  1. I had a little accident Saturday. It still stings a bit.
  2. I met Snoogans last month...that doesn't look a thing like him.
  3. Now that the question has come up, how do you get tricked into being a forum moderator? Actually, I told that story at GeoWoodstock this year. "Tricked into" isn't far from the truth. I had just had all four wisdom teeth extracted the day before. It was the typical "impacted and chiseled out" horror story that you've heard a million times. I was still on some pretty amazing pain killers when I checked my email and found a letter from Heidi asking if I'd like to help out. Well of course I would, Heidi! It was basically Groundspeak's attempt to "slip me a mickey." Let that be a lesson to you youngsters out there! If you're on awesome pain killers do NOT read any emails and especially do NOT respond to them!
  4. Eeeveryone wants to know how to become a cache reviewer. No one ever asks, "How do you become a forum moderator?" Thanks for illustrating why, Vinnie.
  5. At the bottom of every email you receive through Geocaching.com is the note, "Forward abuse complaints to: contact@geocaching.com." Feel free to do that if you need to. As a cache owner, you have the right to delete any logs that, "appear to be bogus, counterfeit, off topic, or not within the stated requirements." And again, the contact@ email address is always available. That's about all you need to know. I'm closing this thread. Bret
  6. Please use the AVATAR TESTING and INSTRUCTIONS thread located conveniently at the top of the "Getting Started" forum to test your avatar, signature line, or to simply test your mad posting skillz. Closing this thread. Bret
  7. Last June I did the same thing with Edgar County 4H. I'm pretty sure I used the same GPS's you got too. It was a lot of fun but, UGH....those kids! It was nice when June was over.
  8. Those are some excellent points. Very well said. I've always said, "Don't just count your finds, make your finds count." It's all about the experience. Anyone can find a lamp post. What matters to me is the friends I've found, the places I've been, the experiences I've shared with people I have met and people I have yet to meet. God help me if the last thought on my death bed is, "Man, I sure found a lot of caches!" But if I'm thinking about the moments I shared with my friends and family, then that will be enough. On the other hand, if my last thought is, "I thought that guard rail looked loose!!! IIIEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"...well...that'll suck.
  9. Yah for CyBret, hero of turtles everywhere (or at least one turtle in a flooded area of Indiana)! Nice video--scary though. Hope it settles down soon. Unfortunately that was the ONE I was able to save....you don't want to see the picture of the one I was too late for. And then there was the one that was big enough to take care of himself!
  10. If you were driving home through Brazil you were more than just over the line, you were almost up to me. Should have come on up and howdy friend. :-) They announced on the news that Interstate 70 will be closed into next wek because of the flood. This is the first time since it was built that water has forced it to close, and this time the water was four feet deep over the highway. That stretch of road is about twenty feet above ground level so that was some deep water, and it washed part of the road away so it has to be rebuilt and repaved before it can reopen. So US 40 will be packed solid until it does reopen, hope I don't need to head west for any reason. And I hope I don't need to head that far east! The only reason I made it to Brazil is that 41 was closed for construction and 36 was closed because powerlines were down. I decided it would be safer to head to Brazil than try the backroads. Everything was fine westbound until I hit the edge of Terre Haute...where they were getting people off the interstate. That slowed down to a crawl.
  11. I shot this video just over the line in IndiANNER today. Not too far from a couple caches.
  12. Great suggestion from hydnsek. There's no need to re-invent the wheel when we've got such a great catalog of usernames and stories already available. Please post in the previously cited thread. I'm closing this one. Bret
  13. They exist but they are limited in their verbal skills. Come over to the Indiana Geocachers Hello thread at the top if you want to chat... That's right, Rick. Scare off the new guy. Sheesh Unfortunately, LEGS hasn't been active for a couple years now. There are some cachers around you, though. The Mt. Vernon area has a lot of really nice cachers. They keep reminding me that I need to come down and play sometime. Bret
  14. Yep..especially when you come to MOOOOONSHINEEEEE!!!! Looking forward to seeing you there. :-) Bret
  15. Moonshine better still be free though!
  16. Hey, no argument here. I love them and have had a lot of fun using them. I know what they're capable of and feel safer carrying them. We've had a few caching trips where cellphone coverage was so bad that we had to use the radios. We've also been to a few events where it's just plain fun to keep track of each other on the radios. Moonshine comes to mind...for some reason. ;-) Enjoy! Bret
  17. Where else? EBAY. Keep an eye on the clearance aisle at your local Wal-place. They will often have them dropped down pretty low. I've also seen them in the Clearance aisle at Staples. And keep in mind, no matter what the packaging says, your range isn't going to be as good as they advertise. I'm in flat ol' IlliNOISE and I've never been able to do better than 3 miles and that was in near perfect conditions.
  18. It bothers me that I seem to have the same expression on my face as the goat.
  19. If you read on down in the thread you'll notice a link to the Geocaching FAQ and this statement: I keep a set of Motorolas with me in my backpack. Along with the FRS/GMRS radio function they also have weather radios built in. I really like having that feature considering how unpredictable the weather can be at times.
  20. Silly Hoosiers! All mushrooms are edible..... once
  21. Hey...that looks familiar. Thanks for posting it. I met a cacher a few weeks ago who has a heart condition and realizes there's potential danger for him each time he goes after a cache. He laminated the placard and writes the cache coordinates on it with a dry erase marker. There are some things that are a little more important than your car. I had a couple cachers volunteer to translate the placard into French and German and those should be available soon.....after I've recovered from Woodstock.
