  1. I work for a department for Guys and Tommies trust. I'm a biochemist though, so although I spend half my time typing reports, we don't get decent computers to do it on - they all go to the IT staff!
  2. thanks motley. I do indeed use GSAK. So would a suitable method be (for example) to filter for caches that haven't been updated for a while (say 3 weeks?) and then just view the online cache page to check and download the updated file? Thanks Dave
  3. Well, isn't that just typical! What a bl**dy stupid way of doing things. I don't suppose a chap called Johnson is responsible? (for any Terry Pratchett fans...) A good point there pharisee, and I may go for regular updates (ewww - more date PQs to set up). Or I may just rely on previous logs/DNFs - bit risky but...
  4. I won't try any more then! My computer at work (one of the better ones) is a 333Mhz desktop with 160 Mb of RAM.... still, thats the NHS for you! I have computers at home with better spec that i rest my feet on under the desk!
  5. i may be missing the point here, but why would anyone want anything APART from an etrex yellow? (as it happens, I have an etrex camo - no idea if there's a difference apart from the paint job!) Mine does everything i could possibly want it to do!
  6. i'm afraid i look silly enough tramping through gorse and stinging nettles with my big stick. The addition of a large H on my forehead is frankly not going to happen!
  7. happy to share - when i have a spare moment in the evening (I'm supposed to be working at the mo.. ) I'll post all the dates i use - then everyone can tell me where I've gone wrong and that I'm missing out an enormous number of updates! re the Autoroute bit - can i do that the other way round? what I'm thinking is plotting a route on autoroute (going on hols or whatever) and then importing that into gsak so that i can tell it to give me all caches within x miles of the route. Its either that calculate coords for a hideously complicated arc! and i don't think i've got the patience for that!
  8. having followed markandlynn's excellent instructions, i managed to construct 16 queries to get me ALL the uk caches, and have now cut those down to about 8 PQs to get me all the caches updated in the last week. I believe that I should have everything covered in less than 10 queries. All of these are saved on my palm, so i never need to worry about whether I have cache details with me, and if I stop at a random place on the way somewhere, I can do a find nearest on the GPS knowing i'll have the details with me. By the way, does the 'arc' filter work well on GSAK, and can i use autoroute (yeah, its an MS product...) to define a route for it? Dave
  9. We're in, we're in!! <waving arms frantically in air> A great idea Dave and Mary (aka purple_pineapple)
