  1. Looks like the Cullman/Hanceville, AL area, which after yesterdays storms and tornados caching may be low on the priority list. Hope all is well for you. Come on over to www.dixiecachers.com and we can get you headed in the right directions...
  2. How about offering an option screen that allows you to run what you are interested in, check boxes like the google map feature. Default is the least amount of stuff, then you can choose x-# of extra options per run and limit the number of runs per account. Maybe once every seven days like the my finds pg?
  3. GC105GF is likely the closest, uses Mrs. Bakers marker and is on the way into the Space museum, GCV7Y7 is in the nearby hotel parking lot, GCX07C my night cache over on the UAH campus, GC15W25 in the Landry's parking lot, GC15QQ7 is a nice tb hotel, GC17DZH is at the nearby botanical garden, it's in the parking lot area so as long as the gate is open it's fine, you don't need to pay an entrance fee to find the cache. However, if you check out the current offerings you may decide to take an hour and see the dinosaurs. http://www.hsvbg.org/ GCTZBE if you want a touch of history, I live in the area so several of those are mine. If you are coming down 65 there are caches at most of the rest areas and plenty along the way if you want some short jaunts off the highway. If you'd like to add TN to your list, Nashville has plenty of the old virtuals. GC1A4KH This is an earthcache not too far off the interstate at the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge, the center has some interesting info pertaining to the waterfowl the use the area in the winter time. GCNWHH A bit further off the road but if you are familiar with EWTN and Morther Teresa....or just want to see a castle in Alabama it's worth the stop. Check the picture gallery. http://www.co.cullman.al.us/Press/attractions_shrine.htm
  4. Just curious if anyone else was having problems viewing that site or knew if it was gone for good? I get one of those expired domain type pages. www.itsnotaboutthenumbers.com
  5. The last time I was out there caching wasn't even around. I recall that it was about 100 miles from where we crossed the park boundry to where we finally ended up camping. Gas was very expensive at the camp store then so I bet it's just as painful now. We took the back country road, horrible washboard road but the scenery out there was great. The stars and solitude were amazing. Be sure to go up top of the hill to check out the change of scenery. It's a great place.
  6. You won't find much in the way of virtuals in Huntsville, only one active that I can think of and it's not near the Space Center. There are a few regulars close by. I own one in the Landry's Parking lot: GC15W25 Something like 80 caches within 3 miles of that one, including a night cache that is also mine. If you have questions about specific ones feel free to ask. Can't help with Gulf Shores as I've not been down that way.
  7. Looks like the OP needs to preform some further research: Humour or humor (see spelling differences) is the ability of people, objects, situations or words to evoke feelings of amusement or happiness in people. The term derives from the humoral medicine of the ancient Greeks, which stated that a mix of fluids known as humours (Greek: χυμός, chymos, literally: juice or sap, metaphorically: flavour) controlled human health and emotion. A sense of humour is the ability to experience humour, although the extent to which an individual will find something humorous depends on a host of variables, including geographical location, culture, maturity, level of education, intelligence, and context. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humor
  8. Be sure to stop by www.dixiecachers.com that's where the AL crowd can be found.
  9. I contacted Ed who contacted Ronnie and was told that it is taken care of, should be back to normal shortly.
  10. Did someone miss the notice to renew the domain name???
  11. Check the Jonesboro area, great camping sites nearby and caches too! GC149WR just to get started for Jonesboro Don't skip this multi GCTCV0 And one to get you in and around Craighead Forest Lake GCWYTA GCV1H1 at the nearby Crowley's Ridge Natue Center, make sure to watch the movie And if you are feeling really adventurous they have a mosquitto festival at Lake Poinsett State park near Harrisburg. A cooking comp that uses skeeters in the recipes. Never been myself. A cache at the sp GCT3P9 Not the Northeast but The Arkansas Geocaching Association is having a get together at Lake Catherine State Park 5/31 GC197P5 http://arkgeocaching.org/
  12. "Correct me if I am wrong." I think that the second post took care of the first part. Guidelines change. There are several out there that are on private property that are indeed buried or required a pointy object to place, one for sure requires a shovel to find.
  13. Another nod to our states group of cachers. Very supportive and helpful group. Since before I started chasing caches they have worked as a group and as individuals with the various state and local offices as well as area land managers building relationships that allows everyone to play in so many great places across the state. Come see Alabama the Beautiful and find a cache or two along the way.
  14. Homer Hickam, author, cacher, and really nice guy.
  15. There is a wealth of virtuals in the area. The cache with Chet Atkins downtown is good GC927E. The cache in Printers Alley was fun to do at night, with help of one of the ladies.... It's hard to swing a dead cat and not hit a cache in Nashville, nice area. Nearby GCED16. The Brad has a couple of webcams GCMF4B. Depending on your time GC643 is a good spot but is currently missing.
  16. Any dive shop down there or US Marine Store should have a Pelican, not so sure about the Otter brand. As stated, have them ship to you directly. http://www.otterbox.com/
  17. One of the nick names is Mogadishu on the Mississippi. There are some bad spots in Memphis it self. I get through there several times a year. I've seen it change a lot. Sleepy little towns like Collierville, Olivebranch, and Germantown have experienced huge growth with the typical traffic mess. Lots of commute communities in the surrounding areas. I find it a nice place to visit with lots of good places to eat, things to do and see but, not a place that I would choose to live. Big city life and the associated problems just aren't for me. It would be worth taking a weekend or several day trip to make your own opinion. There are casinos about 30 minutes south in Tunica, MS that would be a good place to base from.
  18. Not such a great place to watch a sunset if you have to hightail it out of the park before the sun has completely set. Edit: added quote box Should be just fine to watch a sunset since dusk occurs after the sun has set. The cache owner is the final say and if the page says the park is closed after a certain time so be it.

