I bet they’re worth at least $1.10 now. Seriously though, I liked them. http://www.creekbed.com/images/creekbed%20logo%20original%202.gif http://creekbed.com/ I'd like to use the coins but in my area (central california) they don't pop up too often, so when they do pop up I hold on to them. If there were enough of them so that they'd be common and no big thing, I'd use them all the time. george
  2. I've often heard people say that it doesn't count as a cache unless you sign the log book, and I agree. So check this out. Today we, mary and I, found a cache and started to write in the log. While writing in the log my daughter yells out, "Look another one!". So we open the second cache and it explains that it's the replacment for the original cache that came up missing. So we logged that one too. Two caches, two log books. Someone must have returned the original cache. What do you think, one or two finds? george
  3. So I head off to Sacratomato thinking I could get a good 10 cache day today. Little did I know that those llama caches would be so easy. Man Jeff needs to get together with Jeff and they'd have the perfect cache. Here's the 15/16 cache clincher. Run Llama Run was recently replaced with a new cache becaue the old one was supposedly missing, well it's not. Mary found the old cache, not nowing it had been replaced. And then while logging the find my daughter found the NEW cache. I don't see how the old one was missed, it was right out in the open, someone must have returned it. Well, we found 2 caches, signed 2 log books so I counted it as 2 finds. Two easy finds but two finds. I told the cache owner to delete on of my find logs if he didn't agree so I'll find out what RENT thinks. Ron... So you're up for meeting at Squirrel Stash in the moring? I can be there any time pick a time. 9am, 10 am, 11 am.. that's find. I need 2 or 3 more caches to hit 100 so tomorrow is as good as anytime. Well discuss the gathering stuff when I see you. Anyone else want to come? george

Anytime the trail is rideable I try to bring my bike. There are also series of caches along urban bike trails where you can ride the lenght of the nice paved trails and keep hitting caches every 1/2 mile or mile along a 5 mile trail. Sure beats walking. I actually found out about geocaching through moutain biking. I was out with some buddies riding a trail about an hour from my house and right in the middle of the ride we had to stop. One of the guys in the group was hiding a cache. "What in the world are you doing?" "Geocaching." "What? You hiding money?" "No C-A-C-H-E not cash." "What?" He explained. On the way home I stopped and bought a gps. george george

  7. quote:Originally posted by LuvOzzy: Has anyone ever done any GeoDashing?? I was looking at the website and found it quite interesting. I know that Just A Short Walk and Iron Chef play, but I wasn't sure if anyone else from around here participates. I guess you can do it individually or in teams. Sounded kinda fun to me but wanted to see if any had actual experience with it. Off to bed for me. I did lots of walking today and I am tired!!! Jaimee There is another game you might want to check out called www.minutewar.com. I know about geodashing but I just haven't taken the time to add it to my list of 'hobbies'. george

  9. I thought about the whole thing where people would be looking for the same cache/marker during the event and I think I may know a way to releave some of the crowding. For the 3 card poker. The game, when I read about it, said place 5 markers, but I think that would be too few with too many going for the same ones. Instead I thought I'd place more like 10-12 so cachers could take there pick... some closer, some farther. The closer the marker the better it would be hidden. The farther the marker the easier it would be to spot. So cachers would have to decide for a short walk, long search or long walk quick search. Are you better at walking or searching. You would only ever need to find 5 at the most so this would reduce (hopefully) the chance of going for the same cache. Also, since I have to set this up, and hopefully someone will help me, who ever helps can still play, they just can't look for their own markers. Hey Ron, I'm off until Monday, tomorrow I'm planning on going to Sacrameto with the family to look for caches but I'm free to get with you on Friday. george
  10. quote:Originally posted by LuvOzzy: One more thing George. I personally don't care much for rocks under bridges! Jaimee Why do you think that cache is called 4 jeff. I absolutely hated looking for 'what lies ....'. I wanted jeff to get a taste of his medicine, but not as bad. It sounds like Ripon cache should be a "bring a shovel" cache. I'm not one to dig for a cache. If it says 'covered' then I'll poke around but I don't like tearing up a place to look for a cache. I just don't think it's good for our reputation. Change of subject!!! I noticed no one has found Dragonfly since mary and I did a long time ago. Let me say, I put it back right where I found it. It took me about 10 minutes to find. So there! Let me finish this off by saying not ALL rock caches are bad. It just depends on how it's done.

