  1. Buzz...like Renegade said, make some 1/1's near your house, or make some easily maintained "virtuals"! As a representative from the family known as "cachers", we would all be saddened by the loss of a member! "I", as a fellow cacher urge you to try and maintain your geocacher status! Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  2. I came accross this cache description which, in it's structure, has caused it to be listed as a new country: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=25730 the cache description of it being in South Carolina, Upper Volta, caused the database to create Upper Volta as a country. I'm sure the cache placer is scratching his/her head wondering why nobody has gone after it! Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  3. How about carrying a whistle? Even the most newbie hiker would respond to a person blowing an S.O.S. on thier whistle. This isn't an ad, but The Acme Company of Britian makes two of the loudest whistles in production; The Thunderer and The Boatswain's. Both can be heard over a mile! I've been carrying Acme Thunderer's for years, and give them as gifts to friends who discover hiking and such! I "never" hike without one!! Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  4. A note and map telling loved ones where you are going, how long you'll be, and how to find you! ------------------------------------------------ Cache printouts Topo maps Camelback 100oz "Unbottle" "Suunto" compass "Acme Thunderer" whistle Small bag with bandages Toilet paper plastic bags trash bags "Leatherman" tool money for pay phone old cell phone for 911 flashlight x 2 (One hedlamp, one stick) batteries enough and types for all utilities emergency blanket waterproof matches, matches, lighter small tarp for "Lean-too" Foldable camp stove sterno small heatable cups/pots tea bags coffee bags sugar aspirin extra canteen for mixing "Potable Aqua tabs" Potable Aqua tabs emergency mirror emergency beacon emergency vest "orange" magnifying glass (for creating fires) dried fruit and nuts Pemican hard candy Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  5. Can a Tucson based geo person give me the location of Glenn Stone!? Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  6. The original post was made in Anger and Haste. I, we, have spoken to the folks in question, and all is cool now. I ask the powers that be, to "close this thread"! Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  7. The folks in question are gleaning all TB's within thier area to place in either thier own, or other friendly cache's! Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  8. If I've come to read the rules correctly, as a "cache" placer, I have ultimate say in who can log my cache as a find, given the criteria I have set forth in the cache description...Correct? Given the "Game's Rules" itself, am I also allowed to remove "Finds" from folks who did not follow the "cache" instructions, or the spirit of the game instructions...ie, use a GPS...Correct? You see here in Central Massachusetts we have a small group of folks who do nothing but raid TB from nearby caches to place in either a "Hotel", or in caches that they want folks to visit, or make a point that they "found" the cache without a GPS. The problem is, is that the caches belong to them! These same folks even score logs when they visit thier "own" cache for maintenance! Granted, this is a small, "unscrupulous" group, but they intimidate other cachers within the area to comply with thier wishes! The Boyz will "NOT" be intimidated! We will be visiting our cache's over the next few weeks, and viewing the logs. Both the paper and electronic logs had better match, or your find is gone! Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  9. Yeah I got that today too! I went ahead and registered and applied for the stickers just to see what happens. I don't think they got my address at least, from Geocaching. I think they spidered it from a geocaching web page I maintain. Besides, thier "game-play" sounds like more effort than most folks want to put into. I mean, buying stickers for caches at 6 bucks a pop (can't place one without it), snail mailing coins back...etc. Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  10. The Boyz have a problem with Walden's avatar! We know he means it as "No GPS's," but his avatar levels his hatred toward the Yellow, Garmin Etrex! Given this innuendo, we can easily assume that Mr. Run might possibly be a "Magellan" supporter! If Mr. Run does not use, or support a GPS, then his avatar should reflect all GPS's equally! BTW...We're just kiddin' with ya Walden! Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com

  12. 1) A photograph of the actual cache location. 2) A personal website link that describes the cache location. Trust me, it's been done! 3) Giving a "cultural," "natural," or "geologic" history of the area can sometimes produce spoilers. Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  13. Hey Jon, yeah I was out with another team, my "yellow" was getting 15-20 ft. while their "vista" couldn't get signal. Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  14. For a "natural" repellent, 1 0z each of Eucalyptus and Chamomille leaves boiled together in 1 gallon of water. Strain and place in spray bottles. Havn't tried it, but most nature folk I've talked to have. Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  15. We think this is a cool idea! On the last cache we placed we stated that because it was watershed property, dogs were not allowed. Like the icon idea being integrated into the description though. We'll be editing our other placed caches to include whether they are dog-cool or not. Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  16. suezz, the Boyz also have the Yellow Etrex, the cable and EasyGPS. If you have any questions feel free to contact us! And welcome to the game! Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com

  18. quote:Originally posted by ponyboy93: I thought about making a GeoBaseball card. Maybe a pic of the cache site and all the stats about the site on the back. One for each site. Just like collecting Baseball cards. ponyboy I think this is a cool idea, we could then amass a collection of cards for all those cache's we really like! Much like a personal passport. 20. Try swirling it several times in the round fountain! Just Kiddin! It's not gettin' sat's cuz it's inside! Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  21. This is hard for us as we like them all, and don't want to see any of them go away. But we do understand the purists view, and if the game needed to be separated then Webling's idea is a good one. Most of us just don't like Waypoint as the third category as it'd be confusing since it is already a GC term (maybe Geospot). We'd also like the My Page to stay the same, but reflect the new game aspects...ie; Caches you've found, Hunts you've been on, Geospots you've located. Anyway, thanx for listening. Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  22. I was wondering if one of you nice folks could make a software suggestion to the Garmin Rep.? I think it'd benefit most folk if all Garmin GPS's had an "Emergency Beacon;" ie...a way of sending an SOS. Scenario: I was hiking off path, when I fell down a ravine. My cell phone won't work cuz I'm miles from the nearest antennae. My whistle only reaches a mile away, and I'm 5 miles from the trail. My mirror would work, but I'm in a ravine with a broken foot and can't climb. Also my light sticks and flashlight are only good at night. If I could hit a button on my GPSr and have it send an SOS, I'd be saved even if my GPSr said I was "such and such" footage off! 23. The Showcase Boyz (racing) travel bugs, have been released in Phoenix, all nine of them. They are in "Have Bug, Will Travel." Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
  24. I think bug hotels/depots/caches are a great idea, and I'd like to thank team C.H.U.M.P for allowing the Showcase Boyz to start off their travel bug race in the Have Bug, Will Travel geocache. The bugs were dropped off today (5/14/02) by Team Rex, while on vacation in AZ. Mike (The DirtMan) Pellerin aka Badger dirtman@iname.com Jason Dobson aka "Jay" "J" Myth8499@aol.com
