  1. Haven't cached enough to run into this issue. We load a PQ area into both Garmins. The Nuvi only loads GC number and coords and the Dakota has the full load. Once we make a find, we delete from the Nuvi and log as found on the Dakota. If we do a PQ that includes a cache already loaded, will it create a second one on the Garmin, overwrite or ignore the updated data?
  2. Our idea of a 5T is Everest or any terain that would SURELY kill us because we ave not trained, requires intensive planning and most likely a multi day trek. A 1T is wheelchair. So our son took some flack because he rated his 8ft climb up a tree (first step only 3 ft) a 2T. Some said it should be a 3. That's over half way to Everest!
  3. There are a lot of ways to Geocache and each cacher has their preferred ways to cache. If you read through the past logs for the series you'll find cachers who had an absolute blast doing the series and are very grateful for the experience. It's not for you, obviously, but many people really enjoy the time in the quiet and beauty of the desert. Thanks for the pics. Worth a thousand. We were imagining something very different w/ muggles watching our every move and maybe even some anti-geocaching protesters . The drive does look fun, but we would probably grab every mile or two.
  4. You are confused - traveling cache aren't being published, haven't been for 8 years. The purpose of this thread is to identify caches to exclude from statistics and souvenirs, usually because the posted coordinates on the cache page aren't close to where/what a cacher logged them. Most of the caches on that list are from 2003 or earlier. Thanks. Originally thought that was the case, but a couple on the list have hidden dates of 2010 (GC59EF) and 2011 (GCD33F). Looking closer, they have logs prior to that. Our bad.
  5. This series doesn't sound like much fun. We would feel like lab rats caching in town after town of muggles who are aware of what we were doing. The whole purpose (as we see it) of geocaching would be missing. We just don't get it.
  6. We're relatively new to this sport w/ just a couple hundred finds. Think we received 10 fav votes for past finds when we became premium members and have given about that many out leaving about 10 in hand. It just seems that every 10 or so has some redeeming quality that sets it apart. We faved one for it's simplicity. It was a great hollow tree with many sub-tunnels and the placement of the container was perfect yet simple. Probably the only fav it will get, but it was our favorite during that span of a week or two. If we only had 2 favs to give (using the 1 per 100 plan), we probably would never use for fear of not having any when the next great cache was discovered. The idea here is that volume and time combined with diverse opinion will produce a representative sampling of what we like.
  7. We're a little confused. If Traveling Caches are against the guidelines, why do they continue to be published?
  8. We do about 90% of our caching at night. AAs can't handle that much continued use. We use cheap lights w/ 2 Ds for general light at night and keep a AA maglight in the caching bag for brighter needs like looking into rock crevaces etc during daylight caching. That's our 2 cents.
