  1. Ok, I read the tutorial and figured out what I was missing. Thanks for all the help. Now, I just have to get to Arizona. Right now I am freezing down in Gulf Shores, Al. Can't wait to get out of here. Ray
  2. I am just a little confused but I will figure this out with all your help. I opened MapSource and it found the Arizona Topo map that I downloaded. When I open the Arizona map it shows all the roads and streets but how do I get the topo feature of the map?
  3. Thanks everyone, I went out to that site and registered and downloade a topo map for Arizona. I already had MapSource loaded and it brings up the map. So now, I need a little help in how to use it from there. If anybody has the time and wants to give me some instructions, I'd be greatly appreciative. Thanks again all, Ray
  4. Hi and thanks. Yeah, I get carried away reading this stuff and forget to look at when the last post was. After posting I did check and saw how old it was so now I feel stupid. Oh well..................... Nobody ever said old age was fun. Ray
  5. Hi Ken, I also have a CSx and I just went to geocaching.com and did a lookup and sent it directly to my GPS so yes it does do it without any extra programs. But if you want to do a pocket query and find a bunch of caches then it will send the query to your email as a zip file. You then transfer that to your unit. I have converted my Nuvi 350 car navigation gps to a handheld so I can use it for geocaching also. Works great. There is a whole thread on how to do it here somewhere. Good luck with your new unit. Ray
  6. Hello all, I have a Map60CSx and love it. But it didn't come with any maps. Is there a way to get some maps for it without having to buy them? If I have to I will but it might be nice to have at least the City Streets for North America or trail maps for geocaching. Am I asking for too much? Thanks for any help. This forum is great. Ray
  7. Thanks for your help. I went to the Garmin WebUpdater and did an update to whatever had changed since the last update and it seems to have solved the problem. At least I can now use my stubby finger to touch the letters and they respond correctly. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all you have done on this thread and also for your fast response to questions. Please keep doing what you have been doing. We all thank you. Ray
  8. I'm hoping someone can answer this for me. I did the software change in this thread so I could use my Garmin Nuvi 350 for geocaching and as a hand held GPS. All went well but I have encountered one problem. I didn't do a search for this because I didn't know how to word my search. My problem is now when I want to enter info in order to use it for roadmapping and driving instructions, the alphabet screens don't type out what you are touching. For example, when I want an "A" it comes out "B" unless I touch the screen in the extreme upper left corner of the "A" square. It seems to be worse on the left side of the screen or around the edges. It is maddening. I tried a 6 times to spell out "GRASS" and couldn't get past the "GRA". It kept trying to take me to "GRB" which of course doesn't exist. I have to use something very pointy like the tip of a ballpoint pen and even that is very touchy. Has anybody else had this happen? Is there a way to reset my unit back to factory specs? Thanks for any help or suggestions, Ray
  9. Thanks Pilot, that did the trick. This thread is 16 pages long and I didn't re-read all 16 pages so I guess I missed the new file name somewhere. All is well now. Thanks for your help. I posted on here a long while back thanking you for all your hard work on this project. It works great. I also have a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx. Will this work with my other unit? Sure love to try it. Thanks again, Ray
  10. Attn: Pilotsnipes, I have used your program once or twice with great success but now I am having a problem. I have deleted the custom POI's from my Nuvi 350 and did a query for 20 new caches from Geocaching.com. I go through all the steps to load the new POI's into my Nuvi but I keep getting the ones that I had just deleted. They keep coming back. I can't get rid of them. I even uninstalled the GSAK program and reinstalled it. Still the same thing. What am I doing wrong? Anyone out there, please help me out here. I have some newbie geocachers waiting on me. Now I look like a newbie too. I will be waiting hopefully for your help. Thanks, Ray
  11. Thanks MMC Mama. I knew that I had read it somewhere and now it comes back to me after your reply. Thanks again, Ray
  12. As I stated above, all is well and works like a champ. Now, as we have moved to a different location, I would like to delete the custom POI's from my Nuvi 350. Is there a quick way to do this or do I have to delete each one individually? In the favorites screen there is an edit and delete option but not in the custom POI section. Maybe I missed something in one of the ten pages of posts. I really didn't want to have to go back and re-read all of them. Please help me out with this as there are a ton of them to delete. Thanks, Ray
  13. I guess that's why Baskin Robbins has done so well. Ray
  14. I just got mine yesterday. You are going to love it. It is so easy to use and it's beautiful. Ray