  20. On the google map search page I've noticed an issue in viewing caches. With both my finds and my caches checked to hidden there should be around 200 caches for me to view. If I move the scale bar to around the 7th mark on the slide it gives the red banner that says your search exceeds 500 caches. If I continue to expand the area the banner changes to adjust your zoom level to view caches. Moving the scale back to 5-6 it will show the caches. After looking at the caches with the numbers option turned on I'm guessing that the program is "seeing" all the caches in the area and the number exceeds 500 even though with the options checked the viewable total should be less than that. This occurs in both IE and Firefox.
  21. Buzz Off! No, really, take a look at the clothing. Or Mumz. http://www.buzzoff.com/ http://www.allrepellents.com/2006/07/mumz-...garden-apparel/

    Palm m500

Cussing is using profanity or "four letter" words like the word hell in your first post. It may be a bit frustrating the first time but it will get easier once you work the kinks out. Do you have a pocket query set to be sent and the pq.zip file on your computer? You will need to unzip it first to use the info. With gsak open if you go to the unzipped pq and double click it should load in gsak. Read the screen fields. From there it really isn't any trouble to use the pull down menu under FILE, choose export, then the file type that is associated with plucker. I use cachemate, gsak creates the files and they are placed in the hotsynch program waiting for me to hot the hs on the palm.
  23. http://stuff.co.nz/4399742a10.html Computer game causes Auckland bomb scare | Wednesday, 13 February 2008 A bomb scare caused by a computer game closed a busy part of downtown Auckland today. Mayoral Drive was closed between the intersections of Wellesley St West and Cook St after a package was seen being strapped to a railing at the rear of the Aotea Centre about 3.50pm. Motorists were asked to stay away from the area while the Defence Force bomb squad was called to examine the package. Senior Sergeant Junior Abraham told NZPA the call to police was made by Aotea Centre security staff who saw somebody acting suspiciously around a railing before then planting the device. A quick view of closed circuit camera footage was enough to convince police to call the bomb squad, he said. While the area was blocked off, an employee from nearby Datacom came to police and told them the device was a geocache, a tracking device used by computer buffs. Further investigations were made to confirm this and the alert was lifted around 6.30pm. Mr Abraham said the device was harmless but whoever planted it should have known better. "If they are going to place these devices around the city of Auckland they should not be going to public places and buildings like the Aotea Centre," Mr Abraham said. -NZPA

The M500 is a good starter and will serve you well. The cradle that I have is serial as well but I think a couple of the newer styles have usb available. Lots of those items on eBay, just read the descriptions closely and don't pay too much in shipping. I've since upgraded to a color screen and faster processor with a Tungsten but have had to fall back on the other when someone forgets to charge the battery. GSAK makes it all real easy for me, as I understand there are a couple of similar programs.
