  1. I've used Pelican brand waterproof boxes for many years on my boat and they work great. If the model you plan to use has a rubber o ring seal make sure it doesn't get pinched and a very small amount of vaseline makes for a very watertight seal.
  2. Thanks much, just goes to show the importance of the discussion site for getting info and not for whinners
  3. It's not a TB, it's a little red plastic monkey with 3letters and two numbers inked on it. cactus8
  4. I found one of those red monkeys with # on him. I've run across them before but have forgoten how to log them. little help please, thanks.

  7. Thanks for the info. I guess the bears keep the vandals away! Easy rating and only 26 finds, sure would like to add GC8 to my found list. Life is a relentless struggle with the odds stacked against you
  8. An inquiring mind would like to know who owns the longest operational cache in the USA? Life is a relentless struggle with the odds stacked against you
  9. I like he bug hotels but no stinking rules like 1 for 1. they are problems that could arise from vandals but its all kind of a risk anyway, isn't it? I have one near an airport that bug use was a major factor in its placement. JMHO Life is a relentless struggle with the odds stacked against you

  11. I have found benchmarks with gps stamped on it in CA that I believe are placed by Caltrans( witness post nearby marked Caltrans) that are not in our database. They are dated 1999 so maybe Caltrans places it's own disks out using gps but we don't have access to that database yet. Anyone in California know about this?
  12. I didn't put 2 and 2 together since I thought they were the US Powerboat Squadron and besides why would boaters be looking for BM's in the desert. My first guess was an aviator group. Anyway thanks for the info.
  13. I've found in some of the data sheets mention of recovery[read found] by the US Power Squadron. Who are these guys?
  14. I have a virtual cache on the Colorado River below Hoover Dam. Great stripe bass fishing near the cache and up river if your lucky trout!

  16. I found an engraved railroad spike pounded into a telephone pole and understand that this type is common.

  18. I have to admit that the cost is a little high,350 bucks but I can use it on my boat for many things, like making sure I'm not slipping my anchorage. Made by Bushnell, they also incorporate the range finder into binocs for more bucks. Its range is from 10 yrds to 700 yrds if the target is reflective, 400 not reflective.

  20. I'm ready to add a new gadget to my inventory of tech toys. I looked at the palm 130, looks good and compatible with XP. Any advice from pocket querys users as to which unit is easiest to use?

  24. Since I've started benchmark hunting I found the official location descriptions used specific distances so I went out and bought a laser range finder. What a cool tool. I now believe that the complete geocacher tool belt should have a compass, a GPS, the laser range finder, and a PDA.
