  1. I guess that you have not heard about the $29.95 annual subscription. Download at will for 30 bucks sounds like it might only take a fingernail
  2. That is going to be a hard one because of different conditions. I do not have a Oregon so I would not be able to go out and do a side by side comparison. I do know that the 40 tracks very well. What I have in the past (and will continue to do) is after trancking, I will exchange the track to Topo and then select some aerial imagery and if any track needs cleaned up a bit, I do so. It is very easy to do if needed.
  3. Great choice. There is a slight learning curve because the software and unit are pretty powerful. Just start off with doing some basic map and waypoint transferring if you are not used to it. Don't hesitate to ask any questions here or at the DeLorme Boards.
  4. Extremely well. I finished up a 70 mile hiking trail using the that coveres open areas to deep canyons covered with trees. No issues.
  5. I don't have any large SD cards so I am not much help on the speed thing but the card I have is not a speedy card but it does not make any difference that I can tell, the 40 itself is fast. Go big or go home
  6. Another vote for the DeLorme PN-xx. With the aerial imagery and the upcoming geocache widget, this already is a great unit for caching but will be even better now. There is currently an 800 character that will be lifted so that will make this paperless. The mapping is the best around. I have used a III+, eTrex, eTrex Summit, Vista and a 60cs and now the PN-20/40. They all work, it just depends on what features you want. If it can display coordinates, then it will work just fine.
  7. I for one (and hopefully speak for the rest of the testers) really like the PN-40 and like to "pimp" it out because the 40 is a great device. If it were crap, we would not be having this conversation.
  8. I'm asking because I do not know but can you track yourself and save the track? Can you put waypoints on there? Have many many "draw" layers that can be turned on/off? Saved routes? Satellite imagery? Topo maps? Use it in places that don't have cell service/heavy tree cover? Does it come with a mapping program? I'm sure that I could ask more but I'll hold it here
  9. While the PN-xx's do have a smaller screen size, the maps are so good that it makes up for it.
  10. We are always (well almost) here to help. As Chip stated, ask any questions and we'll see what we can do for ya.
  11. Which brand are you referring to? If it is DeLorme, then yes, it is a great brand. More info here.
  12. Take a look at the DeLorme PN-40. It comes with everything you need right out of the box. Included is a certificate for aerial imagery, great for your hiking, camping, and beach needs!
  13. Chip has reported that the mid November ship date looks pretty good.
  14. You just described the very reason why you should get the PN-40, it's all about the outdoors! These are great for hunting, fishing etc.
  15. :werd: on what Slim and snow said. I'll throw in my $0.02 on the mountain bike aspect. Get the handle bar mount and forget about the rest. I love having the PN-xx on the bars, especially the 40 with the faster draw speed while viewing large aerial maps. Tracking your trails and then seeing them in Topo is very cool. Here are some screen shots of some trails that I tracked. PN-40 w/aerial PN-40 w/Topo Quad
  16. If you want nautical maps, you have to go with the DeLorme PN-xx. These work OK in the car (not like a dedicated car receiver) but excel in the outdoor arena, especially the maps (color aerial, nautical, hi-res, topo).
  17. As hard as it is, we all just need to sit back and wait. I just want a great product to be released when it is ready and not before. Having said that, whar's meh 40?
  18. I agree with this and I haven't been to the DeLorme website yet today. Had to get a haircut and I sure look nice! No news on the DeLorme boards as of this posting. I lost a battle with my clippers last night (#4 got the best of me ).
  19. We are not privy to that info and even if we were, I'm sure that we could not spill the beans
  20. For the uses that you are going to use this for, the DeLorme would be the way to go. It has all been said above but the mapping, speed redraw and satellite lock are very very good.
  21. Yes but you would be a happy dead guy buried with your 40
