  1. This was posted to a geocaching Facebook Group. It's not first hand information. I just thought it was interesting and was wondering what others thought about this. Are schools sending out individual "Safety Alerts" that truly track our location for profit and can advertise it publicly like Foursquare, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and thousands of others?
  2. In Texas a fence IS a no trespassing sign. So is a band of purple paint on a fence post (also often seen on trees or other objects). In Maine, two silver horizontal stripes painted on a tree is considered a No Trespassing sign also.
  3. Another Google search brings these up: http://coord.info/GCP90Y http://coord.info/GC1Y5Z3 http://coord.info/GC4NFTF http://coord.info/GC1F69Y http://coord.info/GC45BTV http://coord.info/GC3BJP2 http://coord.info/GC1N3NB http://hgcs.org/index.php/topic/8671-cache-adoption-near-baytown/ http://coord.info/GC4TNN0 http://coord.info/GC3WMAF http://coord.info/GC3ACWQ Would a wannabe reviewer place a throwdown? This one came up in the search, so I'm assuming the boilerplate note was on it at one time and has since been deleted.
  4. There's actually two categories that use that exact wording. Off-Leash Dog Areas and Arboretums For Arboretums they actually specify that you don't need to physically visit the site to post the waymark. It was brought up in this forum thread http://forums.Ground...howtopic=312642
  5. We surprised this guy while going to this cache http://coord.info/GC20VF5
  6. Stumbled upon this guy near http://coord.info/GC3VN3W
  7. I don't post a lot, but here is my instagram account: U_Mainah
  8. My current caching vehicle (Chevrolet Silverado): Taken about a week after I bought it near this cache: http://coord.info/GCJRHJ Taken near this cache: http://coord.info/GC4B47 The vehicle I had when I first started caching, the GeoRover (Land Rover Discovery): Taken at the trailhead of this cache: http://coord.info/GCPETB
  9. Simple search found this: http://hgcs.org/index.php/topic/1402-longest-since-last-find/page-54 http://coord.info/GC3B5CC http://coord.info/GC512F0
  10. Walmart carries these in their camping section for a decent price http://outdoorproduc...tertight-boxes/ They had a few different sizes and colors. They're kind of like an off-brand pelican knock-off. They don't seem to be for sale on their website, but they are cheaper in-store than what amazon has them listed for http://www.amazon.co..._pr_product_top
  11. See post #40 in this thread. This is essentially what they've done in their new Android Intro app. Hopefully they update their iPhone Intro app soon with this feature to have a consistent experience regarding logging.
  12. It's working for me right now.
  13. I posted a note to that one, and the other one nearby over a week ago in an effort to inspire people to request repair from earthcam. Today I received a LOG DELETION NOTICE, and saw that the CO who is managing the account archived it. The 3 recent selfies posted after it was disabled, are still up however. So much for trying to save it. It seems the CO account manager decided to Archive Beale Street it after deleting your note.
  14. An archive would not have lessened your find count. I'm guessing that you probably logged the same cache a few times accidentally and the CO only recently discovered it and deleted the two duplicates. You may be correct because I have found my post on that cache. I only got one notice though... how can I tell if two were deleted? You should get an email for each separate log that was deleted. Here are caches that you've logged more than once: http://coord.info/GCP37W http://coord.info/GC1XFW5 http://coord.info/GC1DQD7 Used this: http://project-gc.com/Profile/findbadlogs/?profile_name=Flyin%27SpiderFam&submit=Filter (not sure how up to date it is)
  15. Figured I'd start up this new subforum. I'm not a professional photographer, not even close. Typically I just have my phone with me, which is poor at taking photos, but it tries. Here are a few of my best low-quality, over-saturated photos I've taken while geocaching (these happen to be taken in instagram). What are some of your favorites? Following photo taken near http://coord.info/GC3AMJ0 Following photo taken near http://coord.info/GC4K87R Following photo taken near http://coord.info/GC4B47 All taken with my tired Samsung Galaxy Nexus
  16. Here's an article I just read that I thought fellow Waymarkers might find interesting. http://www.theverge....et-on-the-domes The San Jose domes are the focus of the article, but this one is also mentioned http://www.Waymarkin..._Los_Angeles_CA
  17. This is exactly what the new android Intro app does. It has no default log. Just a note that says "Now share your story and say thanks to the geocache creator. Pro tip: Try not to leave any spoilers in your log!" It then doesn't let you post a log until you put something in the field. You can however use the app without validating your email though.
  18. I think that putting the focus on "one another find" and thus numbers is the worst example that could be provided to beginners. ^^^^ This ^^^^ Trust me, I don't condone the default log, nor to I think this one is any better than the next. I do, however, believe that for the time being, it's not going to change and there's going to be a default intro app log whether we like it or not. The brand new Intro app for android doesn't have a default log. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=317127&view=findpost&p=5371073
  19. I know not all markers come under federal jurisdiction, I even mentioned it in my post. I just used the FOIA as an example. Each state has it's own equivalent to FOIA(each has varying levels of openness). For example where I am you can submit request under the Maine Freedom of Access Act. It applies to all state, county, and municipal levels of government. I am well aware of the usefulness of this board, but what planted the very seed for my question was the post asking about a DC Metro marker. I saw the post and went off to see if the WMATA had a database on their website. It turns out they don't, but while on their website I stumbled upon their Records Policy http://www.wmata.com/about_metro/docs/pi_9_3_1.pdf which gave me the idea to ask the question to the board.
  20. It seams Groundspeak has just launched their new Intro app for Android tonight. I've already tested it. It still allows unvalidated members to log caches with no way for COs to contact these new, unexperienced, members. There's no tutorial when you first sign in. The first thing it shows you is the map with whatever caches are around your location. There is a Help section that has links to the website that you have to seek out on your own in the pullout menu. One plus is it doesn't have a default log already filled out. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=321399
  21. This is just something I was wondering about. Has anyone ever submitted a FOIA request (either a federal request or through your local laws depending on who's marker it is) for more information regarding a benchmark that isn't in a public online database? It's not something I would encourage for our community since it'd mean the government would have to spend time(taxpayer money) on finding the information, but just something that popped into my head and figured I'd ask on the forums. I think some jurisdictions are allowed to charge a fee, but still. I've never submitted a FOIA request (or FOAA request for me in Maine) before, so I have no idea what would be involved anyways.
  22. Any thoughts on reviving the Fire Tower category proposal? I was excited to create a writeup with a better explanation for Fire Lookouts as a separate category but got caught up in Waymarking so many locations in other categories this past year that I haven't taken the time to choose better words and arguments for this potential category. But your inquiry has gotten me thinking about typing something up again and posting it here in the forum. I'll see if I can tacke this in the next week. Did you make any progress on this?
  23. I came across this one last summer. EAGLE MT
