  1. Where is it stated by Groundspeak that pathtags are a competitor? I'm curious & not trying to be sarcastic. I see a lot of posts stating that Groundspeak thinks one way or another but I have never seen the actual list of policies. I have to wonder sometimes if the opinion of Groundspeak is really just the opinion of some of more opinionated forum members. I'm sure you can understand my scepticism. If someone could provide a link to this list of policies, I would appreciate it. Also, what does IBTL mean?
  2. Pathtags aren't trackable in the same sense. All pathtags from one design have the Exact same code. This allows the finder to log their PT on the website & write a note to the creator. Distance, drops, visits, & retrieves can't be tracked. Not even close to the trackable nature of a geocoin. Therefore, not a competitor.
  3. I understand the examples of competing businesses. I work in a retail furniture store so I understand your point. However,if GC were to apply this same standard to all discussions then they should ban talk about cache containers that don't have the GC logo on it. If someone talks about a website they found that has cheap bison tubes wouldn't that have negative impact on GC bison tubes sales from GC.COM? If this was inforced, we wouldn't brew able to use anything for geocaching that didn't have their logo on it if they sold it. Pens, pencils, paper, water bottles, etc. If GC doesn't like pathtags then they should develop their own & actually compete with pathtags.
  4. Funny, I don't see them as competitors to geocoins since they aren't trackable. They are a tradable & collectable signature item which geocoins are not.
  5. So using QR codes is not banned but the word Munzee is? Why is that? I have never even heard that word used. And why does GC.COM care?
  6. You said the same in the last thread pup patrol. Erhard wrong with pathtags?
  7. I just read a thread in the geocoin section in which someone simply asked what pathtags are. There seemed to be a bit of hostility concerning pathtags because they aren't trackable & not officially recognized by GC.COM. The thread was then closed. In my opinion, they are simply the ultimate sig item. A pathtag is one out the few things I get really excited about when I find one in a cache. If they are a bad thing then we should condemn wooden nickels as well. What are your thoughts?
  8. Typically, pathtags are signature/swag item. They aren't trackable so feel free to keep it.
  9. All of the caches will be in about a 12 ft radius so the coords will be generally in the middle of them but not pointing to any certain one. In fact, I plan on stating that a gpsr would not be needed. I'm not going to make it a multi because no one is required to find more than one. There is not a final it is just a matter of finding the right container in a small area that has numerous hiding places. It certainly is not a letter box of any sort either.
  10. My containers are match stick holders. I could always see how it goes & disable or archive if I get complaints. The caching community around here knows that I maintain my caches very well. If someone reports a dnf I often run out the same day to check on it. If people don't like the cache I won't keep it around. I have never run into a decoy cache around here so it might be worth a try.
  11. So am I gathering that it would be best if I scrap my plans & just put a standard park & grab? I thought people would enjoy the challenge. But you are saying it would just be annoying to most.
  12. This is in a 10 ft. radius & I plan on being very upfront in my description about how it works. Also, the notes are on lamented cards. If someone signs that then it is obvious to everyone that they are a cheater. I am thinking that "puzzle" is the right way to go.
  13. I have found a unique small area that has several good hiding places. I am not a fan of park & grabs so I decided to create a cache for this area that was a little more challenging. I am going to hide 5 micros in this area. The searcher will need to rely on their geosense rather than their gps. Only one of these caches will have a log. The rest will have a note with a hint hopefully pointing them in the right direction. The searcher might get lucky & find the true cache on their first try or they might have to open four others first. I dont have the description written yet. So what do you think, traditional or puzzle?
  14. I have 2 small kids. My son is 6 1/2 & my daughter will be 4 next month. Since my non-geocaching wife & I have different days off if I want to go caching I have to take them along. They love geocaching & jump at the chance to go. My son has an amazing geosense. He often sees & calls out the hiding place before I even get my bearings. He is very useful on the hunt. The only problem is that my kids hate micros. They are all about the swag. They simply have to trade something when we find a cache & I never hear the end of it when we find an empty cache or a micro. It is getting harder to find decent regular size caches & we have had to leave a lot of micros in our area unfound. However, as I have mentioned earlier, my son has a nose for sniffing out the better hidden caches. He has a brief thrill in finding the cache but quickly whines when it is a micro. I have found a way to entice my kids into wanting to find the micros. I have agreed to pay them a quarter for every multi they help me find. Now they go nuts trying to find itwhile on the hunt. & then stand there holding their hands out while I finish signing the log. Have you going any creative ways to get your kids to enjoy finding micros?
  15. As I read this thread I asked my totally non-geocaching wife what she would consider an enjoyable geocache outing. She said it would have to be a VERY nice day with the temperature between 65 &72. No chills & no sweating! Very little wind, if any. She doesn't mind a little bit of a walk as long as the terrain is level or at least down hill to & from the car. The ground must be firm with out any rocks, roots, or branches to trip on. Also, no mud. If we are on a trail it must be paved. Ticks, mosquitos, spiders, or snakes must be totally removed from the area before she enters. The cache should be in plain sight or at least have a big X marking the spot where it is hidden. As far as swag, she only wants to find caches that are full of chocolate, donuts, diamonds, cute puppies, smelly bath stuff & lotions. She also says that she wouldn't getting gift certificates for an hour long massage. If anyone knows of a cache like this please let me know. I would really like to show my wife how much fun geocaching can really be.
  16. It is http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=c93fb01c-8bea-4eaa-aa1a-8d82c44adc2b# I have gotten a good number of finds & favorites. The QR code isn't in the description.
  17. I created a 4 stage multi-cache in a park nearby. Each stage is a match holder with a laminated card that has the coords & a hint for the next stage. On the first stage's card I have a QR code. When scanned it gives a phone #. When someone calls the number they will hear my voice giving them the coords for the final stage so they can skip over the other stages. The final stage is located only a few yards from the first stage. The funny thing is, no one has called the number yet.
  18. It looks like the problem with C:geo isn't an issue anymore. Since gc.com's update c:geo force closes every time I try to open it. I'm trying to use geo beagle now & i have realized how spoiled I was with cgeo. It was sooo easy to use!
  19. From the reviews that I read concerning the gc.com mobile app it appears to have a lot of problems. C:geo at least works & is free. If gc.com would actually be worth the $ I would gladly pay it. Right now it is just a waste of money.
  20. I use my HTC EVO with c:geo. It seems to work pretty well for me. Sometimes the coords are dead on & other times I'm way off. I don't have the spare change to spend on a gpsr right now do this will have to do for now. C:geo does the job but it links with the old maps so all my found caches show up. Very frustrating!
  21. I bought some REPEL MAX from walmart. I also got REPEL in the travel pen size to keep in my pack. It's 100% DEET so hopefully that will help. Can I get promethrin at outdoors stores our do I need to order it?
  22. Now you are starting sound like my wife. She is totally anti-outdoors.
  23. 'Tis the season for ticks!!! I am wondering if anyone has any good methods for repelling ticks. The last couple times my kids and I have had to do some bushwhacking we have come out with ticks crawling on us and we have had several bites. This was after spaying ourselves liberally with OFF! With the risk of Lyme disease I don't want to take any chances. Does anyone have any suggestions on how keep the ticks away?
  24. Very cool tb but I can understand why no one would want to lug that around. You wouldn't have to worry about some one stealing it unless they wanted the scrap iron. It reminds me of a tb I saw pictures of that was attached to a tire. I can't find the page for it.
