Thanks for making your TYP programs available...with these front ends you're making it easy for people to create the necessary files...
Now could you "hack" Mapsource so we can upload TYP files with it instead of SendMap?
Hi rws!
You can now send TYP file with mapsource in your GPSr.
If you use MapSetToolKit, you just take your FID in hexa and convert your HEX in DEC. After you put in your TYP file this number in FID. After you put 1 in PRODUCTCODE.
This method with MapSetToolKit it's available 1.08 and more
I little bugs in MapSetToolKit 1.11 with ID in uninstall list. The ID is incorrect. ex: You see 3400, the good ID is 0034. The fix is makde, I finish my test tomorrow for this bugs.
Just compile your TYP. And your Happy, it's work great.

I can get the TYP modified map file to display in Mapsource but when I upload the map to GPSr it displays the original map not the TYP modified map. How do you get the TYP file to upload to GPSr with Mapsource?
Your TDB is made with MapSetToolKit?
if yes, can you send me your *.reg made by MapSetToolKit. If you want use TYP file with mapsource product, just give me a ID number in uninstall list please.
I will indicate what to you to enter in your ID HEADER of TYP file.
Procedure step-by-step (for mapsetToolkit 1.11)
1) Open MapSetToolKit: Take the hexa number of your mapset (ID). ex: 1200. Inverse hexa number (0012). Convert this number in decimal. The number is 18.
2) Edit [id] section of txt TYP-file
3) In ProductCode you write 1
4) In FID you write 18 (number in number one)
5) Compile TYP file with Mapsettoolikt or cgpsmapper
6) Edit with MapSetToolKit your mapset ID:1200
7) Fill TYP field with your new TYP file.
8) Go to Mapsource and select maps your can send to GPSr.
9) Open GPSr.
A new version of MapSetToolKit is coming soon. In this new version, the Id number in uninstall list will be a decimal number.

When you use Sendmap to upload maps to your GPSr do the maps you upload over write all exisiting maps on your GPSr the same as Mapsource does, or is there a way you can add addtional maps to the GPSr using Sendmap? I would think that it over writes them, but wasn't sure if it is Mapsource Software function that deletes all of your exisiting maps on the GPSr or a fucntion of the GPS. Just wanted a verification. Thanks.
overwrites just like Mapsource...
So if this is the case, how would you send the custom map and the Mapsource map at the same time?
yes, the autorouting is keeping with sendmap and yes, you can send custom map and Mapsource map at the same time.

I have several questions concerning using the .TYP file to create custom colored roads and trails in ones custom maps using only tracks and waypoints for a Garmin 60CSx. I already use GPSmapEdit and cGPSmapper but have never tried using the .TYP file to change the colors and graphics.
1. How do you open the .TYP file? When I open the cGPSmapper program as soon as I click on anything the opening page disappears. Everything works fine and I don't have any problems when I'm creating custom maps that I upload with Mapsource.
2. Can you still upload multiple custom maps with Mapsource when some of your custom maps are made with the .TYP file and some are not? Is the upload procedure the same as just using cGPSmapper?
3. What addtional steps are involved to customize your trail's color/graphics using the .TYP file?
I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.
Ed
1) You cannot open a compiled file TYP. You can open only TYP file not compiled (text file. Definition of TYP file)
2) yes and no. If you uses the garmin symbols, when you make your own maps to modifying the aspect of maps with a TYP, that work.
If you creates itself your own symbol (point/polygon/line), not recognized by garmin, your TYP file is necessary, because you will not see your point/polygon/line. For upload TYP file in your GPSr use sendmap20.exe.
3) Make your file TYP definition and after you compile it with CGPSMAPPER.
ex: TYP file not compiled
[_id]
ProductCode=9999
FID=12
[End]
[_line]
Type=0x12
UseOrientation=Y
String1=0x01,test
String2=0x04,test
BorderWidth=1
LineWidth=2
XPM="0 0 4 0",
"1 c #121212"
"2 c #232323"
"3 c #454545"
"4 c #567566"
[end]

Does your application eliminate the need to use GPSMapEdit and cGPSmapper? Do you still have to run the registry each time you create a new custom map? Can you give me more details on how the application works. I've been waiting for someone to come up with one program that will do the entire process of making transparent custom maps that are compatible with Mapsource. Any additional info. will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Ed
Yes and no. You make your own maps with GPSmapedit, after your take my application to generate TDB file, reg file (to add mapset in mapsource) and global map. My application use cgpsmapper in background. With my application, any peaple, can make your own maps, because your don't learn to make a pv file and make REG file.
Plus, my application convert TDB files make with cgpsmapper (Product TDB) to Families TDB.
After this convert, you can use TYP file in mapsource or GPS.
In the next version of the application, I will add the compilation of TYP file.

I tried your application...I got everything to work except the custom TYP does not work when map is uploaded to GPSr through Mapsource...it does modify my map in Mapsource but not when I upload to GPSr. To test the TYP and img file I loaded them directly to my GPSr with Sendmap20 and it modifies my map so I know the TYP works in my GPSr...now I need to figure out why it doesn't work whem uploaded through Mapsource. Can you help me figure out what's wrong?
Hi rws!
Mapsource don't tranfert TYP file in GPS. Use sendmap20.exe to tranfert your maps and TYP files in your GPs.
Next week, a new version will be available. (More validation, show Product code and ID for each mapset, compile TYP file)

I was hoping TYP would upload to GPSr through Mapsource. I got the impression it would by your previous statement:
"Plus, my application convert TDB files make with cgpsmapper (Product TDB) to Families TDB.
After this convert, you can use TYP file in mapsource or GPS."
I'm wondering what is the point of having a TYP modified map in Mapsource when it can't be uploaded to a GPSr through Mapsource?
I was badly explained then.
I agree with you, but it only way that I found to send a TYP file in the GPS is with sendmail20.exe. One day surely that mapsource will allow it I hope it.

Generate custom type file (TYP) - genTYP
in GPS technology and devices

Hi rws!
In your registry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\MapSource\Families\ontariotyp]
"ID"=hex:03,6e
Your hexa number is 036e. Reverse this number gives 6e03. (Resulat after invert is 6e03)
Your take 6e03 and convert in decimal: (Resulat is 28163)
Your take this cumber (28163) and fill FID in your txt typ-file.
Thats's it. You compile this file.
You can send multi maps product and multi TYP files to GPSr, it's work great with my tests
