  1. Daytribe cache as a family. I am the only one of the tribe that visit the forums and I am M (you can probably tell from the picture to the left of this post) .
  2. Oh, I see now. I might have to give that one a try.
  3. This is the link for theÄnglamarken cache. complete it and add this armchair cache to your figures Sorry, is this for me or is it in the wrong thread?
  4. I saw this and thought others might be interested. http://web.telia.com/~u32007998/geocache/e...scache_eng.html It could be useful as a teaching aid or just demonstrating Geocaching to friends. What do you think?
  5. I have had a Pocket PC for about 3 years now (since before I began Geocaching) and have tried paperless caching a couple of times. I find that it actually takes longer to prepare the cache information and maps for downloading to the PDA than it does to hit print and wait for the paper to come out. Having said that though, I agree with Alibags. A comparison chart would be very useful for newbie and seasoned cachers alike. To some extent we are all experts in our hobby/sport, however we choose to do it. So who better to do it. We can all contribute. (Any takers with webpage space and the knowledge to create a chart). To simplify things though: This subject could combine three areas; GPS, PDA's & in-car sat nav. Most of us already have a GPS and we can all read a map (well, nearly all ) to get close to the cache. So to keep it simple, lets stick to the actual paperless caching bit. I use a Pocket PC (£180 new) (before I knew about ebay) GPXSonar (Free) (Software for viewing your cache detail pages) Memory Map Ordnance Survey (£10-£20 s/hand on ebay) (for downloading OS maps to PDA for viewing in the field) Is this helpful?
  6. We started 27th May this year. We've found 69 dude! And we've hidden 2. Our first was St. Andrews in Sutton. We did it without a GPS. We ordered our GPS online that night and it couldn't come quick enough for us. We were itching to go and find some more. We always go as a family (I've done about 3 of the 69 on my own). We've been to some really interesting places, been stung (by plant and insect), soaked through, had mud up to our armpits and caught out in the dark in a forest without a torch. We've all enjoyed every minute. This has been the best summer I've had since I were a lad. Looking forward to our 100th and many more!
  7. Don't know what you're on about!!! That's a great picture. I have got to ask. What was the story behind this picture?
  8. I have an Ipaq which I use for storing just about everything, listening to music and occasionally watch a movie. I worry about taking it caching though cause of water, mud and danger of dropping. How do you find/handle it?
  9. That's an excellent one. And of course if it's not wet out, you can use it for CITO.
  10. A penknife, forgot to mention that. I carry one too.
  11. We always put the kids in wellies. Well, now it's wet out anyway. I've been thinking of investing in a stick with a point too, Mrs B.
  12. We tend to go Geocaching as a family (all four of us) and most of the following generally goes into one rucksack slung over good old Dad's back. GPSr (Garmin GPSMAP60) Printout of Cache details (not gone paperless yet, the missus likes something to write her calculations on, and she always does an excellent job) Camera Zambuk (antiseptic cream) Plasters Offerings for the God of the cache Pen Munchies (also very important) Lastly, and probably most importantly, a pocket sized packet or two of tissues (indispensible, if you know what I mean) If it's obvious that it's going to be an extra long hike, we'll take another rucksack with food and drink for a picnic (not so much now it's colder). But generally we try to take as little as possible. What do you take?
  13. Aha, I'm on the calendar now. It helps if you read the instructions first.
  14. I can't grab it, it says: Sorry. The Travel Bug code does not match. The code is TBKHWM isn't it?
  15. Count me in: Mike of Daytribe - 29th October
  16. If you think it is cheating then you are taking life too serious Milton (aka Moote) Oh, don't get me wrong. I don't have a strong opinion on it either way. It was just an off the cuff remark. I only really wanted to know what a virtual visit was anyway.
  17. Interesting idea, but isn't that sort of like cheating?
  18. Occasionally I see logs on caches that say they are a virtual visit. Sometimes they are even dropping off a virtual TB. What does this mean and how does it work?
  19. I got 2 to replace the ones the missus stole 10 years ago!!
  20. I haven't experienced any of the problems I have been reading about above. I think this is an excellent idea. It's just a shame I can't see more people in my area.
  21. We're on the map now! I hope this catches on. It would be really interesting to see how many cachers are from our neck of the woods.
  22. We're planning to do The Drain Game in the Fens of East Anglia tomorrow morning. This will complete the 2nd page of caches close to our home.
  23. I totally agree. While I feel that the Congratulations messages are important, it does become difficult sometimes to filter through to the more interesting threads. There is a pinned thread at the top of the screen for this kind of message which I think is best used by following SlytherinAlex's post therein: " Surely the way to run this pinned thread is for one person to post that a particular cacher has passed a particular milestone and anyone who wishes to congratulate that person can send them an email. This way each milestone takes up one post, keeps the thread uncluttered and it makes it easier for Deego to keep his Hall of Fame up to date."
  24. I had the same problem with my GPSMAP60. Once I got hold of a copy of Metroguide Europe and uploaded it to the unit, this replaced the basemap and I had spot on accuracy. The base map doesn't seem to be very accurate and is seems to be more of a guide. I'm relatively new to this myself and there are others more experienced than me who may want to add to this or elaborate.
