  1. For the price listed above, the PN-20 would be great. It comes with the Topo7 DVD so you can load whatever local area you want to.
  2. Have fun with it and don't hesitate to ask any questions. As Embra pointed out, there is a lot of help on the DeLorme boards if needed.
  3. I love my PN-20 for all aspects. I use mine for hiking, mountain biking, geocaching, etc. The maps are excellent and the best around. With the 800 character limit, in the comment field, you can put a lot of info in there. I am still using GSAK to import my waypoints into Topo7 and from there it is a breeze to upload your caches. I recently just did a 300 mile motorcycle trip and really had to use the PN-20 (mounted on the bars using the RAM mount) because the speedometer did not work so I used the PN-20 as my guide. Also viewing the smaller screen while riding was not an issue at all (I was slightly concerned about that but quickly went away as soon as I started out).
  4. They changed that a year or two ago. I forget the reason but if you search over at the Candlepower forums, you might find your answer.
  5. Posted here as well. With the 3DTQ's, I like the hybrid turned off. With the .sid, it really helped. I just did a 300 mile motorcycle trip with the PN-20 and had some of these on and it was easy to read while riding.
  6. I have been charging my 2700's @700 with no issues.
  7. I use the MAHA MH-C9000 CHARGER and it acts pretty much like the 900. I will not use a high charge but also nothing too low. For the AAA 800's I charge either at 400 or 500 and it never gets hot.
  8. Once again, while the screen size might be smaller, the maps are so good that it really makes up for a lot when looking at it.
  9. The DeLorme PN-20 is $299 which includes mapping. Hard to beat at that price.
  10. Just curious if you have ever seen/looked at the PN-20 screen? I'm with you on looking at the screen on my 60CS that I still have. After looking at the PN-20 then the 60, I get the same feeling.
  11. While the screen might be small, the maps are the best around and makes up for that smaller screen. It is, in some cases, better/easier to look at then a larger screen with crappy maps.
  12. I used the electronic compass all the time when I had the 60cs and when the PN-20 came out, I was kind of bummed that it did not have one. It turns out that the maps are so good I don't miss it at all and don't really need it. The screen size on the PN-20 is a bit small but once again with the maps being so good, it more than makes up for it (it is so easy to read).
  13. Weird. I always had that straight line on my Garmin until I started saving the track when I was done riding. I got so used to doing that, it has always been what I have done for the past 5 years or so.
  14. I usually save my tracks or turn off the track recording when done riding, exchange it to the PC and clean it up if I have to but never get those long straight lines like I used to on the Garmin. Try saving the track when done or just turn off the recording. The PN-20 will store up to 10,000 points no matte what. The Garmin will do only the 500 points if you rename it.
  15. To the best of my knowledge, this has been published a long time ago and is out of DeLorme's hands. I think that the author/s of GPSBable need more people to request it so they will write it. If I am way off on this, someone please correct me.
  16. Great unit. Ditto on the learning curve but if you just get the basics down, learning everything else will be a breeze. Don't hesitate to ask away.
  17. Another vote for the DeLorme PN-20. Hands down the best mapping around. The screen size might be a bit smaller than what you would expect but because of the clarity of it and the maps being so good, it acts almost like your "4x4 screen
  18. Have fun with it and stop on over at the DeLorme boards if you have any questions.

  20. It all depends on what kind of equipment the 911 center has. If I take a call from a person on a cell phone that is not from the area and I can not get that cell phone to come up on my map, then yes, I would gladly take the coordinates. We have what is called phase 2 with the cell phones. To us that means when a 911 call comes in, we get the phone number and a location on the map. Most of the time the location is pretty good as far as being accurate. It also depends on the cell phone and provider. The older cell phones are usually non-compliant and will never show a location on the map. One time we received 59 cell phone calls from some kids one morning. We were able to track them each time the call came in and it didn't take us long to figure out that they were on a school bus and on their way to school. Needless to say, when they got to school, there was a state trooper and an angry principle waiting for them
