Glad to hear you made it out of there safely, Ron! jaimee The only one of those lakes I've been to in a while is Turlock and I don't remember much in the way of trials around. It's mostly rolling grassy hills. That's why I didn't really consider it as a geoevent area. Tulloch and Don Pedro I don't know much about so someone would have to fill me in. I might as well take this opportunity to call for a show of hands. Who would like to help me throw a geoevent. (again.. thinking april). We need to pick a place, date, and come up with some activities. I don't think food would be a problem since we could just make it a pot-luck and everyone could just bring something and share. I already have a few cache games we can play. I've already decided on at least doing a 3 card poker run. george george

I know there are some folks who tend to hang out, chat, cache together, etc., and I was told that the get-together would be limited to specific people only. Just curious if what I was told is correct info or not! Thanks Jaimee I mentioned doing one one in April last month but I never intended it being invitation only. I was going to post coordinates and have it as a geoevent. That reminds me. I was thinking of having it at the Knights Ferry River park since it's such a lovely place to hike and would provide room for some caching games. I discussed it with Kevin and he thought it might not be the best place and worried about the rangers frowning on placing caches for games in the area. The caches for the games were just going to be a larger washer with a code word written on it, which would be removed at the end of the day. I didn't even think I would mention it to the rangers since the impact would be minimal and removed. Kevin thought we should hold it at the Tuolumne River Park by the airport. It again is large enough. My wife doesn't like the park due to the fact that we suspect it's a spot for cruzing. Lots of males in the parking log who later go disapear into the bushes. Just a suspision but the place has a vibe about it. Anyway, I can't afford to throw much of a bash in April due to the whole taxes thing. I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go. But I can help organize. george

We are going to put our first Cache out this weekend, Double checking your Cord. is a good Idea. We have been at caches with cord. 50' off and searched for a long time to find it. as far as the giddy up cache we gave up, we could'nt find it. We will try to give a good clue with our cache. Thanks, The Morris Family. We Hope to meet you all on the trail. I've been following the last few of your cache finds.. I've been quite impressed and your success at the Ripon Cache and my Clear as Day cache. Tomaski and I were talking it over the other day. Impressive. george

I'm new to GeoCaching, just completed my 10th Cache Saturday and also my first non-find (Dragonfly.) Got interested after hearing the segment on NPR a couple of weeks ago. Dragged my Mother along to my 1st (and 2nd) out of state cache last week while visiting her in Yuma, Az. I enjoy a lot of traveling and look forward to adding a GeoCaching component. dave Since I'm probablly closest too you I expect to be hunting your caches soon. george

After being stumped on Pathygoras cache I'm proud to say I've figured this one out... http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=16950 I sent my coordinats to Aquadyne and got my, "you're withing 5 ft" so now all I have to do is go get it. I actually started to go through all the math involved. Vectors and cross products and such but then my wife "the geologist" who has done these sort of things before thought of an easier way and she was right. Now watch me not be able to find it. george
  8. For x-mas I got a pair of LL bean head lamps that have both LED and regular lamps in the same headlamp. I can switch back and forth depending on what I need. I had problems with it once. The battery compartment allowed for the battery to slide a bit and was not making contact. I just bent the connector out some and fixed the problem. george

When I grew up (and still think this way) a knife was a tool. I usually have a pocket knife on me. NOT AS A WEAPON! I knive is a wonderful tool. It's one of the things you should never go into the woods without. I've taken and left small pocket knives in caches. I find them infinately more useful and fun to find than any toy or other common gadget found in caches. george

It's time to cull the herd. Take up smoking. (this whole anti-smoking campaign is really hurting the environment) Sit around watch TV and die of heart disease. You've had your time. Others minimize the significance of find counts. I though it might be interesting to see a poll of how everyone feels about them. [This message was edited by Geo Leo on March 19, 2002 at 12:08 PM.] Over all the count doesn't really matter, but I have a couple of friends in the area and we're quite competitive. More in the FTF aspect than the total count. But total count matters too. I would never go up to a new cacher or even a veteran cacher and start comparing cache counts. It's just between friends. I've recently given up dense cache areas to go to a remote part of the state that only had a few caches in the whole area because I was looking for this specific cache item. My friend took advantage of this and he's increased his lead quite a bit. Bit I still want that one cache item (missed it twice now... couldn't find the access road), and I'll go back, count be damned. george george

  15. What do people around here expect from a clue? I have to start out that no one is required to give a clue, but if you do, what do you expect the clue to do? I kind of expect the clue to give me some extra information to get closer. Lately it seems like some of the clues have been really 'general'. It'd be like asking for directions to my house and me saying "Take I-5 south to the Patterson exit". Well, I kind of figured that much. My problem is that I usually give obscure clues that most people just don't get. As an example, my originial clue for a cache mentioned a movie reference to an airline. Specifically Quantus the austrailian airline. My intention was to direct the cacher toward the thing that originated from austrailia. The connection required too many steps or was just too obscure for most people. I revamped the clue to again point to the austrailian thing but in a more obvious way. The type of clue I seem to be getting lately is "If you're near the river you're close." Again, maybe it's me but I don't find that helpful the gps got me to the river that type of clue adds nothing. If you're going to provide a clue make it one that afterwards people look back and say "Oh now I get it." george [This message was edited by georgeandmary on March 18, 2002 at 10:20 PM.]

  18. Have you ever tried to find a cache while the cache owner is watching you? I ride bikes with a fellow cacher and we were on a trail where he had placed a cache that I knew of. He stood and watched while I hunted for the cache and it drove me crazy. I asked him to go around the bend but he would not. It's just too much pressure to search while the cache owner is watching. Am I alone here?
  19. Last night a local cache popped up by a local irrication canal. It was 9:30 at night, it was 12 miles away, I had a light, I went fot it. I ended up not finding it. It was a really small cache 2 inches by 2 inches. Gave up after about 30 minutes. george

He was down for a week so I took a day off work and we went geocaching. We went after a 4.5 and HE found it. We found 3 more that day and I just got news that he found his first Utah cache yesterday. That sounds like a pain to implement. It's less work for two people to put together a cache and maintain it that it is for one person. If you split the work maybe you should split the credit. george

  24. Friday night I was double checking some waypoints and caches for Saturday afternoon and I noticed Giddy Up was just approved. I live it Patterson, the cache is near Keys, 12 miles away, near a road, it's 9:30 at night, I have a headlamp, so what happened? That's right, I went for it. Threw all my stuff in the car hit "go to" on the gps and drove off. I get there and start searching and couldn't find it so I went for the clue. Doh! Left the print out at home so I called mary. "Mary, read me the desrcription and the clue." Mary, "I can't believe you're out there." "Just read the clue. Tomaski will hit this one on Saturday and we'll be in a different area. I can't let him get this one." She read the clue... didn't help. I crawled around a bit more. Looked at the horses a bit. Crawled some more. Increased my search area. Gave up and left. Am I crazy? george

How many people will be going to the Saco. Get-together put on by Rocklin-Doc? Dawn and I will be there. Richard of the GeoCricket Well come on down!!! Concerning the event? When and where. Can you slip me the link. george
