  1. Well done Mr Nibbler. I have seen your name and your 2 sons in the log books of many of the caches in my local area. Hope to bump into you on the trail one day. We're not far behind you, we have found 62 since May of this year.
  2. Thanks for the advice and the welcome. Although a little skiing is on the cards, we will primarily be taking in the scenery and sights within driving distance of Frisco. And of course we're all looking forward to spending Xmas American style. If we can fit in some caching, well that's just a bonus.
  3. Hi All, My family and I will be vacationing in Frisco, Colorado for Christmas this year. We have been invited to stay with relatives and this will be our first visit to the States. We live in Cambridgeshire, UK. We've been told that there may be plenty of snow around. Can anyone tell me whether it possible to Geocache in this area at Xmas time, or would a shovel and a certain amount of digging be required? Can anyone from this area recommend any caches? Any advice would be gratefully received. Mike of Daytribe.
  4. Hi Gary, Thanks for your input. You made something a little clearer for me. Autorouting is supposed to work on the 60. At least it says so in the manual and even tells you how to do it. And autorouting has worked for me in a very limited way. I have had some directions. However, after reading your post, I now see exactly what it has been doing. Even though I have my Metroguide maps loaded, the autorouting function is following the basemap. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for a copy of City Select. Unless anyone is getting rid of a copy they don't want. Cheers, Mike.
  5. So is City Select compatible with my GPSMAP 60 and will it fix my autorouting problems?
  6. Ah, that's a shame. So is City Select loadable onto this GPSr if I can obtain it. If so, I will keep an eye on ebay.
  7. I would like to use the Autorouting function on my GPSMAP60 and so far I have been unsuccessful. As a test I am trying to plot a route from my home address to another address about 20 miles away and all I get is an "as the crow flies" route and not following the roads. I have loaded onto the unit, the map sections from Metroguide UK that more than cover the area in question. On the Routing Setup page I have set Guidance Method to Follow Road. Ideally, I would like to able to follow the route on the Highway page. Can anyone tell me if there is something I have missed or another option I need to set.
  8. Thanks, that's a great help. I am able to make a much more informed decision now.
  9. As someone who has used these products, would you say that having the house numbers is vitally important and outweighs the memory concern? I may want to plan a route from one address to another. Can you still plan a route without the house numbers and just use the road names?
  10. So there is, I must have got my wires crossed on that one. It might be just what I'm looking for after all. Thanks.
  11. I recently bought a Garmin GPSMAP60 to help with my Geocaching exploits and I have a couple of questions. Firstly, am I missing something or is the basemap only supposed to be a very rough guide. If I go for a drive with my GPS mounted on the dash and afterwards check the track onscreen, it only seems to roughly follow the road. The unit itself seems to be very accurate and I am really pleased with it. If I check my waypoints against Google Earth it's very impressive. Secondly, I want to purchase some mapping software to further improve the mapping on my GPS. I have the option of purchasing one of the following: Secondhand: Mapsource Roads & Recreation Europe V4 or New: Mapsource Metroguide Europe V7 How much more detail am I going to get if I purchase either of these. I live in Cambridgeshire and it would be nice to see some local roads. I've had a look at the Garmin MapSource Map Viewer and for my area Metroguide Europe doesn't appear to have any more detail than the basemap. I can't seem to find any screenshots of Roads & Recreation but I have read in the forums that it is very good. I would be very grateful for any comments and advice anyone can offer. Thanks, Mike.
  12. Thank you CompuCash. This makes things a little clearer. To clarify though, my interest is purely personal and not for any commercial reason. I simply thought it might be interesting for members to see how the interest in their beloved sport is spreading in their country (i.e. the number of new registrations per week) and to be able to compare it's progression in other countries.
  13. Hi, My family and I started Geocaching a few weeks ago and we are all hooked. In fact we've just taken out Premium Membership. The website is great and very helpful. I have one request for a new feature though. On the front page of the website you have a section which looks like this: There are 177399 active caches in 214 countries. In the last 7 days, there have been 118387 new logs written by 22007 account holders. Is it possible for this section to also include the number of new user registrations/premium member registrations in the past 7 days. Maybe even broken down by country too. Thank you and keep up the good work. Daytribe (Mike, Caroline, Kyle and Rhianna from Cambridgeshire, UK)
