  1. There was a new version a Geotoad released yesterday. It's got a lot of fixes, so it should fix your problem. Also, if you have windows, you don't need to separately install ruby. Try it out. The ability to search along a route is not in there per se, but you can search using multiple coordinates, chosen from your along route.
  2. Oh, well that explains why it wasn't working. Anyone know if there's plans to put it back, or has this been bit bucketed?

That link seems to have help for how to log on the forums. I'm more excited about the idea of having a URL as described above that logs me into the geocaching site. When I go type this in my browser, it just stays on "Loading" forever until it gives up.
  4. Help! I have a login question, pertaining to this relatively old thread. Hopefully someone will notice me down here As described in this thread, its possible to set up a bookmark that automatically logs in. However, I can't get it to work, even by typing it into the browser. I have tried every combination of argument that I have found, and have tried it on a variey of platforms and browsers. Is this still possible? Thanks.
  5. No, I think he meant something of value that you could leave in a cache that geocachers would look forward to -- a prize aimed at geocaching hobbyists, while at the same time helping the "cause". Currently, other than a GPS or batteries, there's not a lot that an (adult) cacher would be excited about finding that pertains to the sport. I think it's a good idea. I suppose geocoins or other merchandise falls under this category, but it doesn't entice people to become members. Is the one month subscription available as a gift certificate to leave for a finder? 6. In short, I was wondering what percentage of users cause what percentage of load on the servers? Also, would there be a load increase to adding a flag like &num=XX to pull down a larger .loc file? I should have just said that to start with Thanks, PTW
  7. I have a question for people that use features that are not available on the site, by saving the data and developing their own tools to meet their needs (i.e. route planning, multiple home-points ala GPXSpinner, imports to mapping software, or syncing with PDAs) without going the standard PQ -> GPX -> ? route. Assuming, that their bandwidth wouldn't be any greater than the casual user because they are seeing the same number of cache pages, just saving it for later (using geoclipper, good ole' Save as, or another web-capture tool like Plucker or AvantGo) is this use welcome? I have never read that people would be unwelcome to save their page views, but I get the impression from the general make-up of the site. For instance, a &num=50 flag on the search similar to Google would make it much easier to get a decent .loc file without having to merge 5 little ones, but I've always assumed GC.com didn't want people to be able to see that much information on their screen or they would save it. If you just save pages you'd look at anyway, is this OK? [Message has been edited for clarity] [This message was edited by PointingTheWay on July 08, 2003 at 09:04 AM.]
  8. As follow-up, I'm still not sure why the logs got lost, but Jeremy was kind enough to restore them to my account. Thanks to all for the suggestions -- I *will* be keeping a backup for when the weird stuff happens.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Mopar:... it really sounds like someone (kids, perhaps?) had some "fun" with your account. No one has my password, and I've only used it on two computers that no one has access to. Interestingly enough, I noticed it midday yesterday. quote:BTW. Good place to mention that many of us keep some sort of backup just in case. I use a text document with all the log info. My GF keeps a scrapbook with the cache page, our logs, and any pics we took. Some others here keep things in a spreadsheet. Comes in handy at times like this. I thought of that later. Hindsight is 20/20. I'll start from here on out. Is there an easy way, or do I have to do it manually? Thanks.
  10. Sometime yesterday, about 10 of my logged caches lost the "logs". They no longer show up in my "caches you have found list" and the log entries are gone from the page. In addition, the watch list seems to have random caches added to it. Has anyone else experience this problem? I'm not sure what to do. Any advice?

  12. Wow, thanks. That was actually pretty easy. I owe you one. mC
  13. I'm heading over to Paris in a week or two, and was looking for the same thing. I did a google search for "Paris waypoint" and found these: http://www.swopnet.com/waypoints/gps/france5.html They appear to be in an OziExplorer format, so I will have to "decode" them into something useful, but if you beat me to it, let me know. mC
