  1. Agree with the above, both Whitespace and the slightly harder Werewolf are fantastic but very tough puzzle caches - we really enjoyed solving and finding both of them.
  2. Now that Groundspeak have switched the Geocaching maps from a commercial service (Google) to a Community One run by volunteers (OpenStreetMap), I do hope that some form of donation has been made towards the service from Groundspeak. I know there is talk of our own tile server but as we're now effectively using a not-for-profit foundation to drive our maps I think that it's fair, nay required that we give them something back in return. Andy
  3. What's the best way to report caches that have been hidden in dry stone walls? Previous logs refer to the unsuitability of the hide. Needs maintenance? Should be archived? Or mail to reviewer? Thanks A&B
  4. But did you take all his swag? Even the coin + those items you left doesn't seem very fair at all.
  5. It certainly would seem so. Given the experiences we have had the last two Sundays. Does anyone care? Probably not! They have our $$$. A&B
  6. Either the site hangs or we get: HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable. It's the second weekend on the trot that this has happened on Sunday evening. Totally unacceptable. Is this what we pay for? A&B
  7. Here's a suggestion. Might be radical but let's go with it: Ensure the site is usable on a Sunday afternoon. This is a basic and a must. Once that's achieved, feel free to continue to introduce new features no-one wants. A&B
  8. Just the same as last Sunday. Then everyone said "it's down to International Geocaching Day/Block Party/Challenges". It's clear that some serious investment in the site is needed so we can benefit from the Premium features we pay for. Frankly, it's embarrassing that such a high-profile site is down so often. A&B
  9. Any word on where the camping will be. I don't want to attend an event where the camping is miles and miles away from the event venue. One of the great things about this weekends MegaPiratemania was it was all on the same site. I know there have been many complaints at other events about the distance from the camping to the venue. A
  10. my guess would be [aha], [that one too] and perhaps [maybe] but I'm no expert on these things... edited to amend the quote. all of the words, 'just in case' You run the risk by not censoring 'A'!
  11. Unacceptable language for this forum? Removed by moderator. Email to follow. Please let me know which of these words are unacceptable and I will avoid their use in the future? Andy
  12. Correct. And a fair proportion of what has followed on the last 5 pages (when it stayed on topic) has been a result of the UK equivalent of the behaviour/attitudes alluded to by Andy before Mandarin edited the word out. Some people seem to live in a confused world where the Forum rates equally or higher than the actual geocaching... Yes, there has been, and will no doubt continue to be, some quite ridiculous (by acceptable UK standards) decision making by GSP personnel, volunteer or otherwise, BUT, what is the relevance to finding plastic/metal boxes? Dare I suggest ... None. If the Forums were switched off, would it affect the ability to cache... No. Is use of the Forums a privilege of Premium Membership... No. Let's just get out there and cache Incidentally - I fully support Mandarin's editing , since whilst I think Andy was using the word in the following definition On certain Usenet groups, "******" can be used to refer to Americans in general, especially those who exhibit "ugly American"** tendencies. The term is derived from an approximation of the pronunciation of the word "American". its not the standard definition, so was not appropriate to this Forum which is much more 'family friendly' than most. ** "Ugly American" is an epithet used to refer to perceptions of loud, arrogant, demeaning, thoughtless and ethnocentric behavior of American citizens mainly abroad, but also at home. Although the term is usually associated with or applied to travellers and tourists, it also applies to US corporate businesses in the international arena. Sorry you are wrong. I was using <edited> in the English dictionary sense meaning "<edited by Forum Moderator>". No offence was meant to our American cousins http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/edited Andy Once again, unacceptable language for this forum. mandarin
  13. So to summarise: The Hornet posts an 50% off-topic post in the Geocoins forum. Eartha goes against the rules and guidelines of the forum and offers him no warning and slaps him with a 3 day ban. No action is taken against Eartha. Eartha is a pousy gvant-haired succled gnarted schoom. Is that about right? Andy Edited to remove offensive word. This is unacceptable behaviour on this Forum. mandarin
  14. Hast thou or word, or wit, or impudence, that can yet do thee office? William Shakespeare - "Measure for Measure"
  15. It doesn't seem to be a Groundspeak problem per se, it just seems to be a problem with certain moderaters who are clearly merkins. Andy
  16. Perfect! Thank-you to everyone that replied. Andy
  17. Blacks in Leeds had some a couple of hours ago when I made Becky give up her lunch break to toddle halfway across the city centre :-) Big Ben here also. Andy
  18. Is it possible to get a list of the top 50 or 100 oldest surviving UK caches? Other than running a succession of pocket queries then doing something nifty with access I can't think of a way? Does anyone have a list please, or could point me in direction of how to achieve this? Thank-you Andy
  19. You've been to Groundspeak HQ and counted have you? No need, it's a widely published fact that only 26% of American Citizens have passports. See http://www.hotelmarketing.com/index.php/co...ssports_issued/ for example. Andy And how appliccable (and indeed how relevant) is that stat to the staff at Groundspeak? Well given that Groundspeak staff are American, I'd say it was very applicable (one c), and quite relevant. Of course you didn't need that explaining as you were simply being obtuse for the sake of it. Andy
  20. You've been to Groundspeak HQ and counted have you? No need, it's a widely published fact that only 26% of American Citizens have passports. See http://www.hotelmarketing.com/index.php/co...ssports_issued/ for example. Andy
  21. We'll be arriving at the campsite sometime on Friday, depending on how many caches we encounter on route, going to the fox hunt meet & Hog Roast on Saturday and then we'll be booking people in at the mega-event on Sunday. Looking forward to the weekend. Andy & Becky
  22. There seems to have been an awful lot of bugs introducted by this release, many of them things that are obvious (cache pages not displaying correctly being an example). It's clear that insufficient testing on the new design has taken place. Can future releases please be tested better before being put live? Thanks Andy
  23. Supporter's Geocoin is excellent. Just one question - I thought that the coin would have it's own icon on GC.COM? There is just a generic geocoin icon attatched to the coin at the moment? See - http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.as...a9-2f2d766a4016 Cheers Andy
