the file menu, and saw that both queries were indeed there.... I guess I'll have to dive into the topo 9 manual..... Also have to get a bigger sd card (only have a 2gig installed).. TerryV6
  24. We both appreciate the offer. I am sure that when I sign up for premium membership, I will have a few questions... TerryV6
  25. Almost all units with a electronic compass you have to recalibrate the compass when you change batteries. You lose nothing and it takes a minute to do. I see you are from Wisconsin if you have problems you can e-mail me and I will try and help. I have a PN-40 and -60 and love them. Well, I haven't had much luck yet with the compass calibration. I keep getting a "retry".. But that did not stop me from using the unit. We found seven caches today and the device seems to be spot on. We only had one problem and that was a user error. We forgot to switch it from "drive to" to "hike to" which gave us an inaccuracy reading to the cache. Once we made the change we found it right away.. I only loaded Wisconsin and Minnesota maps to the unit. I haven't tried the Topo 9 program or done any PQs yet, just the individual cache uploads. I know that there are features I will probably seldom use or not not at all. We are newbie geocachers and most of the caches have been within .4 miles from the car, so have not had to set routes or waypoints. I have to say I love the "Send to my GPS", though I am still tempted to print out the paper map... TerryV6 As you get older: it is one step forward and two steps back. Learn something new every day and forget two others.....
