  1. Some do. I'm in Ontario, Canada and I find the black dog bags smell like baby powder. The type like in the photo (rolled up), that I've bought are odorless. Neat, I'll have to keep an eye out for them. Around here most people hang them from trees. It used to be that the poo was kicked in the woods or left in the trail, but now that dog walkers have to pick it up, they tend to use bags and toss them in the woods. It's not limited to one area, but very widespread. Nowadays a walk usually entails noticing bags of poo hanging from trees. Needless to say I think they are lousy trade items.
  2. There still are a significant amount of people that could complete it, so it's still viable, and the CO may also choose to hide more qualifying caches in the future, so I don't think it's hurting anything by staying active.
  3. I'm certainly glad to hear that. Hearing stories about reviewers resigning or retiring due to a reversed decision above their heads is slightly disturbing.
  4. Inside a business was always assumed to mean indoors, so there was no confusion. Now the definition is changed to outside, but inside a RV park, being inside a business, but not including a business parking lot. I don't think they will ever stretch it to include business parking lots, as too many would get upset, and this would block many new people from seeing a geocache nearby on their map.
  5. I have a few that were auto archived by Groundspeak. There are containers at each spot, but they are either waiting permission, or page write ups. For some reason I cannot locate where they are listed. Where is it?
  6. Some muggles do have a very high viscosity, especially in regard to their brain matter, so that's not far off!
  7. That's kinda what I'm getting at, without being so brazen as to say it straight out. The risk of having visitors at the wrong hours is mostly during the FTF period. One interesting solution could be to intentionally publish it with coords 300 feet off and with no hint. Then when morning comes, correct them. Whoops! I did it once but not on purpose. By mistake I published the cache around 200m from where it was supposed to be. Still, on that same night there was an FTF (he didn't seem too happy, though). We have quite die hard FTFers in this part of the world Yeah they figured out which digit was wrong. You have to make multiple digits off, and leave no hint. Post the initial coords for the dumpster in the parking lot. The cops will think they are large raccoons.
  8. Sometimes it's rather obvious that an NA is warranted. A chain of DNFs, notes that someone removed it, cachers logging a strip of Velcro for 2 years, or a pile of paper pulp. An NA does not archive it, only asks someone to take a closer look. If it needs to be archived it doesn't matter who posts the note.
  9. Wow, someone else now thinks that fake hand grenades are good ideas for geocaches. From close up it looks fake, but have it spotted by a LEO some distance away in connection to a suspicious person report and there could be some problems... Not a good idea for a cache but i did get a laugh out of the ebay description. Not quite sure why that thing would be so hard to spot. It doesn't sound like Sneaky Pete is a genius.

  12. Is the Pennypack Trail named after this guy? No no, that's H.E. Pennypacker, the wealthy American industrialist. I thought it was Van Nostrand, the railroad magnate.
  13. Penalties? They change your password and dont tell you what it is.
  14. What about this one? http://coord.info/GC9C88 I've been planning a trip to Pittsburgh and noticed this has been disabled for 9 months because the CO cannot find a throwdown.
  15. Yeah, I've found several NY caches in which the permit had expired. The rangers, as well as the geocachers, do not seem to be concerned about it either. Some of the geocachers were not active anymore, and the rangers were not actively seeking archival. I'll probably leave 1000 QR code stickers out there just to see what happens.
  16. There's apparently different railroad entities. Privately owned, and government owned. Since Septa owns this, they are the only ones that have say. I just don't want to be on another part of the track and run into the same officer that warned me once already. That scenario doesn't usually end well. If he's simply being reactive without any legal basis then it's s different story.
  17. Exactly. Not every cache is potentially going to be someone's first, and especially lonely caches. If it is, they need to learn to read the logs. When I watched Splinterhead, I was surprised to see that the movie included a screenshot of the website. That seemed to go beyond the premise of simply introducing geocaching, to promoting it. Now, I don't think there is anything wrong with that, only that it indicates that someone was using the movie as a promotion tool. The next thing I noticed was the girl, Galaxie, had hidden a cache on the ground. Justin wanted to hide it in a tree, but Galaxie said that she wanted people to find it. Seemed pretty much that there was an agenda there, and they were catering to enticing people to join, making them believe that it was simple. They could have had them embark on a 5/5 adventure with highly evolved cache containers, but that never happened. That would have enticed some real creativity, but instead we have a movie geared towards 14-24 year olds, with the 24 year olds likely being stoners. Rotten tomatoes rates it a 1.5 There's much more than keeping everything in first or second gear with ammo cans full of toys for tots.
  18. I believe hers is a 2005, and at 6'3", I still fit fine with about 3 inches of head room, although I must put the seat all the way back. I don't think the newer ones are as good though. There's plenty of track still through the Wharton a State forest, and that's long abandoned and owned by the state. However the incident mentioned in the original post was in PA. I don't think there's anything wrong with the placement, although surprised that the RR still owned it. Perhaps contact with a representative to inquire about using it as a walking trail is needed.
  19. Yikes. Aside from the 6 disabled on the same day that I posted in NJ, and the one in Oregon, there are likely to be plenty more, and well over a few hundred. Keystone has stated that it's an ongoing policy which I suspected from the beginning, and I certainly did not intend to pick on OReviewer who seems to be doing a good job otherwise, but just bring attention to the process. We can only hope that they might use a little more discretion before disabling, although they have made no indication of that so far. Lonely caches are more challenging and enjoyable IMO, and I hate seeing the game dumbed down to the age level of kids who are too young to use the site in the first place..
  20. All you need to do is to run some fishing line between two skyscrapers and dangle a bison tube from a earth magnet.
  21. I find it unusual that a reviewer would take it personally enough to quit, and have no idea why such a decision could affect them to that extent. Everyone makes mistakes, and if they don't believe that they do, they certainly should not be a reviewer. Likely the cache owner has much more vested time and energy in it than they do.
  22. Well out of the list I provided, I would do it in this order: 2,4,1,3. The frisbee rule says that anywhere frisbee is allowed, geocaching should be fine. Although there are some parking lots where frisbee would create a problem.
  23. I'll be sure to let my girlfriend know you liked her rack. It's a Thule.
  24. Cuz that hadn't been mentioned already, eh? Repetition aids learning! For those who have not heard, remember that posting an owner maintenance log will clear away the needs maintenance symbol. Yes, but after asking here about it, he still hasn't done it. An NA was posted on one hide because it "hasn't been found in three months", and he hasn't answered the disablement.