  12. Don't you hate caches hidden in the rocks near a bridge. Well I do. I just wanted to share some of the frustration but still make it findable. When I first placed it I wanted to make sure that a bit of it was still visible without moving rocks around. Which cache did you two miss today? george
  13. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=18687 there it is. I'm going to have to get there early in the morning to set up for the three card poker, if anyone wants to help just give a holler. I'm going to buy some good size washers and paint them gold to use as the game markers, my plan was to hide some close and some further in. If you help hide then of course you can't play that one game. Ron, what are the other games that you mentioned. george
  14. I'm all for it, then again, i've got a personal competition going between me and a friend. He's got me by about 30 caches but he started 3 months before me. But anyway.... I just logged my 82nd today and I have to agree that looking back, 50 is not that many BUT before you hit 50 100 seems like it'll never happen. So think 50 is a good started for pins and such. After that 100, 200, 300 seems like the natural milestone marker. As for a percentage of caches in the area, there are a little over 700 caches within 100 miles of me and I've hit 80 (2 were no visit caches, that is just a bit over 10%. I don't think percentage can be used as a marker for how hard you're hunting. george
  15. I went down to Knights Ferry today to check out the group picknick area and I found an even better one near the river and practically in the shadow of the bridge. And better yet, it was only $35. So for those of you that pitched in just cut your offer in half and we have it. I've called to reserve it and I'll be posting the event cache soon. It's a nice big area underneath a group of sycamore trees with 4-5 tables and a double wide grill already there. george george
  16. The group table reservation fees have been covered. No need to pitch in anymore. thanks, george
  17. quote:Originally posted by C&MMorris: I noticed a few cachers have trade marks that they leave with the caches. Is that something that everyone does? Just curious. Mike Morris I tend to leave a lot of homies. They're cheap and I collect them anyway. All my doubles and extra homies get put in a container that I take with me. I also have a 'calling card' that I made up but I often forget to bring it with me. You may find a cache with business card from 'george and mary' george
  18. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=18609 more importantly than the cache, check out who placed it? Look at Ranger Dan's profile. Some news on the geoevent. I called the park and the 20th is open. The only thing I wasn't expecting was the $50 fee. I'm passing that hat to see if any modesto cachers would like to help out with the fee (I hope that's not too imposing) tomaski said he'd pitch in $10, I'll cover what ever is left. (email me privately if you want to pitch in) I'm calling tomorrow to reserve the place. I'm going up tomorrow to take a stab at that cache and get the coordinates for the tables so I can post the event. george email: gcrawfor@altair.csustan.edu
  19. quote:Originally posted by BrandonSi: Rat Race is hilarious!!! I watched it twice this weekend. It's on pay per view and I was laughing out load quit a few times. The whole 'prairy dogging' scene had me in stiches. I'll buy the squirrel. george

Jaimee I'm kind of zeroing in on Knights Ferry due to the fact that I just spotted the group tables with a nice roof for shade. I drove by Saturday (after I hurt my back) and saw the sign that said it was reservable. I need to call and see which dates are open I don't want to pick a date and then find that I can't reserve the nice shadey tables. Also, there was a week that you two were going to be gone wasn't there? around the 28th? I'm shooting for April 20th. george

I have never really hurt my back before, and it was not very pleasant! It really sucked that I had to watch my husband on the next few caches and couldn't participate! Hope your back feels better so you can make good use of your time off! Jaimee I've had problems with it for the past few years. I wasn't even doing much when it happend (as always). I just stepped up onto a rock and I felt it spasm. I was kind of worried for a second since I was in the area of Single Barbles no Live Bait and I had just hiked down the side of the hill. Since I instantly stopped my search I did not log it as a NOT FOUND but I was a pain getting out of there. I usually cary some Vicadin with me but couldn't find it in my back and just walked out really carefully. Had one kid with me, with Mary waiting further up the hill. If worse came to worse someone could have gone for help, but I made it out. I had planned on hitting Skullduggery, Nothing but... Dinosaurs, and SACTO Dist 901, but I instead went home and hit the heating pad. sucks. george
