  1. Look for events in your area. Go to them and mingle with the other cachers. Most folks are plenty helpful and you can make arrangements for cache runs, tours of certain caches, help for those that you've dnf'd, make new friends, any and all sorts of help. Good luck.
  2. Hamsters. Hamsters are not in the spirit of geocaching, they are in the spirit of Hamstercaching. The two are often confused. Seems most of the "spirit of" issue are harkening back to the good old days when you had to drive some distance to take a hike to find a cache or make a stop at an interesting spot. Now, most any big box parking lot or fast food stop may have one stuck in a uninteresting place. So be it. The find remains the same but the journey to it seems to be what has changed. Things do change, not always for the better. Most of the angst can be relieved by filtering for what you personally enjoy and not be bothered with all those "lame" caches and letting the rest get on getting on.
  3. Huckle buckle seems to be popular around here.
  4. If you have a shredder they cut great nano log sheets too....as long as it's not the cross cut style.
  5. Another cacher and I were talking about the downtime and he mentioned a mirror set of servers on another continent. A seperate but equal set of data that would be available even if something happened in Seattle. I'm not tech savy enough to know if being on another continent is needed or if just on the other side of the current one would be sufficent. Either way, if there were two or more places that the data could be accessed would that also help with the other issues that seem to be speed and volume of user related?
  6. You may have better luck trying our regional forum at http://www.dixiecachers.com
  7. Ellicot Stone is on my todo list. GCKWVW
  8. Neither is in the approved hardware list and I asked a similar question there. Saw a refurb 750 for $180 so I'm curious about using it.
  9. It is mentioned in a couple of posts that the Nuvi 500 works, is it just the 500 or any models above 500? Is there something to look for that the 500 has that say the 200 doesn't?
  10. Looking at BurrButt (only 5 finds) that user and The Biggest Dog logged a cache on 11/25/06. TBD has 162 finds, they might recall the container if you can provide a picture.
  11. Try www.dixiecachers.com, that's where most of the AL cachers hang out.
  12. How about carrying a bike? Have the taxi take you to the farthest one you want to attempt then bike your way back to town caching along the way.
  13. Hi Racheal and welcome to Geocaching. You can take a look at the lead topic in this forum for a list of local organizations, one I would suggest is http://www.getgc.org/ Tell Katie aka Better Half I said Hi! and don't take anything BBB says seriously.
  14. I've found a few at small airports, even had the folks wave as they see me signing the log. It's all about permission. Heard from one of the locals that they have permission, with restrictions, to place caches on an open military base in GA. They've worked with the outdoor rec/morale folks that are pro-geocaching. As long as the reviewer knows then it should fit the guideline in either case.
  15. For whatever reason shortly after the event ended the page link stopped showing in the list, all the other events and caches were still there and there was even a place showing the tb's, coins, jeeps, etc, just no link. It shows just fine in profiles under the recent finds or will attend, etc. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...2c-534059d5b7bb Looks like it's working this morning.
  16. Not the same, this is a Coins and Pins product called a Personal Geo-Dog Tag, obviously not a coin but thought someone else may have the location for activation. I've all ready sent C&P an email. Thanks anyway.
  17. Just picked up a geo-dog tag for my 4-footed geo buddy from the coins and pins store at GW7. Tried a forum search but the three letter/word rule hangs it up. Didn't see the coin listed at coin.codes.com and was curious where to get the code? Didn't see the coin on the C&P site neither. If all else I'll contact C&P next week when they get back to the office.
  18. Hi there. Not many AL folks venture into these forums. Come on over to www.dixiecachers.com and you will find all sorts of B'ham area cachers.
  19. It's not a Purse it's a Murse! you've got to use the right terminology Well, I was thinking that it would make a good diaper bag. What's a man diaper bag called? depends................
  20. Looks like a lot of places are holding on to the MSRP $399.99 price but both EMS and Amazon show a lower price. $295.50 with a free shipping option at Amazon.
  21. It's a liars cache, you tell a story based on the info provided in the cache. Likey to be considered an ALR and no longer allowed as a HAVE to do part of the cache.

  23. Don't base the cost of anything on eBay that you don't know about. They count on that and anything that is heavy just can about double cost. Cans can cost $4-10 at most military surplus, flea markets, and places like Gander Mtn. Check with other local cachers on the NC forum about local availabilty: http://www.ncgeocachers.org/index.php
  24. Yes, Sioneva there is a small armchair.....and matching table too. 3-1/4"H x 1-3/4"D x 1-3/4"W https://www.minishop.com/motts/shopexd.asp?id=62184 Greetings from down yonder.
  25. I tried the homeopathic drops last year and have been using them again this year. I went in very sceptical and was surprised to see only a few small outbreaks. Often times only a few blisters and no itching, that I can live with! Technu is a great product that could use a fragrance additive but is cheap enough to keep in the pack and truck for quick grab and clean applications. My only complaint is that the bottles are weak and will crack after a short time. It's nasty enough when this happens in a shirt pocket but really is gross in a door pocket or pack. The bottles go into ziplocks right from the get go now. I've not tried the high dollar Zanfel, at around $30 a tube but when, sadly not if, I get another reaction I'm going to give it a go. Bleach? I've heard folks using swiming in the neighborhood pool and bleach/chorline-like compresses to break down the compounds. A great resource can be found here: http://poisonivy.aesir.com/view/welcome.html