  15. Well, this is to update your comment. First let me thank you for taking the time to warn me. Now let me say, after having both units in my possession and trying both outdoors there is no comparison. The GPSMAP 60CSx is by the better unit. Hands down bigger, brighter and much easier to use. The buttons are where they should be and work similar to my old Magellan GPS315 that I just got through resurrecting. I am very happy that I made the decision to exchange the units. Actually, now I have three usable GPSr's. I have been using a Nuvi 350 for navigating and after reading the thread on how to use it for geocaching, I downloaded and installed all the necessary programs to send data to my Nuvi. It works fantastic. All the notes and directions are stored in it so no more printing for me. I am a very happy camper and now all I have to do is learn all about the three units. Tomorrow we go out into the field and find some stuff. Thanks to all for your help. Ray
  16. My profound thanks to PilotSnipes. I had some problems with the GSAK program but after working through that the rest was a snap. Tomorrow I will start finding some of the five hundred caches that are now loaded into my Nuvi 350. I can't wait to try it. Thank you so much for all your hard work and I look forward to the next discovery you come up with. Ray
  17. I have been trying to install GSAK and after about six times of installing, uninstalling, and re-downloading it still freezes at the splash screen. I have tried everything I can think of including stopping my antivirus and firewall programs. I am running XP Home with SP3 installed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ray
  18. Thank all of you so very much for your help. Now I must add that after messing around with the Vista I decided that the screen print was too small for my old eyes so I called the vendor and got permission to send it back and I ordered a GPSmap 60csx instead. I assume that the advice that you all gave me will also work with the new GPSr. We are going to become premium member so we will have the full use of Geocaching.com. If any of you have any more to add please do. I am all ears. Er eyes. Thanks, Ray
  19. Well everybody, here is an update on my dilemma. I was about to put the old GPS to sleep in the trash can when out of nowhere I had a brainstorm. How about doing a reinstall of the firmware. Well, it worked. In fact, it now works better than it ever has. We went out today and did a little geocaching. We didn't have any luck but I attribute that to the not knowing what the heck I was doing. I still don't understand what all the stuff is as far as using the thing. I wish there was a tutorial that would explain it all but I haven't found one yet. If anybody has any advice please send it my way. Thanks to all who tried to help me. Ray
  20. Hello all. My wife and I just bought a Garmin eTrex Vista HCx and after reading the manual that came with it, I must say that I am as confused as can be. I think I understand some of the lingo but I was wondering how do I go about loading the geocache info into the GPS? Do I have to enter it all manually or is there a way to download it from the Geocaching.com site directly to the GPS? Thanks for your help, Ray.
  21. Well, I took it outside tonight while we all sat around the campfire. It sat out there for about two and a half hours. It never left the status screen. It saw ten to twelve satellites and I could watch them move in and out of the screen. No signal strength though. I manually switched it to the position screen and the info there was exactly the way I had entered it. The only thing that changes is the clock. It seems to be keeping correct time. I can't imagine what could have happened to this thing. It worked ok then it didn't. I have tried clearing the memory and reinitializing it but to no avail. Help. Ray
  22. I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I used my GPS while living in Cal. but now we are full time RVers and are currently in S.D. I can't get my unit to initialize. It is seeing all the satellites but won't display signal strength. It is supposed to go to the position screen automatically after initializing but it never does. I have tried entering the lon/lat manually but that didn't do any good either. In the manual it says something about the need to re-initialize if moving more than three hundred miles with the unit turned off. We I have done that about a dozen times and still no go. I tried emailing Magellan but that was a waste of my time. Magellan sucks. Should I throw this thing as far as I can or is there something that I am missing? Please, someone must know the answer. When it worked in So. Cal. it worked just fine. I am really at a loss as to what could have happened. By the way, the batteries are brand new lithium so that isn't the problem. Thanks to all who try to help me out. Ray
  23. As usual, after posting the question, I have found the answer. Please excuse me for the dumb post. At this point disregard the question and move on to the next post. Thanks for your patience, Ray.
  24. Help, newbie alert. I am trying to find where in the geocaching.com site to do a pocket query. I have downloaded all the necessary programs to start paperless caching and have purchased a pda from ebay and now want to start loading it. I am now a premium member but I can't find where to do a pocket query. Maybe it's brain cramp from oldage but what am I missing? Please help. Thanks, Ray.
  25. When you say pda what exactly do you mean? Are you talking about something like the Garmin ique? I know that they can be had on ebay pretty cheap. I would like to have an excuse to buy one and have a second gps.
