  1. Been waiting for this to come out! I think we'll be able to make it this year, now that I have VACATION again!
  2. I'm guessing that you are homesick without any help from me...believe me, I know how it feels... Where in the white stuff are you?
  3. Hahahaha, I felt it too. Also, Hi from Greeley. We are slowly getting back into caching since a break from about 2005. A LOT of changes & caches have popped up since then, so we feel like starting from square one. Cheers! Welcome back! I think I've seen your name in some of the caches we found - a long time ago - and you're right there are a lot of caches for you to find in the area now. If I remember correctly, there were only 2500-ish caches in the state in 2005. Quite a few more now...... And we may want to be careful, I have also hear that the NW US is getting snow - it may rain in CO.....
  4. Colorado is going to get hit by a Tsunami? Well that should be interesting. If the Tsunami is going to get Colorado at 5000 feet, we are in trouble here in Alabama. I FELT IT! It was just a small breeze though...... Should be heading your way soon Rocketman....
  5. It's been a while since I've been about to get out, but I finally had a chance yesterday. Hiking in the snow is fun. The Sleepy Lion was waiting for us, so a 5+ mile hike was the bait to go find it. Only a few inches of fresh snow to deal with, but gravity proved to be the biggest challenge of the day!
  6. Twin Sisters sounds like a hike right up your alley. There's a cache at both peaks - I C U and A Pair of Queens. The hike isn't bad at all, but the last 200 feet of elevation gain is a bit rocky. Nothing technical - I'm bringing my 10 year old up there this year. There are other great hikes near Denver too, thought I'd at least give you a couple to look at. If you're looking for something different/closer let me know - I'll review some of my logs and talk with the hiker-cachers around here for ya.....
  7. Welcome to Geocaching! Our fun started when we found out about it back in 2005, and we're still finding stuff! A two hour radius gives you TONS of options; it all depends on what you want to do. Hiking? 4-Wheeling? Scenic Drive? The Peak-to-Peak highway has some nice caches along it, between Boulder and Estes Park. Estes is a great place to visit, and geocaching around town just shows you the places you may not have seen before. There's a couple near the Stanley Inn, around the visitor's center, etc. If you'd like, we can provide GC#s to a few with links. I see you're already a Premium member too! You can do lots of cool stuff with Pocket Queries, making caching easier to do. There's an event coming up too that may be of interest to you - Rocky Mountain Geocaching Academy. It's going to be a great resource for you getting started.
  8. OK, I've reached out to oldravens, and they'll do what they can to help out. I'll e-mail you directly with their contact information. Happy Caching, and Happy New Year!
  9. Hey there! Congrats on the new GPS! Which one did ya get? We're in Colorado too, just on the other side of the mountains though......I know of a few cachers in your neck of the woods that might be able to help you out too. Feel free to reply here or e-mail me privately with any questions you have. I'll do what I can to help out! Edited to add: There's also the 'Rocky Mountain Geocaching Academy' event coming up on February 13th. Not really in your neck of the woods, but could be a source of good information for you.
  10. Nothing like 50 degree days to get outside again.
  11. Thanks zoltig! Here's a direct link (so you don't have to do a search).
  12. I'm heading to MN in a few days. If anyone can get it to North Denver I'll see what I can do....
  13. Hey there! Not sure how many CO cachers frequent these forums (or any for that matter - we're too busy outside...). We're a bit North of you, or I'd extend an adventure with you. The local group forums may be another good place to post. Happy Caching!
  14. OK. I'll see if I can get another local to chime in here, but until then, Columbine Manor is one that I found that I thought was pretty interesting.
  15. I made it today! 55 degrees and no wind at the top either - impressive for 14,259! The Narrows look worse in the picture than they actually are (at least, to me) The homestretch is not what you want to see after 7 miles of hiking: ...but making it to the top was worth it!
  16. Someone must be back from Longs Peak. Did you make it all the way up there? We made it to the keyhole, but had to turn around because of ice and slick conditions at the narrows. The homestretch was also ice-packed. The temp dipped below 30 degrees when we were there, and the wind was just nasty. After descending, I went over the Chasm Lake (much warmer!) and took a nap for a few hours, then snapped a few pictures. I'm working on a 2nd attempt in the next week or two. Hopefully I can get back up there in 2009!
  17. Let's call that rock......Chris. Oooohhhhh....I like it! Yeah, let's do that! Good thinkin'! Never quite realized it, but that's a rather nice perspective of that, umm, "un-named rock"... It's named now. As per zoltig, it shall be referred to as "Chris" from now on!
  18. Let's call that rock......Chris. Oooohhhhh....I like it! Yeah, let's do that! Good thinkin'!
  19. Paid a visit to the summit of Mt. Lady Washington today. Wonderful views, except that big, un-named rock behind me.
  20. Nice photos! Did you happen to make it to the other half of Grazentorreys? With respect to that "road", it was never much more than a horse trail for tourists. I'm told though that Grays has been successfully climbed by jeep. We didn't make it to Torreys - We got to the summit of Grays just before noon, and was met shortly after by a thunderstorm. Sleet and rain made the descent a little slick, and we really didn't feel like going uphill during the storm. Torrey's will wait for another day.......
  21. Way to go Chris. BTW: Is there a road up there for the Jeeps? Thanks RM, it sure was great to knock off my first 14er. The trail is on the map as a "road" according to Garmin. The road from I-70 to trailhead is jeep-worthy, but I did manage to drive it with my Focus - it's a good thing I installed those front lockers and 1" spacers......
  22. Got a couple DNF's today, but the hike was worth it without the smiley's. At the summit: It is June, right?
  23. Sorry for the lack of response from the locals, we're all too busy being outside and enjoying the weather, mountains, skiing, golfing, hiking, camping, biking out here. As for caches to find while in the area, anything with a hike would come highly recommended. A Pair of Queens is fairly close, but is a 6 hour adventure. If you're looking for something in town, Pearl Street, All Spruced up is a good one to find, with a tour of the Pearl Street mall. Old Kiln Trail Geology Field Guide was also a very cool Earthcache to visit. Edit to add: If you'd like more feedback from the locals, feel free to post in the local forums. There's a few that may be able to direct you towards other cool caches around town.
  24. Saturday turned out to be a great day to take a hike. High 70's and almost no clouds. Gotta Love Colorado.... Missed ya' Tahosa - wish you were there.....
