The II+ does have a display the is like a map showing relative position of waypoint and displaying tracks, but it does not let you load road maps or topo maps into it. The III+ allow the upload of MapSource maps but it has a very limited 1.44 mb of map memory. If uploadable maps are not important the II+ is a great GPS. It gets great reception and has alot of nice features. It was my first GPS. I'll second that
  2. I have just hidden my first cache and listed the contents just to have a list of what I started with and so other people can see. It is not a list to try and lure people or anything like that. I will eventually remove the list from the cache page after a while.
  3. Definatley a neat program. Works good on my m130.

  8. I didn't think that you could put mapping on the venture. Only the MapSource Points of Interest CD.
  9. Most definaltely the Garmin III + or the V. If you need more memory go with the V. Works well with accessories. If $$$ is not an issue go with the V.

  13. Thanks for the reply. I already have R&R. Was looking to upgrade. I live an a rural area so maybe I can squeeze one on there. the 4.01 is the software version on the III+ right? Also the auto route function you mentioned about is it on the Metro Guide software or on the III+ its self? If it is on the III+ I did not know there was an auto route on the III+. Thanks Ben

  20. Some really good answers and comments, thanks. If there is a hard wire to it, lets say a II+, will the unit turn on as soon as there is power to it with out having to push the power button?
  21. I think I know the answer to this question (no) but I an going to ask anyway. Someone has asked me if there is a way to have a GPS unit power on when the power to a vehicle gets turned on. I.E. In a fire truck when you want to start the truck up you must first turn the batteries on. Is there a way to have the GPS unit power up after the batteries are turned on and with out having to push the power button on the GPS unit? My answer is no but on the slim chance I had to ask. Sounds confusing but I need to know for sure.
