  1. Even with that, a *lot* of them are faded for me, ones that I have not clicked on, ever. ...and it isn't just the Getting Started forum.
  2. How are you telling that they have been read? If its the faded icon, it just means that the topic isn't locked and hasn't had any new posts since the last time you visited the forum (iirc) - not that you've actually read those threads... When you post in the thread, the icon turns dark because there is a new post (yours)...
  3. Does the member agreement specifically state that you're getting exclusive access to both search and log MOCs? So far as I know, and truthfully I'm far to lazy to actually do the research, the member agreement lets you search for MOCs, the TOS for the caches prevents you from sharing the MOCs, but nothing contractual says that members are the only ones who can log the MOCs.

    Pq Question

It doesn't yield the same result. If the box is checked, you'll get *ONLY* MO caches. If the box is not checked, you'll get all caches. Oh, woe! I knew I should have tried it myself before posting that last part. I stand corrected.

    Pq Question

Unless neither he nor his family are computer-savvy enough to use the loophole... If the loophole were an out and out feature, and didn't require any url editing, that would be a different story... As it stands, it seems like he ought to be able to filter by that. Also, what is the point of the existing members only cache checkbox if it yeilds the same result whether checked or not? (edited for horrible apostrophe usage)
  6. Thanks Leprechauns... I've been using the term "booty nuggets" entirely wrong.
  7. I agree, logging a members-only cache by a non-premie should be fine; Its the cache listing, the coords, desc, and hint, which are members-only, not the physical cache itself. If you find it with a member or without, you should be able to log it, imho.
  8. What? Is there a thread or more info about this? You have no CITO events logged. Jamie I don't log event caches. Here's a link to the cache: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...f4-5b5653fda148 There were some birds nesting in the canyon below, which was closed. The area we were cleaning up was a viewpoint, several hundred feet above, which was *not* closed and was adjacent to a highway. The BLM folks apparently thought we were going to be cleaning out the canyon itself, despite the fact that we told them many times this was not the case. We even had a bird rehab expect dude on hand to make sure that no birds were disturbed. Edit: most of the controversy was documented in a thread on the old cogeo forums, which are archived and not accessible.
  9. Northern edge of Bend, Oregon on the way to OLD by logscaler
  10. North of Bend, Oregon looking for the right road in to a cache.
  11. We did a CITO event with some conflict from the managing agency (due to a misunderstanding). The following week, I went back to the area, and there is now a sign which says NO COLLECTION OF TRASH.
  12. It could work as an educational game... For example, it could be geocaching plus "collecting" various species of flowers, trees, animals. As you "hike in" to the geocache, you would be on the lookout for new bird calls, animal sightings, etc. And there would be some kind of logbook screen where you could review the things that you've found and the ones that you havn't. The cache at the end of the hike would give you a destination (much like it does in real life) so that you wouldn't just be wandering around aimlessly in some dorky hiking game. More advanced caches could use clues/codes based on animals/plants/etc that you've learned about during the other areas. Modern 3d engines could make this look pretty dang cool!
  13. Dont presume to dictate what I do. I will post to any thread I please. If you dont like it, you can <self moderated>. Yet you presume to tell CR what kind of threads he can post. Riiiight.
  14. locus lingua is good, then again I am a fan of the "language of location" slogan - very cool. But... "locus lingua", when run through my mind, makes me think of a considerate insectiod lover engaged in amourous activities...
  15. I make sure to slow down to at least 25mph before tossing my caches out the window. I have my GPS ready to mark the waypoint, and press the button at the same time as I toss.
  16. You're 119 years old?!?! But seriously, I poked around quickly and couldn't come up with his date of death, but I did find a record of that grave: http://userdb.rootsweb.com/cemeteries/cgi-...e&fname=Charles
  17. I second this request. I've started keeping track on my caching site of which of my finds have been archived, and this would make that process simpler.
  18. Is there a particular religion that doesn't want people to visit cemetaries?
  19. If you wanted only them to answe why didn't you just emailed it in? Because there are a lot of 3rd party programmers who frequent this forum, and I've been out of the loop for a while. I thought that perhaps some method had already been established for this, and I thought I could get a quicker response here rather than via e-mail.
  20. Yes. Are there any plans to accomodate signature item tracking sites in some fashion? I don't want to do anything that violates the TOS, but at the same time it would be nice to provide maps of signature item movement and mileage (although this does conflict with your travelbug business to some extent...) The issues as I last remember them: 1. Bogging down the server thru abusive data mining 2. Posting possibly stale cache co-ordinates off-site If something were worked up with TOS such as "you can do this as long as you don't actually show people the coordinates", that would be very fine with me. I only want them for plotting maps and calculating mileage.
  21. I hate that slogan. I used a seam puller to remove it from my geocaching hat. I need to order a new hat soon 'cause my old one shrunk in the wash (!!), but I'm reluctant to because of the stupid slogan.
  22. One of the local graveyard caches that I've visited actually introduced me to a very nice graveyard/park. It looks horrible and ugly from the nearby highway, but once you're down inside of it, its quite beautiful. A nice place to go for walks and reflect on life amongst the dead. Respect is entirely in the mind and actions of the person visiting. Will the forgotten dead really complain about something as innocent as a geocache, espescially if it brings people to read their headstones? Now, on a less serious note: how about a multicache in which you have coordinates engraved on your own headstone? You don't have to be dead first, iirc if you reserve a cemetary plot you can actually have your headstone placed prior to being interned.
  23. Here's a quick collection of some wildlife we've seen while out and about in Oregon (caching and camping): The bald eagle actually caught a fish right infront of us, but my camera wasn't fast enough to capture it. Time for a better one!
