Anyone else having problems clicking "Send to My GPS"? I can manually save a GPX file to my Dakota 10 from the button on the cache page, but "Send to My GPS" comes back with the Garmin Communicator error. The Communicator site says I have current version. It may have happened when I went to Win 8.1 from 8.0 awhile back.

FTF Being Claimed Before Cache is Published
Sharks-N-Beans replied to Dogmeat*'s topic in General geocaching topics
Some good thoughts here. we don't put a lot of value on FTF, but respect the local FTF community. I think we would take the kids (they're teens now, so this is hypothetical) back after publication and let them seek on their own knowing it would be a high percentage opportunity for us to run into some local cachers. -
Integral part of finding a cache or ALR?
Sharks-N-Beans replied to TopShelfRob's topic in General geocaching topics
I do not believe I have seen an example in this thread where a found log should be deleted if the physical log is signed. If the finder admitted to destroying a cache on purpose, account should be locked. -
A Special Surprise Cache in Turkey - Ankara

Omaggo, That is one of the best stories I have read in these forums. Thanks so much for sharing. -
I see those listed as regulars all the time.

What makes a memorable cache?
Sharks-N-Beans replied to Matt Tracker 1's topic in General geocaching topics
That explains a lot, Cezanne. I never understood why you had such strong opinions on some subjects, containers in particular. We will have to agree to disagree as I feel the container is the foundation of Geocaching. I do not quite understand the part of your quote that I made bold. -

New souvenir: "The Maker Event"
Sharks-N-Beans replied to Pup Patrol's topic in General geocaching topics
I see a monthly trend going on. If you blink, it's too late, but a new theme may be right around the corner. I see a few Maker events in the area that are organized by COs that I'm sure will hold a great event. I too am a planner. I spent February making a great I <3 GC in my head knowing that I would never get around to getting it done. Just think of it as a lightning round thing for which some of us are not well suited. -
What makes a memorable cache?
Sharks-N-Beans replied to Matt Tracker 1's topic in General geocaching topics
Really? A great location is more likely to make me forget the mundane cache I found there. I'll remember the journey, sure, but the title asks what makes a memorable cache, not what makes a memorable journey. A cache includes many things such as the cache container, cache log, cache location and cache listing, to name a few. If we're talking container, there is already a long thread on that subject complete with pictures. -
What makes a memorable cache?
Sharks-N-Beans replied to Matt Tracker 1's topic in General geocaching topics
Hmmm... 1) Sharks first climb up an old telephone pole 2) Getting somewhat lost on a West Virginia mountain 3) Shark falling from a tree 4) First puzzle box to get to the log at midnight 5} Meeting Smiling Harry 6) Beans sliding down a wet creak bank at night 7) Pondering crossing a creek at night in December in skivvies to keep clothes dry ...it's not just one thing. Looking at my list, I think location is top of the list, but it takes a bit of everything. -
Definitely hide what you like to find (solve). I will click on the occasional 3D, but decoding and math are not what bring me to Geocaching. I do it to break away from desk work.

Bringing attention to a potential problem
Sharks-N-Beans replied to J Grouchy's topic in General geocaching topics
I do ]not understand this. Anyone who posts a NA should have come to the following conclusion: 'I think this cache should be archived if issue X can not be rendered resolved by the reviewer". Is it really any more complicated than this? Its really simple. The goal is to get issue x fixed. Not a bot like instant achival. Instant archival does not exist. It sure does. How so? -

How the heck do you find a cache every 90 seconds
Sharks-N-Beans replied to The Comrade's topic in General geocaching topics
We're in the same boat, although I think we found 20 one day in West Virginia. They were cool caches too. I think that is why folks like us have difficulty understanding how finding 960 is Geocaching. However, for those that do power trails, it is Geocaching. I liken it to religion. You won't understand until you know. -

But the comments in the log are otherwise objectionable to any other person or entity - which is included in and covered by the TOU. You see why I'm confused? This imaginary log that's upset me - an unwarranted personal attack posted as a note on a cache page for example - I now have to decide if it's just rude - which isn't worth reporting because it won't be acted on or whether it's otherwise objectionable to any other person or entity - which should be acted on as that's included in the TOU. Maybe if you provide another person or entity who finds it objectionable, you would have a stronger case.

I would be interested in knowing the purpose of your experiment. It sounds to me like you are trying to create a unique event cache that doesn't appear to offer anything to the attendees.

Jasmer Challenger - who started?

And, conversely, hearing that I knew something that briansnat did not makes me feel awesome. I asked, back in 2011, when I would stop being a noob. Today, I proclaim myself a non-noob! -

There sure seems to be much ado about various aspects of this cache. Security: The first seems to be that a cacher could notify security by performing certain actions. I believe this to be true whenever an area is monitored by security, and there is evidence that it has happened throughout the life of this cache. If I were performing an activity that I thought was illegal and security would not tolerate, I would be concerned. But they are aware and have not requested it to be shut down. Permission: Hotel management comes and goes. I'm OK going with the assumption that the cache had permission at inception since it has had 13 years of activity to vet the issue. I can even accept security as an extension of management and therefore rely on this early engagement as evidence that it's no big deal Vacation Cache: The maintenance plan is well documented from inception to present. Deleted note: C'mon man. If I had a note claiming the sky was falling for reasons that had already been vetted over 13 years on my page, I might just delete it also. -
You did the right thing. I would feel like an idiot if I walked right onto the property, had a confrontation and later read on the cache page "Our first hide, not sure about the cords, but the cache is not on the private property. It's near the creek on the other side of the fence".

I just do not see the need to reward volume beyond the satisfaction that some COs get from hiding volume.

I wonder if a premium member gifting somehow triggers a false negative on the following: Premium member (purchaser) is not subscribing for the first time even though the designated member has not been a premium member before.
