  1. Thanks Ruzhye, it was a lot of fun up there. I'm a fan of those caches that don't get visited that often, and the ones that take physical energy to get to. Most of the caches weren't that far off the road, but because of the terrain they don't get visited that often. Made for a long day in the hills, but those are the best days to have. JPIT provided the entertainment for the day for sure:
  2. Spent Saturday in the hills with TRR having some fun. NOWAE taking the drop: Red Ruby waiting for a little help: The mud was a little 'soupy' here: But it's spring, and everything is starting to bloom:
  3. You would fit right in with the Swamp People Chris. In all seriousness though, great work guys. Har-Har-Har! Woke up pretty achy today. It may not look it, but those tires are HEAVY! Full of water and river sand after (how many) years submerged. I'd guess that each one was (seriously) about 100 pounds. Tahosa would be proud of Denali41 too - that man has a work ethic that's hard to match!
  4. What a fantastic day for a CITO! The forecast called for 40's and rain/snow, but mother nature gave us 50's and sunshine the entire time! Here's a few pictures from the 7th Annual Tribute CITO ~ In honor of Billzjeep
  5. Thanks Magellan for providing the prizes for this event! Ours took place today and was absolutely fantastic! Here's a few pictures from the 7th Annual Tribute CITO ~ In honor of Billzjeep
  6. Yep, caching with the family is fun. We've been caching for a while now, but our family has grown a bit since we started. They still enjoy it, and I am lucky enough that they enjoy hiking/snowshoeing with me. Now they can do some of those Tahosa caches with me. Nice Fam. Thanks. They were in the picture frame when I bought it.

  8. Awesome! My event was one of the lucky ' Super Sponsorship' events and I'm anxiously awaiting for the arrival of sponsorship material. I'm actually meeting with the Open Space team tomorrow to go over logistics for the day-of activities. I sent an email to cito@magellangps.com for the goodie bags too. Hopefully I'll be able to get those as well! I'm also working with the BLM office on another CITO for NPLD August 13th, and another CITO effort in the Fall with Boulder County. Will there be other Magellan partnership opportunities later on in the year? (passively wondering)
  9. Well, the Fourmile event was yesterday. I can't speak for everyone, but I'm pretty still today. 8 hours in a burn zone. Lots of work done, and still lots of work to do. And I saw this morning that we made the news too!
  10. Hello Ecylram. We did the same thing when we started caching - we brought baggies, different sized logbook replacements, magnets, glue and even spare containers (35mm, altiod tins, lock'n'locks, etc). But after a while we noticed that we were fixing 'crappy caches'. I know that everyone has a different opinion on what makes a good cache, but it's easiest to define it as 'a cache that you'd like to see stick around'. So we stopped fixing 'all of them' and started the 'wow' factor maintenance. If we found it and said 'wow' it was worth repairing. Not too long ago, we replaced the container of this cache because it had the 'wow' factor to it. The ones that fade from memory probably should die a natural death. It's the good ones we want to stick around. We still carry around those supplies and fix some here and there, but not nearly as often as we used to.
  11. While there is no 'rule' for/against it, it is considered 'bad form' to log your own cache as a find. Events are an exception though, as it seems pretty normal to log your own events as 'attended' without anyone batting an eye about it. I have logged a few caches that I own - but I consider them as exceptions. They were ones that I found, then later adopted from the original cache owners.
  12. Where did you get the Geocaching flag from?? I want one! Shop Groundspeak Edit to add: I brought it along on another snowshoe trip - and sat on a waterfall.
  13. Have fun up there! There's PLENTY of snow in the area. As a teaser, here's where I went yesterday: In the summer, there would be a waterfall behind me...
  14. Nice! Many's the time that I've skied up to Brainard. Sadly, that was a lot of years ago. (Sorry that you didn't find the cache...but maybe now you have an excuse to go back again?) Oh yeah, I'll be going back. From what I've heard it's usually windy, but when we were up there it was pretty strong. Can't imagine it would be like that all the time. I'd like to continue to Lake Isabelle next time. I think Calypso Cascade and Ouzel Falls are the next trip. Well, we went snowshoeing to Ouzel Falls today and had a blast! Absolutely no wind, and only a few others out on the trail today. Frozen Solid: ....and still made it home in time for the game :-)
  15. I braved 30mph gusts at 10,300 feet a few weeks ago, but ended with a DNF. Still worth it though, got some great pictures!
  16. How 'bout an updated pic? Wow, how time flies.....
  17. What kind of hike are you looking for? There's a ton of options around there. 14ers? 13ers? Falls? With all the variables in the area, it'd be pretty tough to nail your interest down. What's your mileage want? Elevation gain?
  18. Just saw your video on the Geocaching.com blog - looks like a lot of fun - we may have to consider doing the same HotM out here!

  20. Tried to find this cache today but the snow proved too much. Still an awesome day having fun though!
  21. Well that's good to know! I've had enjoyable experiences in other states, but it is nice to have the Colorado scenery at 'home.'
  22. Love too, but I'll be in Ft. Collins again that day. Hope you're able to find someone. I think GPSax took someone out for a few last request.
  23. 8 miles, 2800 feet elevation gain, 7 1/2 hours. A little snow but not too bad. We were above the clouds most of the day, and the views were phenomenal. Take a look! Early morning, the clouds were below us at the trailhead. With the elevation gain, that didn't last long: On top of the mountain, we watched the clouds come into the valleys below: A few of the mountains struggled to keep their summits out of the clouds. Snow capped mountains in the background - those look fun too!
  24. Plot some trails on mapping software, then overlay existing caches (using Pocket Queries will make this easy). Austin Hikes City of Austin Trail Directory Once you see a good area to hide a few, check to see if there are any land management rules regarding the placement of geocaches. For example, here's the policy for Carrolton, Texas. Hope this helps!
  25. :Bump: Had a fun weekend above 11,000 feet. It's a bit cold this time of year, but the heaters work just fine! Gotta love the view from up there: Very happy no one got stuck here: Flashing our colors:
