  1. Congratulations on a great personal achievement. Well done! D & J
  2. To give Challenges a try, I have completed one and set one. To complete my challenge, I had to take and post a photo that proved I had visited a location where there is no chance of a physical cache. Seemed ok to me, but the logging process is a bit Noddy compared with a real cache visit - optimised for Apps I suppose. I set a Challenge, CX1B8A, which also requires you to take a photo from a location where a physical cache would not be possible. I also ask for some additional detail to validate it. The Challenge has attracted one acceptance and 3 Thumbs Down. I think it would be helpful if there was some facility for those who disapprove of my challenge to tell me why. What "thumbs down" to "thumbs up" ratio do I need to get my challenge archived? Can I vote too?
  3. I put a background image on one of my caches and was disappointed that so little was showing. Seems much better with the new layout, and you can get rid of of it by selecting "print". Obviously with the cache owners to regularly maintain their cache description as well as the physical cache.
  4. Yes, studies show 80% of registered accounts have never looked at the forums (seriously). Well, the Twosome has logged a handful of TB's, so they must know how to do it. Hey, that's one of my favorite obscure Pink Floyd Songs. Many thanks for the help! I followed the link and have sent an email to The Colonel and hope he can brush up his Procedures soon. Well spotted on the Username! It is the name of our yacht, a J120 and we tend to use it as our internet identifier and in our domain names. It is traditional to give boats the name of your wife (soothes the gripe about the cost!), and being a J boat, rather than just "Julia", we thought it better to name her after a favourite song. Of course our battle flag sports a scaly armadillo. geocaching@juliadream.eu
  5. Hi, From the cache log book for Lovers' Trough in Wiltshire, England, it appears "Colonel Talbot's Twosome" of London Canada called by on 3rd September and removed a Red Fire Truck TB. However, they have not logged it on the 'net. I think the date was actually 3 October, but does anyone know the mystery caller, and can we get the log sorted? Any thoughts please email me at geocaching@juliadream.eu Many thanks, Dudley
  6. Over the last 2 months I have noticed an increase in the number of 4 X 4 geocachers bagging caches near byways on the Wiltshire downland. Posts include pictures of the Freelander Family with their burggered-up children posing in front of their mudded Disco or Rav. Now I'm sure someone will say their child is suffering from cerebal palsy and this is the only way they can enjoy the country side, and I don't want to be accused of being a Wainwright..... However, many of these RUPPs have been specifically closed to motor vehicles this year by Wiltshire CC in the hope that they can recover and become passable for those on foot or bike. Posting that you had "a great day in the mud" may result in landowners and local authorities start to wonder whether permissions for caches which encourage people to go on caching raids in 4 X 4s is actually what they wish to permit. Is this an issue elsewhere? If so, how should it be tackled? My only suggestion is to put a note against the cache description to state whether motor vehicles are permitted on the byway close to the cache and drop a note to any cachers that post they have visited your cache by Chelsea tractor. We should encourage these people to get out of their trucks at the car park and do the final approach on foot or bike.
  7. Hi, First post to this forum, so probably DPM. Our first TB has been removed from a cache without being logged and has failed to reappear - ok so burial at sea time, but looking at the logs for this cache it is apparent that two other TBs have also gone. Are there Cache Squirrels who plunder caches? I have noted some caches seem to be devoid of the items previous cachers have logged in, but obviously only trackables will show up as going AWOL at a particular location. Should caches which show such tendancies have a warning message on their log?
