  1. I thought it was the only way I could download multiple caches at once from the "seek a cache" results page. I don't see a .gpx option.
  2. I've been downloading pocket query .gpx files and uploading those to the gps. But for some reason when I try to open a .loc file in MapSource it doesn't want to open it. Gives me an "could not be imported" error. Any suggestions? I was able to open it in GSAK just fine but I really don't know how to just load the new .loc file to my GPS through GSAK.
  3. A couple weeks ago i loaded up our 60Csx with our pocket query waypoints. We are done with a lot of those waypoints now and I'd like to load a new pocket query onto the gps. How do I go about deleting all the waypoints loaded onto the gps? Is this what everyone else does? I'm not using the custom points of interest waypoints yet. Thanks, Brian
  4. Thanks for the replies. So tell me if I understand the typical use for GSAK: It allows you to use geocaching.com pocket queries in order to sort and update the data on your gpsr. That way the data on your gpsr is always up to date and sorted the way you like it. Basically the gpsr just becomes a tool to find the caches, not necessarily a long term data storage device. I guess you should update the gpsr before every caching trip? or maybe every other cache?
  5. Our Garmin 60Csx is not paperless so I'd like to add the notes using GSAK like I've heard people mention before. Mainly I'd like to have the Cache size, diffculty/terrain rating and, maybe the hint/clue. Only downloaded GSAK yesterday so I haven't had much time to play with it yet. Any sugegstions or tips are much appreciated
  6. 24 caches and looking forward to our next one. My wife and I are having a lot of fun caching. I've noticed the more we go caching to more information we need to have in order to go. This usually involves searching for the caches, saving them to the GPS and printing info to take with us in case we get stuck. An old backpack has quickly become our well stocked caching bag. We bought the premium membership so we could do the pocket queries. I've done that once. Will need to explore that more. As for the GPS, we have a Garmin 60Csx that is not paperless and does not have turn by turn,...yet!. We do not have a separate car GPS for turn by turn. Just looking for some suggestions or tips at this point. We'd like to make the caching as easy as possible so that we can go more often and not have to "prepare" as much. Is it possible for us to ditch all the paper?
  7. Testing. Can't seem to get my avatar to change once i select it. Numerous attempts. The change just doesn't save?!?! any suggestions.
  8. What makes a good geocache name? 1) Named after the general area or landmark 2) Gives a hint of what to look for 3) Creative. Sounds interesting. 4) Named after the cache owner 5) Doesn't matter. No preference.
  9. We've noticed our GPS doing some funky stuff when getting close to a waypoint. for example, One second it tells me to head south 15' then as soon as I head that direction it tells me to head North 13'. It kind of jumps around as I walk around what I think is the waypoint. Does yours do this? Can metal fences or buildings have an effect? We've had a hard time finding some caches because of this. Kinda hard to find a camouflaged micro when you are 10' off!! EDIT: We are using a Garmin GPSmap 60Csx. Freshly charged batteries. Issues noticed mostly when using the electronic compass.
  10. i bought my wife a Garmin 60Csx for Christmas. Our first GPS ever. It didn't take us long to figure things out. After a few easy caches we knew how to do the basics. Not familiar with the 62s but we have no complaints with our 60Csx. The base map is just that. A base of major streets and highways. no secondary and neighborhood streets. We would like to download the street maps to make it easier to navigate from cache to cache. Just don't want to spend the extra $$ on it just yet.
  11. It would be nice to have some driving directions when going from cache to cache...and when driving to anywhere new. Has anyone gone through the trouble and expense of downloading the street maps? How well does it work? Is it worth buying the maps? What is the best way to get the maps?
  12. Well. 22 found now. Getting stumped on a few. There are some really well hidden caches out there. Still getting the hang of the GPS. Sometimes it doesn't seem to cooperate once in the GZ. Kinda hard to be stealthy when your doing the GPS dance.
  13. The key to making them show up as a geocache is to change the waypoint icon to the closed treasure chest icon. Once you do that they will show up as a cache. Once you find one you can change it to the open treasure chest. You'll have to check the manual for instructions. I forget how to do it. My wife has become the expect of the GPS now.
  14. Thanks. That was one of the things we noticed when reading last night, that geocahing parties sometime get together for a day with a goal of X many caches in a particular area. That sounds like a lot of fun. We may recruit some family and friends who already have GPS's for hunting and fishing. We could form our own little scavaging party!!
  15. We've found a few more caches. One of them was a nano. Pretty difficult but very fun. Muggles seem to be the hard part as most of the caches near our house are in very busy places. After expanding our search I can see where filtering would come handy. There's just soo many to find. Just gonna keep on finding caches and having fun!
  16. Thanks for all the replies. We are slowly getting to know our GPS a little better. We were able to find out how to download the basic cache information and coordinates via the Garmin plugin. We definitely need to learn how to use our GPS better. It takes a while to figure out how to navigate through the menus but we're getting better, slowly. We will probably try a couple more close by caches and see how it goes. I'm sure we will learn a lot more after reading the forum and watching the videos.
  17. New here and just getting started with geocaching. Received a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx for Christmas. We were able to enter coordinates of a few caches and find them. Now we're ready to dive in head first. Need advice of were to begin and best way to get cache info to our GPS. Any tips and suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Nuthouseinva Brian and Casey
